NORTHWOOD, July 10 (Reuters) – France and Britain on Thursday agreed to reinforce cooperation over their respective nuclear arsenals as the two European powerhouses seek to respond to growing threats to the continent and uncertainty over their U.S. ally.
The announcement came after French President Emmanuel Macron concluded a three-day state visit to Britain, where the two allies sought to turn the page of years’ of turbulence following Britain’s decision to withdraw from the European Union.
“This morning, we signed the Northward declaration, confirming for the first time that we are coordinating our independent nuclear deterrence,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told a news conference alongside Macron.
“From today, our adversaries will know that any extreme threat to this continent would prompt a response from our two nations. There is no greater demonstration of the importance of this relationship.”
U.S. President Donald Trump’s questioning of burden-sharing in NATO and his overtures to Russia have led to existential questions in Europe about the trans-Atlantic relationship and Washington’s commitment to helping defend its European allies.

I had totally forgotten that Britain & France have nukes. I wonder how they are deployed, and what they would do in the event of a military threat? Also, as someone in one of the shows Robert appeared in noted, there are now 3 muslim countries that have nukes – Pakistan, France and the UK. I’d probably prefer that both Britain & France remain nuclear free countries: the only ones whose nukes I’m okay w/ are the US and Russia, and maybe, just maybe, China

I believe if you search the UK has 4 boats, each loaded with 16 US made Trident missiles, each of which can carry up to 12 UK made hydrogen bombs. France has locally made ballistic missile submarines with locally made missiles and bombs. The threat posed by the French fleet in 1940 is TRIVIAL compared to the threat posed by the UK and France today.

[Additional] According to Wikipedia, the French Navy has 4 boats intended to be similar to the UK with 16 missiles each and up to 10 French made bombs each. Two are at sea at any given time.

GI, with eternal respect, there is nothing to support the dream that Europe will see its suicidal error until it is too late. Many Jews in the Holocaust (about half of German Jews) deluded themselves that Hitler didn’t mean what he was saying, writing and doing. Islam has been murdering non-believers for 1400 years, estimated by various sources between 250 and 1000 million humans over that time. To me, this is a perfect illustration of Viktor Frankl’s “Delusion of Reprieve” in Man’s Search for Meaning. Just as Jews in death camps were going to die, Europe is going to fall to Islam.
