From 9/11 to Today: Why the West No Longer Sees Islam as Harmless

The term Islamophobia is often heard these days. It was coined by Muslims themselves, especially those who identify as liberal. By it they mean an irrational and extreme fear of Islam in Western societies. Many Muslims argue that this fear is the result of Jewish propaganda against them, once again framing it as a “Jewish conspiracy,” something they have made a habit of doing.

To counter the charge that Islam is a religion of terrorism and violence, Muslims frequently point to examples of relatively peaceful countries, particularly secular states like Albania and Malaysia. But they deliberately ignore the Taliban, who until recently ruled Afghanistan and treated the Afghan people worse than animals, and who are once again resurgent.

They also remain silent about other regimes similar to the Taliban. Even if these governments are not as thorough in enforcing Islamic law, the Taliban are seen as practicing a “pure and uncorrupted” version of Islam. Yet countries like Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Somalia’s Islamic courts are not far behind. In Afghanistan, women are banned from schools and jobs; in Iran, they are beaten or jailed for removing the hijab; in Somalia, most girls undergo forced genital mutilation; and in Sudan, women have long faced flogging and arrests for “indecent dress. In Pakistan, some of the worst abuses carried out in the name of Islam include the use of blasphemy laws to persecute innocent Christians, targeted attacks on religious minorities, suicide bombings by jihadis groups, and forced conversions, honor killings of women.

In reality, Islamophobia is itself an Islamic propaganda tool, not a Jewish conspiracy as Muslims claim. What the West calls Islamophobia is actually an awakening to the threat that Islam poses in developed societies.

Before 9/11, the West regarded Islam as just another monotheistic religion. Some likened it to a harsher European version of Christianity; others assumed Muslims were harmless idol worshippers. Most people, however, knew little about Islam and paid it no real attention. Life went on as usual. The West was, in effect, asleep. Britain, in the name of human rights, democracy, and personal freedom, even gave asylum to known Jihadis such as Abu Hamza al-Masri and Saudi Arabia’s prominent Takfiri Mullah Saad al-Faqih, who opposed the existing Saudi system not because it was too harsh, but because he wanted an even stricter application of Islamic law.

The 9/11 attacks delivered a brutal shock to both East and West. Thousands of innocent American deaths forced them to wake up. What was most striking was that many Muslims celebrated. They took to the streets dancing, handing out sweets. In Palestine and Pakistan, people openly rejoiced over the attacks. Even in my own city, I saw Muslims celebrating the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers and heard them calling it a “victory for Islam.”

From that moment, the West’s relationship with Islam changed. People rushed to buy Qurans to learn what this religion really taught. Media outlets began producing reports to raise awareness of Islamic teachings such as beheading, amputations, flogging, the abuse of women, and other forms of brutality in the name of Islam.

 The message was clear: so where is the irrational fear in all this?

In 2005 The furious response of Muslims to the Muhammad cartoons only added fuel to the fire. (Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten) It drove home to the West the seriousness of the danger posed by Islam. As the West came to see its values of freedom, equality, and liberalism threatened by an Islamic monster, even Islam’s defenders began to fear for their own survival. The last fig leaf covering their shame had slipped away, leaving them to accuse the West of “unnecessary fear” of Islam.

For the foreseeable future, perhaps even the next hundred years, Islam will remain humanity’s greatest threat. Most Muslims are educationally and intellectually unprepared for the modern world. This is largely because in many Islamic countries, the education system is controlled by jihadis who use it to brainwash children and pass their poison on to the next generation.

It is imperative that Westerners stop regarding Islam as a religion and call Islam out for what it truly is, a Political and Military Ideology that calls for world conquest that includes religion, which is used as a Shield to conceal Islam’s Militaristic Ambitions while exploiting Freedom of Religion in the West to advance its agenda stealthily.
    Those who value their Freedom in the West must learn that Muslims have perfected a system for taking over a country, which I will abbreviate as Immigrate, Segregate, Populate, Dominate, Replace.
    This System is in full sway in the Western World, particularly in Western Europe and Scandinavia, but also Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the USA.
    New York City is in danger of electing a Muslim Mayor who is pretending to be a Democratic Socialist, so people are fooled into thinking they are electing a Socialist and not a Jihadist.
    The Muslim Brotherhood is funding many Muslim political candidates for local office throughout the USA.
    Hamtramck, Michigan, has an all-Muslim City Council.
    Dearborn, Michigan, may soon no longer resemble an American city.
    Minneapolis, Minnesota, is now referred to as “Little Somalia”.

    Too many in the West still see islime as harmless and want to shield muzzies from rightful criticism.
    I don’t believe, therefore, that the “West no longer sees” it as “harmless.”
    More people, especially those in political power and those who vote others into political power, need to see the Truth of it.

  4. A phobia is an IRRATIONAL fear of something. In the case of “Islamophobia,” the fear is very much rational. When the Muzzies are commanded to strike the necks of the unbelievers, taking them at their word, as evidenced by the Muzzie terrorists doing just that, proves the case that “Islamophobia” is not a phobia at all, but rather a legitimate, rational fear, where any non-Muslim would not want to be around these savages.

