Islamic Republic of Iran threatens prosecution of children dancing at an amusement park

“Manifestations of corruption have always been dealt with, and this case will be too,” said Kamran Mirhaji, the provincial prosecutor.

His use of the word “corruption” is ominous. “The only reward for those who make war upon Allah and his messenger and struggle to sow corruption on earth will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be expelled from the land. Such will be their degradation in this world, and in the hereafter, theirs will be an awful doom.” (Qur’an 5:33)

The Ayatollah Khomeini said it: “Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.”

In a country where joy itself has become an act of defiance, even children’s laughter at an amusement park can trigger a government manhunt.

What began as innocent entertainment during a religious celebration has transformed into the latest battleground between Iranian authorities determined to crush public happiness and citizens desperate for moments of normalcy amid crushing economic hardship and the specter of war.

The crime that has mobilized prosecutors and municipal officials across Fars Province? A young woman and several children dancing to Bollywood music last week at Bagh-e-Jannat amusement park in Shiraz, surrounded by cheering mothers.

Within 48 hours, the 38-second video had ignited a familiar cycle of state outrage. Government supporters flooded social media with denunciations of “vulgarity” and “desecration.”

Revolutionary prosecutors vowed punishment. Municipal officials scrambled to assign blame. The machinery of repression lurched into motion over what anywhere else would be considered childhood innocence.

“Manifestations of corruption have always been dealt with, and this case will be too,” Kamran Mirhaji, the provincial prosecutor, declared to the Tasnim news agency, treating giggling children as threats to the Islamic Republic.

The crackdown reflects the Islamic Republic’s longstanding hostility toward public displays of joy, particularly those involving women and children….

  4. In that oppressive Islamic regime of Iran there’s no room amusements or dancing nor festive activities, music, happiness fun or humor in Islam.

    For example, Ayatollah Khomeini had declared “The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There can be no…joy in whatever is serious.” [1]

  5. Watching little kids enjoying themselves is one of the greatest joys in life. They should try it sometime and may find it more satisfying than beating up and/or killing non-believers. It’s hard to be malicious when you’re happy.

    • No. Regime change in Iran is solely up to the Iranians. And apparently, they’re far too cowardly to do what it takes to rid themselves of their oppressive government. Either that, or the majority of the population (despite highly unreliable poll data) is comfortable enough with the status quo. Regardless, not our problem (and if Israel continued bombing Iran, “regime change” would suck the US into getting directly involved).

      • Probably there are still too many Iranians who support the regime because it is an Islamic Republic and they are “good” muslims.
        I think the Christian “evangelists” are often misleading people by claiming Christianity is on the rise with millions of new converts. They have the same mindset as the Islamists with the thinking of more followers means the religion is the truth.

  9. At a church , I attended , one sunday ,there was a guest speaker who used to be a Muslim and a Hezbollah member , who is now a Christian and an American citizen. During his lecture, showed,on the screen, a picture of himself along with his entire family. That photograph was taken before id became a Christian and escaped Iran.

    In the photo neither him or anyone in his family was smiling. The speaker then said sarcastically “See how happy we all are. ? Then he added that is because there is no happiness or joy in Islam.”

    Can’t wait to see the islamic comics make fun of their too strict priests.

    And their actors make speeches about the value of joy.

    And their artists paint murals showing people enjoying themselves.
