Anyone may have done this, especially in the present anti-Christian environment and rising violence. One possibility is that it is the work of people who believe that the cross is an insult to the power of Allah, and that ” they did not kill him nor crucify him, but it seemed so to them” (Qur’an 4:157).
“‘The perpetrators would do well to arm themselves’… A three-century-old Pyrenean symbol destroyed with a sledgehammer,” translated from “‘Leurs auteurs auront intérêt à s’armer’… Un symbole pyrénéen vieux de trois siècles détruit à la masse,” by Jean-François Ferré, La Dépêche, September 15, 2025 (thanks to Medforth):
The cross on the Col de la Crouzette (photo), an ancient monument between the Bethmale and Eychelles valleys, was destroyed again over the weekend of August 15, 2025. It was smashed on site, presumably with a sledgehammer. An incomprehensible act that has outraged shepherds and hikers. Beyond its topographical function, the cross had a strong symbolic meaning and was a witness to a heritage passed down from generation to generation.
For twenty-five years, the cross on the Col de la Crouzette, also known as Portet d’Eychelles, has been the target of several acts of vandalism. This stone cross, erected at the crossroads of the Eychelles valley and the summer pastures of Haute Serre in the commune of Bethmale, long marked the transition between the valleys of Bethmale, Soueix,
In 2001, the original cross was stolen. Two years later, a new cross, carved from stone quarried below the Col de la Core on the Seix side, was erected in the same place.
The work is by Thierry Galey, a resident of Samortein-en-Bethmale and a draughtsman in the aeronautical industry in Toulouse. In 2004, this new cross was blessed by Abbé Jean Fauroux, who was already known for blessing the cross on Mont Valier. At the time, the mayor of Bethmale was confident: “The perpetrators had better arm themselves with chisels and hammers to tear it down.”…

It appears from the article that the original cross was stolen and replacement carved out of the bedrock was arrested in 2001. So, this grass that was just destroyed was only 24 years old. But still!

muzzies….guessing they are the perps…..are so insecure in their belief in the false god that they must continually destroy things belonging to the religions of those whom they hate and oppose.
And if not muzzies….those who hate Christianity and Christians, are no different. Insecure bullies, all of them.

Why France didn’t take action against those who want to destroy our country our beliefs they have no respect those people should be arrested and ship them back home
James Lincoln says
Apparently, some people were “easily triggered” by that stone cross.

It’s ok.none of this is lost on God, he’s has a very long memory

How sad to destroy the work of our ancestors or the work of arts created for honor and joy. Only the insecure leaders of thugs destroy beautiful things to show their power over others. The stone cross is gone, you hurt my feelings but you didn’t destroy my love of God or my willingness to stand against you..
John Densler says
We do not know the identity of the individual(s) who destroyed the cross, but a reading of the Koran would explain why any Islamist would be encourage to destroy this Christian symbol.
