Banafsheh Zand says
There is NO such thing as “Persian”! That was the ancient Greek word for the capital of Iran during the time of Cyrus the Great and the Achaemenid and Sasanian dynasties. It’s like calling America “Nebraska” or the name of any other state and expecting it to mean “America”!
Iran is Iran. Iran is the Iranian people and nation, not the damned mullahs who are KHOMEINISTS and who hijacked the nation and the land in 1979. Westerners need to understand this reality and stop misrepresenting us.
somehistory says
Try reading Ezekiel 38-39 in the Bible. Persia was clearly written by that prophet of God, and he was not writing in Greek.
Cyrus brought the Persians to power; there was an ancient people by that name and many in iran still call it Persia.
iran is a modern day name for a country gone to the slime of the fake prophet and false god.
from 1935
If those women want Mr. Trump to support them and they call themselves Persian, that is their choice, not yours.
Banafsheh Zand says
READ MY COMMENT! Persia was written 2500 years ago! AND, as I said, it was a GREEK word! And I highly recommend you stop telling us IRANIANS who we are!!!
somehistory says
First of all, I did ‘read your comment’.
Secondly, it’s very rude to shout.
Ezekiel was written between 593 and 571 B.C. Can you count how many years ago that was?
Also, the prophet Daniel wrote about the “prince of the royal realm of Persia,” and his book was written between 605-530.B.C.
You can be whatever you want to be and I’ll write what I choose to whether you approve or not; so your *recommendation* is nothing.
But all of that aside, If those women wish to be called Persian, that is their choice.
Banafsheh Zand says
WHATEVER you say, your highness! I am sick of arguing with hothead-know-it-all Westerners like you!
somehistory says
You ae the one who needs to cool down.
And if you are “sick,” then quit doing what makes you that way.

Essentially, Persia is a southern province of the country, known in Farsi as “Fars”. It’s where Persepolis (now Shiraz), Pasargadae, Susa and other major cities of the Median and Achaemenid empires were located. The Parthians were technically not Persians: they were based in the part since called Khorasan, and the Sassanids were based in the western part of the country, near Ctesiphon (near today’s Baghdad)
I generally use the term “Persia/n” to refer to pre-islamic Iran. Of course, that doesn’t mean that if Iran throws off islam, that we need to stop calling it Iran. Ultimately, that’s for the Iranian people to decide. But yeah, calling Iran Persia is like calling Britain England or Netherlands Holland, and even that is less accurate, given that Iran has had many capitals outside Fars – Ctesiphon, Buqhara, Samarqand, Merw, Tabriz, Ardabil, Isfahan, Mashhed and Tehran
somehistory says
My point to the iranian was that if those women call themselves Persian, that is their choice to make.
If I moved to Nebraska, I wouldn’t begin calling myself Nebraskan anymore than I called my self Texan when I lived in Texas. I am a Floridian by birth and everywhere I go, I am Floridian.
And, I have heard Americans tell non when asked if they were American, name the State. from which they are.
On ancient maps, the land is named Persia. Today, with the land so much in the news, iran has come to mean a place where evil people do evil things….especially to girls and women.
Bret says
Why do so many Iranians refer to themselves as Persians. And was not Iran Persia no too long ago?
somehistory says
The shah guy changed the name in 1935

They’re trying to rebrand themselves – inaccurately – to segregate themselves from their jihadist countrymen. Which IMO is needless: I agree w/ Mr Zand above. As I pointed out, Persia is just the name for Pars, or Fars, which for today is essentially the district of Shiraz and its surroundings. It does not include many historical cities that were part of the empire – Isfahan, Nishabour, Tabriz, Yazd, Tehran (the current capital!)
Just like Germans didn’t have to reinvent the name of their country to distance themselves from Nazism, Iran too doesn’t need to rebrand itself. It can remain Iran, even if it throws off islamic rule
Interestingly, in the Civilization series of computer games, “Persia” is the name given to all the pre-islamic empires that ruled Iran, while “Iran” is the name given to all the post-islamic empires that ruled that land. Interestingly, except for the Samanids and the Pahlevis, none of the dynasties that ruled Iran was actually Iranic

