In March, Istanbul’s popular mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was officially nominated for president by the opposition CHP party for the 2028 elections, despite having been thrown in jail on trumped-up charges. Now three more mayors who represent a threat to the leadership of Islamic supremacist Erdogan have been detained.
Nonetheless, Erdogan acts as though he has no accountability to anyone on his home turf, nor even to NATO or the UN. He does and says what he pleases, and no one holds him to account. Imagine if Israel had employed the same brutal tactics against competitors in an election that Erdogan has used against Imamoglu. The upheaval would be deafening.
Erdogan has made no secret of his ambitions for a revived global Ottoman Empire with himself as caliph, and no one challenges him as moves forward in this direction.

Turkey arrested three more opposition mayors early on Saturday as part of an investigation into alleged graft, officials from the main opposition CHP said, denouncing it as a “political operation”.
The early morning arrests were the latest move targeting elected officials of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) as the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan puts increasing pressure on the party which won a huge victory against his AKP in the 2024 local elections and is rising in the polls.
The arrests were linked to an investigation into alleged graft which resulted in the removal in March of Istanbul’s powerful opposition mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, whose jailing sparked mass protests in Turkey’s worst street unrest since 2013.
Imamoglu is Erdogan’s biggest political rival and the CHP’s candidate for the 2028 presidential race.
Earlier this week, police arrested more than 120 people as part of a probe into alleged graft in the opposition stronghold of Izmir, Turkey’s third city.
The latest detainees were based in southern Turkey: mayor of the southern city of Adana, Zeydan Karalar, mayor of the resort town of Antalya, Muhittin Bocek, and the mayor of Adiyaman in the southeast, Abdurrahman Tutdere.

Adana was the site of the 1909 massacres and purge of Armenians. Antalya is a major tourist destination with beautiful beaches. Adiyaman is predominantly Kurdish, so of course the mayor’s arrest was political.
I have always wanted to go to Anatolia to see where my ancestors came from, but I refuse to do it until the Turkish squatters are gone. So probably never will.
If I believed in reincarnation, I’d think that Erdogan is Hitler come back to plague us.
