Australia: Pro-Hamas thugs torch Melbourne synagogue and storm Israeli restaurant

“Shocking scenes as protesters storm an Israeli restaurant in Melbourne – as a Jewish synagogue is torched nearby,” by Nicholas Comino, Daily Mail Australia, July 4, 2025:

A group of anti-Israeli protesters have terrorised shocked diners by storming a restaurant in Melbourne‘s CBD – as an arsonist targeted a nearby synagogue.

The chaotic scenes unfolded at the Israeli-owned Miznon eatery on Hardware Lane, where up to 20 protesters hurled chairs, food, and glassware at the venue while chanting ‘Death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)’.

Footage shared online showed the breakaway group throwing traffic bollards by passing cars and yelling expletives on their way to the restaurant after a separate protest involving 80 pro-Palestine in nearby Swanston Street.

When the masked protesters arrived at Miznon, diners can be heard screaming as furniture and tables are overturned.

Protesters were then seen clashing with police after dozens of officers arrived on the scene and shut down the laneway at both ends.

One protester was arrested for hindering police and released on summons.

‘Several other protesters were spoken to by police and had their identities clarified for the purpose of follow-up investigation,’ a spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Victoria Police continued to support the rights of Victorians to protest peacefully but will not tolerate the kind of anti-social and violent behaviour that was witnessed this evening.’

The chaotic scenes shocked many diners and passers-by in the bustling precinct.

 Other restaurants in Hardware Lane were also damaged….

  4. Only ONE arrest? And that was for “hindering police”. Trashing a restaurant is fine, but don’t bother the police.
    Seriously, the restaurant and all its patrons should get the names of everyone involved, and sue them. All Jews should for the money to relocate to Israel, including replacing salaries they would have gotten in Australia, because they can no longer feel safe in Australia.
    I’d stop drinking Foster’s if I actually drank the stuff.

    Reminds of school days when the teacher had to leave the room, she’d put someone *in charge* while she was gone.
    Most times, some of the kids would act up, shooting spitballs, throwing wads of crumpled paper, and shouting stuff at other kids. The kid in charge *took names.*

    One time, the kid in charge gave the long list of names to the teacher. She put it aside, did nothing about any of the misbehavior and began the lesson scheduled for that class.

  7. Question to our resident Australians here – Tim Gallagher, Carpediem or anyone else – is Australia’s Labour Party as virulently anti-Israel as some of the ones in Europe, such as the UK, Ireland & so on? Or is there hope for them?

    Regardless of their opinions on Israel, is it too much to expect that they keep their Jewish populations safe? Or do those people have to start planning for aliya?

    • Infidel, the Australian government that was recently voted back into power in a landslide win is full of very left wing people and they definitely tend to be very pro Palestine and anti Israel. It is the trendy left wing attitude throughout the world and it is no different here in Australia. It has been a terrible year or so for Jewish people in this country and that mob invading that restaurant the other night made me think 1930s Germany. I used to watch sky news and they often interviewed a retired Labor politician who is Jewish named Michael Danby and he kept making the point that this current Labor govt were very left wing and he was appalled about their outlook. Authorities here have been used to a fairly peaceful country, so they are probably having difficulty coping with violence over the past year. Just to conclude, Australia would often follow England and so it would be labour, but for some reason that I don’t know, it is Labor party.

        • Thanks, James. In a democracy, you get the type of government you deserve and Albanese and his Labor mob won easily. I was just listening to some talk back radio and the discussion was about how Albanese seems to be afraid to have a meeting with Trump. The govt here doesn’t want to spend any extra money on defence. I think Albanese might think that Trump will do a zelenskyy on him. I think Albanese is off to China soon. I have said it a few times, out in this area of the world, China seems certain dominate completely including bullying Australia. I would say that China already owns us economically. On the news last night they said that Netanyahu had told the govt to do more about the disgusting anti semitism in Australia. The past year has been appalling with Jewish people being terrorised.

        “Authorities” had NO trouble controlling the population protesting in Victoria during the covid lockdowns in Victoria.
        Police were out in force, regularly assaulting innocent non violent citizens.
        For protests action, they often warned protest leaders the night before, at their own homes, not to go to the protests the next day.
        Protest organisers were arrested, fined and locked up.
        One large protest was completely stopped due to police being out in force on roads with checkpoints, id checks,. They stopped all transport to the city location for several hours.

        Jewhating leftists and Muslims dominate most institutions. The Labor lefty regime in Victoria, where Melbourne is, has a Muslim Palestinian protest organiser as head of a metalworks firm that works with govt on their massive building projects.
        He helped to organise a permanent protest – Sit Intifada – at parliament. The palestinian flag – three of them – has been flying at parliament since Oct 7th.

        A palestinian network group dominates the protest scene and much of media at the grassroots level. The head of that has been allegedly sexually harassing some local Palestinian women too, but is not reported and noone cares.
        They have Jewhating Christian and Jewish supporters who are complete dimwits but fancy themselves as moral.

        Politicians who oppose this stuff are few in number electorally and when they do express themselves are very weak about it.

        They want Muslim votes. It’s that simple.

