The mainstream media give us constantly updated stores about a “famine” that is always about to be “imminent” in Gaza. It publishes heartrending photos of children with suffering what appears to be starvation — skin-and-bone figures whom we are expected to believe are the victims of deliberate starvation by the IDF. That media relies both for those photos and for its claims about civilian deaths on the Gaza Health Ministry, which is merely a front group that disseminates false data for Hamas. But if the media seem fixated on stories of civilians being starved to death in Gaza, it has little time left over to tell the far more harrowing tales of actual mass starvation elsewhere in the world, especially in countries of sub-Saharan Africa, including the Sudan, Somalia, and Zimbabwe. The UN-affiliated Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has published a report claiming “mass famine” in Gaza. The announcement made instant headlines worldwide. But behind the drama was a quiet, extraordinary shift in methodology. Instead of the accepted global standards for measuring malnutrition, the IPC downgraded its criteria, relying on mid-arm circumference instead of weight-to-height and lowering the threshold for acute malnutrition from 30% to just 15%.
These drastic changes appeared only in a footnote. However, the global media treat them as hard facts, blasting headlines that Israel is responsible for “starving Gaza.” Amnesty International has gone even further, accusing Israel of running a “deliberate starvation project.”
The real question is not about the numbers themselves but about perspective. Why does Gaza dominate the global stage while large-scale famines – such as the one unfolding right now in Sudan – barely register? The answer: political humanitarianism.
According to that very same IPC report, nearly 24 million Sudanese face food insecurity. Over eight million are in emergency conditions, and tens of thousands are already in famine. Unlike the disputed Gaza numbers, these are facts that no one contests. Yet, Sudan earns almost no front-page coverage, no mass demonstrations in Western capitals, and no urgent debates in the UN.
Why? Because Hamas has perfected the art of weaponizing human suffering. It blocks aid, manipulates data, and circulates shocking images, all to increase international pressure on Israel. Western media, predisposed to highlight Israel’s faults, plays along.
Sudan’s generals, by contrast, are not running a global PR campaign. There are no glossy NGO videos, no Hollywood stars hugging starving children, no UN resolutions on endless repeat. Most of all, there is no link to Israel or the Jews. The result: Mass death in Sudan remains invisible.
In Sudan, 24 million people — about twelve times the total number of people in Gaza — are now enduring “food insecurity” that can easily become “starvation,” and then, if food aid does not arrive, could become a full-blown famine.
Yet this food crisis in Sudan gets almost no attention from the UN, or the EU, or the BBC, or CNN, or The Guardian, The New York Times, or The Washington Post. “Palestinianism” has become the latest cause on American campuses and on the streets of European cities. Millions of people in the Western world have demanded that “from the river to the sea/Palestine will be free,” which is a call for the destruction of Israel and its replacement by a 23rd Arab state, have called for “death to the IDF,” and urged that the world “globalize the Intifada,” which is a call not just for killing Israelis, but all Jews, everywhere. And the only “famine” that counts for that media is the one that is supposedly taking place in Gaza.
The mass deaths through starvation continue in Africa, with the highest number of victims in the Sudan — more than 24 million people, or half the country’s population — having been recorded, but then is passed over virtually in silence, while the false “famine” in Gaza is on the nightly news all over the world. There are several reasons for this. Hamas has adopted all the strategies and instruments of Western advertising: varying the message to fit the audience, constant repetition of certain themes, emotional appeals through the display of emaciated children, some of whom are emaciated not because they are being starved, but because they suffer from certain congenital illnesses, including Fanconi’s disease, rare forms of leukemia, and cerebral palsy, that give them the outward look of victims of starvation.
Meanwhile, there are no campaigns in Sudan to alert the world to the deliberate starvation of black Africans by Arabs. That’s the kind of information that our pro-Hamas and pro-Islamic media would not wish to help spread. Besides, Jews are not part of the story in the Sudan, and “Jews are news.” So there is no reason to offer sympathy to the starving Sudanese, when all our tears must be shed only for the people of Gaza.

Europe rewards terrorism by spewing its bilge about “the Palestinian nation”, all based on lies. However, they never demand Turkey withdraw from that part of Cyprus it conquered in a surprise attack. They never demand China return Tibet’s independence. They never demand an independent Kurdistan, free from Turkey and Syria, something for which Kurds have been fighting for centuries. Europe and its distorted “outrage” as usual. Within ten years, when Europe is renamed Eurabia, churches are all converted to mosques, and everyone has to convert to Islam or pay jizya, perhaps truth may creep into their minds. But too late.
