No consequences.
Life is not only stranger, but much more horrifying than fiction. For example, the woman who signed off on all of the terrible, dubious and illegible visa applications from the 9/11 hijackers went on working for the State Department with no consequences. And the pilot who trained Mohammed Atta and joked about flying a plane into a building with them, was forced to leave the U.S. and got a job flying planes in Spain.
He’s now at the center of an international incident that happened when a Spanish budget airline, Vueling, forced a group of French Jewish campers ages 10-15 to leave the plane. And then violently arrested their 21-year-old female chaperone.
When social media sleuths began digging into the incident, they identified the pilot as Iván Chirivella and found that he was reportedly the same man who had provided flight training to the 9/11 hijackers. Some have accused him of playing a leading role in demanding that the children be kicked off the plane.
The ugly incident in Spain aside, it is absolutely mindboggling that anyone involved in enabling the 9/11 attacks is still working in anything resembling a field where they can pose a security threat. And yet it keeps on happening.
The lack of consequences is incredible.

I had not read or heard of the kids being kicked off the plane. This terrorist should be behind bars, not having a paid job, but doing the dirty work of prison time.

“Former White House counter terrorism expert Richard Clarke told Vanity Fair the Bush administration decided to allow a group of Saudis to fly out of U.S. airspace just after Sept. 11– a time when access to the United States was still restricted and required special government approval.”

Followup on this: on @X, I read that Vueling has from its official account begged people not to retweet his pictures. Too late for that, and Yueling will have to sue in many countries to get that completely taken off

I have always wondered how someone could approach a flight school and state that they didn’t need to learn about taking off and landing, only the airborne part. Apparently, this is what Mohammed Atta did. With this guy as the instructor, it’s a little easier to understand.

That was a puzzle….why would a flight instructor teach someone how to fly only, when landing safely is the usual plan? And yes, now we can *understand* why.. The pilot instructor is blood guilty.

I thought the instructor may just have been ignorant–or have assumed that his students were. This was, after all, *before* 9/11, and they may not have realized what went into flying planes. My first thought at the time probably would have been more pilot for some third world Islamic country, not murderous hijackers.

So Spanish airlines employ pilots who taught Muslim terrorist hijackers to fly, teaching them the one skill they needed to perpetrate 911. Their passengers should be given full warning disclosure of Spanish airlines policies.

Well, *this* is disturbing. I had assumed that whover taught the 9/11 hijackers to fly was just an otherwise-none-too-perceptive flight instructor. But his being an antisemite–and to children!–puts a different, and darker, spin on things.