        • You are right about the heavy handed treatment that the police gave to peaceful people in Victoria during COVID. I guess the police knew that they were dealing with harmless, peaceful people, carpediadem, so they treated them violently. I feel that we have left wingers, members of the red green alliance, in charge everywhere, federally, in Victoria, in NSW,etc and their sympathies lie with the Palestinians and, idiotically, with the Muslims. Australia has become a far worse place with this sickening anti Jewish behaviour. I communicate with talk back radio presenters and say that, in the long run, everyone will realise that letting Muslims into the country is the dumbest and most destructive move ever, because I am certain that will the case. That said, the Chinese war machine is probably our biggest threat. China is an elephant and Australia an ant by comparison.

          Excellent points. During Covid, I read that Melbourne was totally locked down, and there was nothing citizens could do about it. Governments do have the power to crack down even on majorities, so the argument that they can’t confront Antifa or muslim thugs is hogwash. They simply don’t want to

        I used to be under the impression that Australia followed American standards, while Canada & NZ, in order to be different from America & Australia, either followed British, or one of their own (like the Canadian date format YYYY-MM-DD)

        I was watching Newsmax a couple of years ago, which had newly hired an Australian reporter named Marianne Williamson, and had her reporting from Kyiv on the Russian invasion which had just started. In one of her reports, she used the word “petrol” before quickly “correcting” herself and substituting it w/ “gasoline” 😁

          Hmm – if we’re going to be picky – she had already “substituted” the word “petrol” for the word “gasoline”.

          (ie – to “substitute for” isn’t used as a… er….substitute for to “replace with”: There is no such construction as “substitute with” – or even “replace for”.)

          Get it wrong, and other person get exactly the wrong idea about which one is being removed and which one is being put in it’s place. This has led to at least one death that I know of. (Wrong gas-cylinder used in an operating theatre.)

          (I wonder if the Coroner’s Court has a verdict of “Death by grammatical error”?)

      • You are welcome, infidel. I hope you are going well. Australia remains a pretty good place to live but I think that many people would agree with me that is is not as peaceful as it once was. Just in the past couple of weeks, in Sydney, two innocent young men have been murdered in cases of mistaken identity as violent crime gangs, mostly Muslims, go after one another. And the anti Jewish crimes are sickening.

  8. Those who barged into the restaurant and damaged property and terrorised the diners should have been arrested. (And before that, they were throwing traffic bollards at passing cars; THAT could have caused serious injury or death; that it did not, was pure luck).

    NOT arresting them is absolutely crazy. The cops HAD them bottled up: the laneway was closed at both ends.. the thugs had no ‘escape route’. Every single thug who trespassed into and/or damaged something in that restaurant should have been caught, fingerprinted, handcuffed, and removed from the area inside a paddywagon, to spend the night in jail. Background check them; and run their details (DNA, fingerprints) through the unsolved-crimes database…

    They committed trespass and vandalism, for starters. The instant that they entered that restaurant – trespassing on private property, because it was perfectly plain that they were NOT customers – and began destroying property… disrupting the operation of the business and causing the patrons and staff to fear they would be violently assaulted (the thugs threw chairs and glassware; if they had hit anyone.. and there were children present… they could have caused serious injury or even death)… they ceased to be ‘protesters’ and became violent criminals.

    Note: the article says that they also damaged other restaurants in the area.

    ALL the affected restaurants – and the diners and staff who were put in fear for their personal safety – should get together. Work out the cost of the damage done. And then engage lawyers and start suing…

    And ask some very pointed questions of the people in charge of law enforcement in Melbourne, and in Victoria generally.

    Imagine if a bunch of Hell’s Angels had charged into a Macca’s (McDonald’s) fast food outlet and then proceeded to behave riotously and threateningly, smashing up property and terrorising the staff and customers. Do you think the cops would just ‘take names’ and then meekly let everybody go????

  9. I’m an Aussie. I love my country but I’m ashamed of the Australian government.

    It is headed by the neo-Trotskyite Albanese, and his union mates.

    Members of this poxy government, notably Prime Minister Albanese, and ministers Penny Wong, and Tony Burk, are doing four fifths of bugger all about the anti-Jewish hatred in certain cities like Melbourne and Sydney. Victoria’s Premier, the feckless Jacinta Allen is also useless.

    The police should be cracking down on these recurrent anti-Jewish terrorist activities but that’s obviously not the directive they are getting from the top. That saying about a fish rotting from the head down applies.

    In contrast, police using capsicum spray and rough-house tactics along with tactical response teams with rubber bullets and digital anti-personnel technology were used regularly to break up, disperse and arrest peaceful protesters during the Covid lock-downs. This included soft targets like grannies and pregnant women. Clearly, the police can take appropriate action when it suits the government narrative.

    It is a two tier justice system in Australia. A lone Jewish protester at a noisy, disruptive pro-Palestine rally or simply Jewish people going to a town hall meeting are threatened with arrest if they don’t leave the area wheras often the police stand idly by at pro-Palestinian rallies. Evidently, police have plenty of balls when it comes to arresting soft targets but when it comes to larger groups of the Left’s favoured minority, the police are seemingly too poop scared and lacking the gonadal fortitude.

    As to the regular synagogue and vandalism of Jewish businesses, arson attacks and lately the harassment of Jewish people at a restaurant it’s all talk and no action from our pathetic Prime Minister Anthony Albanese who is far more active at kowtowing to Chinese President Xi than being the strong leader of the Australian people.