    • that’s why the term “Islaminformed” can be used with confidence from now on to counter the accusation of Islamophobia. The more these new words are used, the more they will serve to discredit those who are Islamuninformed.but who find themselves standing ignorantly with orthodox Jihadists.
      Of course, those that use “Islaminformed” must be accurate in what they are saying even if it is just a single fact – just like Robert Spencer, David Wood and the plethora of others who have risked their lives in leading the charge. Now we can speak up to also inform and support without fear of being silenced with Islam’s made-up word.

It Is certainly a god thing the people of the West are waking up and no longer gullibly and naively being taken in the smokescreen spoken and printed by the apologists and propagandists for Islam with their lies and lines as “Those terrorists have hijacked the peaceful religion of Islam” and “Those terrorists have warped the non-violent religion of Islam.” Such lying cover-ups in order to hide the violent and deadly essence of Islam

    Nevertheless, there are yet not enough who have come to understand those jihadist mass- murder Islamic terror attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, had been actual Qu ‘ran based jihad terrorist attacks.

    Don’t let them fool you, the many apologists for Islam is will endeavor to set up a smokescreen to hide the reality of the truth about the violence and deadly essence of Islam by making the bogus claim that the al Qaeda operatives mass murderer on 9/11 were not real Muslims and that they were breaking the laws of the Qu ‘ran by their violence and deadly actions.” The apologists for Islam will further make the totally false claim that “Those terrorists on 9/11 were only criminals who hijacked the peaceful religion of Islam for politics.”

    Those outrageously false claims are weak attempt of damage control for the image of Islam to the West. For the “holy book” of Islam the Qu ‘ran. For the Qu ‘ran instruct in Sura 9:111. Muslims who are engaging the jihad that “The believer’s fight in Allah’s Cause, they slay and are slain, they kill and are killed “That’s just what happened on September 11, 2001, the jihadists of al Qaeda “killed and were killed” in those 9/11 jihad attacks against both humankind and America. The Quran also teaches in Sura 9:123 to that jihad –minded Muslims behavior towards non-Muslims “let them find harshness in you…” Those Islamic attacks on 9/11 were indeed very “harsh.” As Sura 2:191 instructs “kill the disbeliever wherever you find them.” That’s a very strange kind of “peaceful religion” if there ever was one.

    Just to site one more out on many from the Qu ‘ran about the instruction of deadly violence is Sura 47:4. Which instructs “Whenever you encounter unbelievers strike off their heads until you make a great slaughter among them …” The terrible harsh reality is that using jet planes as missiles as those jihadist/ Muslims did of September 11, sure made a greater “slaughter among them” than sword can

    Many more Westerners still need to become aware and knowledgeable about the actual deadly nature of Islam before it’s too late.

    • Peaceful Malaysia ?
      In Malaysia, leaving Islam is punishable by caning, several years in jail and in some states even the death penalty.

      And in some states it has since August 2025 been punishable with up to several years imprisonment, for missing the Friday prayer at the mosque.

      What a peaceful place…

I read the article above and still don’t see how it answers the question in the title ‘ Why the West No Longer Sees Islam as Harmless. so I will answer that my own way…because many if not most are too willing to live ‘blind/blindly’ concerning this topic. They don’t want to take an effort and Learn a little in their lives,learn stuff other than of superficial matters. Also,many just want to ‘go along with the crowd’. Blind leading the blind.
    Just my first thoughts maybe impulsively typed and if the article Did in fact answer the question in the title,sorry.,guess i didn’t read it and soak in enough of what it said or quickly forget so my apologies to the writer.

    • I don’t believe you misread the article. It seems a little premature to me; not nearly enough people have taken note of the evils which exude from islime and its adherents.

      • True. I try to speak to people I know but Catholics in particular seem to have bought into the lies and are unwilling to accept what islam actually is. Maybe that’s only my experience.

        I read someone’s ID for Mamdani and liked it; Islamunist.

        Also just watched another video of a muslim male brutally attacking a female family member as the women just looked on. Just another way muslims are unprepared for the modern world, so the modern world had better prepare for them.

          I’m not for throwing mud at anyone, but I believe it imperative for all Bible-believing Christians to be ready to speak the truth in love. Islam has no teaching comparable to Paul’s stricture that, as much as it is up to us, we whould live at peace with all men. Instead, Islam openly and avowedly ebraces violent warfare.

  10. There is no freedom in islam. Idiots.

    It’s common to experience a sudden thought that makes no logical sense yet triggers intense anxiety or fear. These are often irrational thoughts / ideas or mental images that aren’t based on reason evidence or logic.

    Fortunately for the left there are support groups and medications that can help manage distorted reality syndrome.

For what it’s worth, I’ve noticed that when I attack Islam on other websites, such as the FoxNews online comments section, 10 years ago, I’d usually get 4 or 5 commenters pushing back, trying to make the imaginary distinction between Islam, The Religion of Peace, and “Radical” Islam. Calling me a racist/bigot/Islamophobe. But, at least on FoxNews, I’m not getting that pushback anymore. In fact, I get a lot of “thumbs ups” and supporting comments attacking Islam just as aggressively as I. I’m not seeing many people defend any Muslims anymore.

