One secret of the success of jihadis throughout the ages is that they never give up. Western countries fight wars and then those wars come to an end, treaties are signed, and peace prevails. Jihadis may sign a paper, but they never give up the jihad. The Muslim Brotherhood was removed from power in Egypt twelve years ago, and is still working to get back in power. And it will continue to do so.

Egypt voiced deep concern over the rising influence of Islamist forces in Sudan, following the arrest of Al-Misbah Abu Zaid Talha, commander of the so-called Malik Ibn Baraa Brigade. Talha was detained during a visit to Alexandria, where he was reportedly engaged in activities that violated the familial and medical grounds under which he had entered the country.
The arrest of Talha, closely affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, has been widely interpreted as a signal of Cairo’s unease over his brigade’s growing clout. After supporting the Sudanese army in recapturing Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the brigade began transitioning into civilian activities aimed at expanding its influence within Sudan’s government, a development seen as potentially paving the way for a return of Islamist forces to power.
According to the Sudan Tribune, the fate of Talha remains uncertain following his arrest on Tuesday at his Alexandria residence. A senior official in Sudan’s Sovereignty Council has reportedly contacted Egyptian authorities seeking clarification and calling for his prompt release.
Cairo has not issued an official statement nor disclosed the reasons behind the arrest. However, a Sudanese source told The Arab Weekly that Talha had breached the terms of his stay by attending meetings with Sudanese nationals and speaking on religious and political matters in his capacity as the leader of an armed militia.
The source added that Talha aims to carve out a prominent role in Sudan’s post-war political landscape, and if the conflict with the RSF does not end soon, his brigade’s influence in Khartoum could become entrenched, without the formal approval of the military leadership.
The same source revealed that Talha was also detained during a June 2024 visit to Saudi Arabia. While ostensibly on pilgrimage to perform Umrah, he was reportedly found to be engaged in political and religious activities, prompting his quiet deportation to Sudan.
Egypt firmly supports the Sudanese army in its military campaign against the RSF and remains staunchly opposed to any Islamist resurgence. Its position on the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates across the region is well-established: having suffered under the group’s influence in the past, Cairo refuses to allow it any future political role….

Sudan used to be a quasi stooge of Cairo, particularly when Anwar Sadat and Gaafar Nimeiry ran those 2 countries. After that jihadist coup in Sudan in the 80s, they had decades of a shariah regime that even Osama once felt comfortable in. Today, they are in a civil war
Since Egypt is armed to the teeth, this would be a worthwhile exercise. Invade Sudan and install one of their own puppets – I’m sure they can fine one, and work w/ the Saudis and Emirates to bankroll such a regime. Similarly, help Marshall Haftar in Libya to assert his control over that entire country
In the 80s, Egypt was armed to the teeth b’cos at the time, Col Gadaffi was a pro-Soviet threat. While that’s no longer true, Egypt can use its huge army and the US weaponry it gets to stabilize 2 of its 3 neighbors