That vicious Islamic “morality police” of Iran even go so far as to raise a terrible horrendous brutal fuss over a little bit of hair showing on a woman’s head not only proves true the old saying that “Evil is always looking for an excuse.” But this also further exposes the malicious and oppressive misogyny of Islam and of that Islamic tyranny of Iran.
That horrific vicious and cruel “mullah regime” of Iran is brutal and cruel violator of human rights. Especially regarding the human rights of girls and woman.
For example, to imprison women for not wearing the hijab is but one part of the anti-female tyranny of this tyrannical “mullah regime” of Iran.
That ruthless cruel brutal heinous Islamic regime of Iran that is so unfittingly has the word “Republic” in its title ,for its called “ The Islamic Republic of Iran” [ I R I].
That brutal cruel Islamic tyrannical regime of Iran is full of ruthless malicious misogyny.
On the topic of this Islamic tyranny of Iran a former Muslim revealed that “The IRI system recognizes women as dependent upon men and incomplete human beings who need to be supervised and controlled by men and the State. This author further exposed that “Women are created for the purposes of giving pleasure to men and child bearing – functions that confine them to the home” This is a male Chauvinistic as can possibly be.
In addition this writer further makes it known that “The IRI legal system still retains traditional patriarchal bias that can be described as nothing but systemic subordination of women , which is undoubtedly a human rights violations .”
Walter Sieruk says
That heinously cruel and murderous Islamic tyranny of Iran is very brutal and vicious to the Iranian people. Especially regarding females. Both girls and women.
The murder of Mahsa Amini is very sad and tragic and that horrendous evil of her being murdered is because of the oppressive vicious brutal cruel and deadly misogynistic Islamic regime of Iran.
That action of male Muslim who are officials murdering defenseless, helpless women in cold blood is a heinous and hideous has occurred before and if that murderous Islamic regime isn’t overthrown such wicked killing will continue
Another example of such callous despicable heartless anti-female evil is when a teenage girl in Iran was talking to her boyfriend on the phone and then the Islamic state “police” walked over to her and shot her dead. They did that wicked and malicious thing to her because she was talking to her boyfriend and they also didn’t like her clothing. [1]
That was a clear cut case of murder and vicious Islamic madness by Iran’s Islamic state “ police”, who call themselves the “Revolutionary Guards”, they got away with their hideous and malice –filled evil because the mullahs as well as other villains in power in that tyrannical Islamic regime.

That brutal cruel oppressive misogynistic tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran is based on Sharia which denies basic human rights is viciously harsh oppressive to girls and women. For
Islam’s Sharia supports forcing females to wear the borka or hijab which is a symbol of the misogyny of Islam with its Sharia.
As for the Muslims who have the Islamic goal to make Sharia the Law of the land in Europe, it therefore should be made known that the actual origin of Sharia had been revealed in a Time –Life book with the title MESOPOTAMIA: THE MIGHTY KINGS copyright 1995 ” For that future history book about the ancient pagan world of Mesopotamia informs the reader that “many Islamic laws resemble the Babylon and Assyrian forebears.” .page 150.
Therefore Sharia is of pagan origin and therefore has no value or worth.

Instead of utopia, Iran is an Islamic totalitarian nightmare…” and “the Islamic Republic of Iran exists and operates as what every Islamic fundamentalist dreams of, an Islamic state ruled by Sharia …What followed its establishment was the inevitable consequence and inexorable logic of its Islamic premises; state terrorism, a merciless tyranny.” [1]
This heinous Islamic has been also exposed by another author who was born and lived in a Middle Eastern nation for many years. She wrote “Female freedom and independence is one of the greatest sins in Islam…” and “Women in Islam are considered unclean, deemed inferior even to dirt.” [2]
All this is wicked, unjust and misogynistic to the extreme. Islam had not regard for human life, regardless of what the apologists for this religion will claim.