    Of course, I’m sure I’d still get pushback on some of the Leftist websites. But I don’t waste a lot of time on Dims and their Leftist garbage. I’ve written Dims/Leftists off as mentally ill and incorrigible. My main objective for now is waking the Right up to the threat. Then, we can ALL en masse work on the Left.

    I think what’s missing now in the public sphere is two feature length movies, because it’s much easier to get someone to watch a movie than to spend time reading a book:

    1. Sira
    I’ve looked all over the Internet and noticed there are no honest movies about Muhammad. Only 3 or 4 exist – they are low quality and pro-Muhammad. They honor and respect him, and don’t even show his face with an image or an actor. And of course they white-wash him and make him look benevolent.

    What we need is for someone to convert the Sira into a 120-page (2-hour) screenplay. No embellishing or dramatic ‘liberties’ are necessary. The authentic Sira is horrifying enough as is. In fact, the screenplay should strive to stay as close to the actual Sira as possible, the objective being to show what a diabolical monster Muhammad truly was, unworthy of the title “The Perfect Man,” and unworthy of emulation.

    2. A Plan for Kufara Victory in the Global Islamic War
    We need a 2-hour movie that spends the first hour summarizing Islam’s motive, mission, and methods. We must articulate the stakes in this zero-sum existential war, using interesting video, facts, and graphics. Then, spend the second half of the movie articulating how to win this war, by getting to Islam Zero (0% global Islam), which by Islamic doctrine/law is the ONLY objective that will end this now 1403-year war.

      I tried to counter a seminar in a Congregational church that was Islam light. For questioning the acuracy of the seminar, I was acquested of “Islamic HATE.”
      There is a Video by Peter Hammond, titled “The End of Islam.” I do not know if it is still available, but Peter Hammond’s book, Slavery, Terrorism, and Islam is woth reading if anyone does not understand the history of Islam.

  12. Anybody w/ half a brain would never have seen islam as harmless after 9/11. Only absolute cretins would have believed the likes of Bush 43, Tony Blair, Jacques Chiraq, Gerhard Schroder, Shimon Peres and all the rest

    I just wish there was a way of bombing Qatar into oblivion, so that they were no longer in a position to do squat!!

    • Bush 43 had a chance to step up and be a leader but instead he stood in front of the world and declared islam peaceful. He could have been a leader and began the process of trying to initiate change. Instead, he wilted like a piece of lettuce, he chose cowardice. He really is a disgrace to civilized men and women.

        • Thankfully, I wasn’t naturalized at the time, so didn’t have the vote. I supported both the wars ie the war phases, but was absolutely opposed to the nation-building that followed. What we have today is a Taliban w/ an Afghanistan richer than when they first lost it, and an Iraq which is almost a client state of Iran

Just as other commenters have said, I hope even the slowest learners will soon wake up to Islam’s evil nature.the gold standard in treating Islam and it’s barbaric followers the way it should be treated are Hungary, Poland and the Czech republic. If people in those countries can see Islam’s nature so clearly then people from all our countries should be able to do the same. Letting Muslims invade our countries is the dumbest policy of all time.

  14. In my point of view, Muslims don’t care at all whether Islamophobia is a rational fear or not. Knowing whether or not this is a rational fear is a typically Western question: is it true or not, is it right or not? Why is someone telling me that?
    What Muslims are interested in is more simple : it is a question of being able to insult us, in the hope of discrediting us, and to have us ask ourselves questions to understand what is happening instead of reacting.
    They insult us because they can’t deceive. And by insulting us, they draw attention to us, allowing them to conceal their malice and their intentions of domination.

    And to answer the title of the article: in my country, the people have been duped because they have completely forgotten Christian teachings.

    Fighting is prescribed for you” (Koran 2:216); (2) “Slay them wherever you find them” (Koran 4:89); (3) 9:36); “Fight the idolators utterly” (Koran and such hadiths as the one related by Bukhari and Muslim that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: “I have been commanded to fight people until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, ”

    Islam is not here in our nation as a religious entity, it is here to conquer the nation much like in the UK, France and Germany. Islam can conquer by population growth, demands that schools adhere to sharia for Muslim students, demanding Islamic holidays and so forth.

    Follow the pattern in which they operate, read the book Reliance of the Traveller, it can be read on line.

    Educate yourself, knowledge is the key to protect our nation from Islamic conquest.

  20. Next week is September 11th. While remembering those slaughtered by Islam let us also
    remember a previous September 11 – 12, in1683, The Battle of Vienna.

    I believe September 11 was chosen by the Islamic hijackers as payback for Islam’s
    humiliation at Vienna on that date.
    Islam was stopped from invading Europe by the Viennese and the Polish troops under
    Jan Sobieski.

    Islam attacking and invading the West has a long history that needs to be remembered.
    It predates the existence of the United States and the modern state of Israel.
    Let us go forward in the spirit of those that fought to defeat Islam.
