For awhile, it seemed as if Zohran Mamdani, a “Democratic Socialist” running for New York City mayor, could do no wrong. He brought a “fresh perspective” and “new ideas for how to solve the housing crisis, the rise in food prices, the cost of city transportation.” And of course he shared the extreme anti-Israel animus that the young in America and worldwide have been expressing with every greater malignancy, as they consign the Jewish state to the outer darkness. What’s not to like when a young Lochinvar out of East comes bearing such promises as rent control for all, nonprofit grocery stores, free bus service, and a foreign policy in keeping with the anti-Israel crowd — though why a candidate for New York City’s mayor should be expected to have a foreign policy is unclear.
For several months, Jewish voters, who tend to be on the political left, were impressed with Mamdani’s economic proposals, and appeared ready to overlook his history of anti-Israel activism that began when, as student at Bowdoin, he founded his college’s branch of Students for Justice in Palestine, and tried to force the Bowdoin College administration to adopt a policy of BDS — that is, to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction from all things Israeli. He’s been deeply involved in the “struggle to bring justice for the Palestinians,” wants a US. embargo on arms for Israel as a way to pressure the Jewish state to agree to the creation of a Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria and east Jerusalem, land that Israel won in the Six-Day War, and to which it lay claim not only as the victor in that war, but because of the 3,500-year history of Jews in that land, which gave Israel the claim that was further recognized by the League of Nations’ Mandate for Palestine. The result of such pressure, if Israel were to succumb, would leave Israel squeezed back within the 1949 armistice lines, stripped of its defenses in the Jordan Valley, and with a nine-mile-wide waist from Qalqilya to the sea, indefensible borders that would constitute an open invitation to an invasion force from the east.
It turns out that all those Jewish voters whom we were told were enthusiastic supporters of Mamdani have changed their minds. They have had several months to look into Mamdani’s long and unpleasant anti-Israel record, and now, instead of a majority of Jews in New York supporting Mamdani, three-quarters of Jews in the city are alarmed at his candidacy. A new Siena College poll shows Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani facing an overwhelming backlash from Jewish voters in New York City, with a staggering 75 percent holding an unfavorable opinion of the Queens Democrat and just 15 percent viewing him favorably.
The numbers mark Mamdani as one of the least popular figures among Jewish New Yorkers, undermining narratives that the progressive lawmaker enjoys substantial support from the Jewish community. His unfavorable rating among Jewish voters is more than 38 points higher than his standing with the general electorate, where 37 percent view him negatively compared to 28 percent favorably. A little-known politician before this year’s primary campaign, Mamdani is an outspoken supporter of the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate Israel from the international community as a step toward its eventual elimination. Mamdani also defended the phrase “globalize the intifada”— which references previous periods of sustained Palestinian terrorism against Jews and Israelis and has been widely interpreted as a call to expand political violence — by invoking the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising during World War II. In response, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum repudiated the mayoral candidate, calling his comments “outrageous and especially offensive to [Holocaust] survivors.”
In September, Robert Spencer’s new book on Zohran Mamdani, and on the parents from whom he inherited his deeply anti-Israel and anti-American views, will be out. I don’t think the boy wonder from Uganda, who identifies himself in a college application as both “Indian” and “African-American,” as a way to benefit from Affirmative Action, argues that the Nazis learned how to treat Jews from the way that Abraham Lincoln supposedly rounded up Native Americans and confined them to reservations — he did nothing of the sort, and refuses to criticize the chant “globalize the intifada,” which, rightly understood, is a call to kill Jews not just in Israel, but everywhere in the world.
Without that Jewish support, Mamdani is still predicted to win a plurality of the vote. If he becomes mayor, our only consolation is that he will undoubtedly make such a mess of the mayoralty that his performance will put a kibosh on similar candidates for years to come.

Mamdani does benefit from both his opposition being splintered, and the GOP being so weak in the city that even w/ a 3 way split, Curtis Sliwa has a snowball’s chance in hell. If Mamdani does get elected, the DOJ should keep an eagle eye on NYC and ding it whenever they violate federal law, be it about illegal aliens, DEI or any other issues legislated by the Federal government
