Had the French not provided Khomeini with a refuge at the village of Neauphle-le-Chateau, the Shah’s police might have locked him up, and the Islamic Republic never come to pass. But the French only saw Khomeini as a victim of the Shah’s despotism, a soft-spoken cleric who surely meant no harm, but none of the French authorities, according to the late Professor Bernard Lewis, had read Khomeini’s writings in which his plans for an Islamic theocracy were spelled out. Khomeini, as we now know, turned out to be the brutal carrier of Islamic totalitarianism that would result in the Iranian people being put in thrall to a murderous theocracy many times worse than the Shah’s rule. Furthermore, that Islamic Republic has extended its tentacles throughout much of the Middle East, supporting terror groups including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and even sending its agents into Europe to assassinate Iranian exiles such as Shahpour Bakhtiar, Iran’s last prime minister under the Shah, an articulate secular liberal whose views enraged the Iranian mullahs.
In Libya, Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011. Long before that, in 2003, he had given up all of his weapons of mass destruction, shut his nuclear weapons program, stopped supporting terrorism, and prevented people-smugglers from using Libyan ports to ferry their human cargo to Europe. He had seen what happened to Saddam Hussein that year, and wanted to ensure that the Western powers would have no reason to be coming after him.
Despite Gaddafi’s remarkable volte-face and unilateral disarmament, France decided to help the rebels to topple him, leaving Libya in constant turmoil ever since. The human traffickers have reappeared and are again using Libyan ports without the authorities in either of the rival Libyan governments — one in the east and another in the west of the country — trying to stop them.
Today, Emmanuel Macron, unable or unwilling to stop the migrant-smuggling boats — the migrants are overwhelmingly Muslims — from leaving French ports for the U.K., has earned the ire of the British government, that expected France to staunch the flow. Macron is afraid of angering his large Muslim population. For the same reason — a desire to keep Muslims in France happy — he has been pushing for the recognition, by the countries in the EU, of a Palestinian state. So far he has been rebuffed by all the EU countries except Spain and Ireland, and has even had to postpone indefinitely a meeting he had hoped to preside over this summer to discuss that possibility.
Macron has also run up against the opposition of such pro-Israel countries in the EU as Hungary, Czechia, and Italy, and is also aware that the Trump administration is dead set against any such recognition. He has put off such a meeting, but not altogether abandoned the idea. His critics say he has been paying too much attention to foreign affairs, which makes for a larger splash, and too little attention to the French economy, which is floundering, with strikes by the national railroad and plane employees, and even by the civil servants, price rises, job losses, and a widespread feeling of discontent, including the growing alarm at the presence of millions of Muslims, who are costing the state tens of billions of dollars in benefits — housing, medical care, education, unemployment benefits, family allowances, and more.
In addition, those Muslim migrants turn to crime to “make ends meet” beyond the many benefits lavished upon them by the government. Muslims make up 10% of the French population, but close to 60% of the prison population. A general air of insecurity reigns in many places. The French are well aware of the No-Go Zones in many of their cities where the population is overwhelmingly Muslim; non-Muslims dare not enter, and even the police and firemen go into these places to fulfill their functions heavily guarded. In the major cities, Jews and single women are particularly worried about becoming the special object of Muslim attacks.
What will France be like in another decade? Or in two?

Maybe Macron can give all Hamas members sanctuary in France. What is his proposed layout of a Palestinian State? The two state solution will not work. Gaza and West Bank would have to be separate entities with responsibility for their behavior being assumed by Egypt and Jordan, respectively.. Never mind that both were originally Israeli territory.

In the final analysis, work with the French at times but never trust them.
As an example, even though the French definitely helped the American cause during the Revolutionary War, they did so first and foremost to seek revenge on the British for beating them up so badly in the immediate previous war, i.e., the French and Indian War (and known in Europe as the Sevens Year War). And thereafter, the French did their best to diminish America’s victory during the peace conferences by trying to confine the new American nation to only that area east of the Appalachians. Fortunately, more enlightened people on the British side, e.g., the Earl of Shelbourne and Prime Minister at the time, realized that an expanded America as far west as the Mississippi was in the best interests of Britain with wonderful things like trade and overall prosperity benefitting both British and Americans alike. Shelbourne knew full well what the French were up to as did American folks like Benjamin Franklin and John Adams. Yes, France wanted a very weakened and limited America as a permanent dependent on France. Fortunately, wiser and shrewder people both on the British side and the American side new better.
Conclusion about the French: Same old same old. Rogues in the 18th century and rogues in the 21st century—and “in between” as well, for instance Napoleon III’s “activities” in Mexico in the 1860s.

Rogue or not, this time France is ending its run as a socialist and free nation without any effective methods of avoiding absorption by Islam.
It was partly the West, warring in the ME, which created legitimate refugees but France and the EU applied no filtering to determine and reject economic refugees. Nor did it determine, through serious study, the obvious results of the non-integrating Islamic culture that came with the immigrants.
The Shengen agreement gave immigrants open travel to the best benefits of which the “refugees” were already “magically” aware.
Stopping the trend of France toward assimilation by Islam appears to be only possible through methods of drastically increasing native child bearing, expulsion of trouble makers, and the worst solution of all – civil war.
Is it possible for the youth of France to give up personal wants and invest in children or has the die been cast? Japan is erasing itself without the burden of Islam. What chance will France have? I’m pessimistic because the entire Western World seems to act as if hedonism and avoiding children have no consequences.
