Zohran Mamdani’s economic promises consist of things the mayor doesn’t have the legal authority to do and things that there isn’t enough money to implement.
His government grocery stores plan was based on an accounting error.
Many of his other promises are based on powers that the mayor’s office doesn’t have.
If you think that Mamdani is serious about any of these things, then that’s a takedown. But he isn’t. The grab bag of leftist fantasies is there to reel in leftists, many of whom are well off and wouldn’t have the faintest idea if any of these things actually happen.
But where Bernie Sanders is probably hypothetically serious about trying to implement some of his plans (but probably would spend most of his time banging on the table, yelling at his staff and recording TikToks yelling about billionaires), Mamdani like AOC isn’t.
And where AOC uses this stuff to get more famous and powerful, Mamdani is a product of the red-green alliance, but I suspect he’s much less serious about the ‘red stuff’ than the ‘green stuff’.
The Muslim areas which turned out bloc votes to push him through aren’t interested in his program of defunding the police, raising taxes or direct socialism, not unless it directly benefits them.
He may not be really serious about government grocery stores, but I suspect he’s quite serious about outlawing most Jewish organizations in New York City. And I imagine he’s got plans for the NYPD, that don’t involve defunding it, but does involve turning it into a counterpart of the Met Police, tasked with cracking down on Islamophobia. The Communism isn’t coming, but the Islamism is.

I don’t believe they actually consider their lawless code of conduct “superior to the Constitution.”
It’s just that the Constitution gives the Freedoms…at least on paper….to everyone; and they want to decide who gets to do what and who gets it done to them.

Both Marxism and Islam suck. But Islam is the greater menace because it remains the best disguised awful ideology in mankind’s history. Have to give Islam that, i.e., no ideology that is totally messed up and totalitarian in nature has had a longer life of it than Islam. By comparison, Marxism, Nazism and modern Western Leftism (which is just a rehashed Marxism under a different name with more than a few “Nazi-like” elements added to it) are just JV players. Oh yeah, Islam is pure varsity stuff and why it remains the chief menace to the West continuing to be the West.

“Of all the ways that Zohran Mamdani could be compared to Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, this is likely the one he wanted least.
According to a report published Thursday evening in The New York Times, Mamdani claimed on his application to Columbia University to be both “Asian” and “Black or African American.”
This 2009 application, obtained by the Times, is at odds with his presentation of himself on the campaign trail, where he has stressed that he’s a Muslim of South Asian descent. It was among data stolen and released last month by a “hacktivist” who wanted to see if the Ivy League university was still using affirmative action to discriminate against students in spite of Supreme Court decisions that forbid heavily loading the dice against applicants solely due to their race.
The move, the Times reported, would have increased his chances of getting accepted to the elite New York City school. He ended up graduating from another elite liberal arts institution, Maine’s Bowdoin College, where his major was Africana studies; Mamdani says the decision was due in part to the fact that his father was and is a professor at Columbia. He did not get in, anyhow, although he says he filled out all of his applications the same way.
“Columbia, like many elite universities, used a race-conscious affirmative action admissions program at the time. Reporting that his race was Black or African American in addition to Asian could have given an advantage to Mr. Mamdani, who was born in Uganda and spent his earliest years there,” the Times reported.
“The Times could not find any speeches or interviews in which Mr. Mamdani referred to himself as Black or African American, and Mr. Mamdani said the college applications were the only instances where he could recall describing himself as such.”
Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, albeit to two members of the African country’s ethnically Indian diaspora: academic Mahmood Mamdani and filmmaker Mira Nair. He would leave for South Africa at age 5 and then the United States at age 7.
Speaking to the Times on Thursday, Mamdani said that the information was not conveyed to get an upper hand by identifying him as a black American but instead to emphasize his complex background as “an American who was born in Africa.”
