The peculiar letter to Israel named “potential members of a future Iranian government.” The names included “Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Islamic Revolution leader Ruhollah Khomeini,” and Hassan Rouhani, the former President of Iran. Neither of these men are “reformists.”
The word “reformist” has been thrown around too casually, and this has served to confuse the discourse for those in the West who know little to nothing about Islam. That’s because Westerners associate “reform” with efforts to become a freer, more democratic society. There are no reformists associated to the Iranian regime.
Iran is hostile toward Israel. So why would anyone associated with Hassan Khomeini and Hassan Rouhani be calling themselves “reformist” and reaching out to Israel? It appears to be a bold attempt by deceiving Iranian regime loyalists to set a trap for Israel. It was also reported less than two weeks ago that Hassan Khamenei was one of the names that Iranian regime officials were considering as a frontrunner to succeed Khamenei.
These so-called “reformists” want to overthrow Khamenei to put in place a stronger Islamic Republic of Iran, not a secular or reformist Iran.
Israel has long stated that the purpose for Operation Rising Lion was not regime change, but to neutralize the Islamic regime’s nuclear threat. As such, an Israeli source has stated: Israel “is not prepared to respond to such requests and will not embark on such a path.”
This peculiar letter is another gesture by Iran which shows how devastated and desperate the regime is.
“Iranian reformists request Israel help overthrow regime,” by Liran Aharoni, Jerusalem Post, July 6, 2025:
Prominent figures in Iran’s reformist movement requested Israel’s support for a regime change process in Iran during the first week of Operation Rising Lion, London-based Iranian opposition network Manoto reported on Saturday.
A well-informed source in Israel confirmed the report in principle and said that among the signatories of the letter were several prominent reformists.
“If Israel supports us in the process of regime change, our candidates are fully prepared to take over the administration of the country,” the letter stated.
Potential members of an Iranian government
The letter listed several potential members of a future Iranian government, including Mostafa Tajzadeh, a senior figure in Iran’s reformist camp, and Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of Islamic Revolution leader Ruhollah Khomeini.….

I don’t think the regime has been damaged enough, since Trump prematurely aborted the war. Israel should have inflicted more damage to the IRGC/Basij throughout the country, not just Tehran, and also destroyed some sites important to the regime, like Khomenei’s mosque & mausoleum. Also, just like they took out 2 successive heads of the IRGC, they should have done the same to Khamenei and the first 2 of his successors, so that nobody would have dared fill the vacuum. Then let Reza Pahlavi’s group and even the MEK put together a transition plan for a post islamic Iran
I do prefer Pahlavi’s plan to transition Iran, and after that, it should be up to the Iranian people on what the new government will be. Preferably a secular democracy. But I don’t think there should be any role for any Khomenei, Khamenei or Rouhani or anyone associated w/, or even related to, members of the islamic regime

THey should definitely not be supported, but other real opposition, like Pahlavi is. Also, if the Iranian people decided to elect MEK, it would be stupid, but that right to be communist should be respected
