KUALA LUMPUR: Home-grown burger chain myBurgerLab has terminated the services of its chief operating officer Andrew Chong over a post he made on social media.
In a statement on Friday (Aug 22) the company said Chong’s post caused “rightful anger, disappointment, and pain” among its Muslim customers and friends, stressing that it did not reflect the brand’s principles of respect, unity and inclusivity.
“Chong’s post contradicts our values and we take responsibility for this oversight. We condemn any discrimination or disrespect toward religion and stand in solidarity with our Muslim community….
The management confirmed that Chong’s employment was terminated with immediate effect on Aug 22, 2025.
As part of corrective measures, myBurgerLab announced it would review internal policies and introduce mandatory cultural sensitivity training in collaboration with experts such as the Islamic Development Department (Jakim). The training is to be completed within 30 days and refreshed annually….
Previously, Chong posted on X his criticism of a law in Terengganu that penalises Muslim men who skip Friday prayers without valid reason.
His remarks were condemned as Islamophobic and disrespectful to Islamic practices.
Chong later issued a public apology, admitting his words were thoughtless and had caused hurt.

People grovel for far less in your country, where muslims, despite all the noise they make, are only 6% of the total population! We’re talking here about Malaysia, a muslim majority country where they are 66% of the population. Mr Chong would have been lynched had he not apologized. As it is, he’s unlikely to find another job in Malaysia & should look at immigrating anywhere

Muhammad said in a hadith that he would sneak to burn the house belonged to people who did not pray on Friday, so Trengganu authority should do the burning too. Or, cut the hand of muslims who steal even the smallest amount like an egg.
I bet, there will be an avalanche of apostay in Malaysia after they implement the shariah law as what Islam really says.

If I lived in a country (which does not exist) where it was mandatory to go to church or feel the heat in some way, it wouldn’t bother me….no anger, no pain, no disappointment…if someone said that people shouldn’t have to attend.
Religion should be a personal thing…every person should get to choose if they have one and which one they have if they so choose one.
It’s too bad he had to apologize in order to keep on living. As Infidel wrote above, he should find another place to hang his hat where they won’t be out for his head…..
