He may have had a few pleasant meetings, and the Chechen jihadis have been quiet as Putin showers favors upon them so as to secure their support for his war in Ukraine, but that doesn’t mean the jihad imperative has been set aside. Russia has experienced jihad before, and will again.
Patriarch Kirill also “pointed out that Orthodox Christians and Muslims have common understanding of a whole range of major issues related to human life. This is especially important now, when moral and other fundamental principles, such as attitude toward family, marriage and the purpose of man, are being revised or even derailed in many countries of the so-called civilized Western world.”
They’re not really as similar as he assumes. In reality, the Islamic attitude toward marriage and family is vastly different from the Christian conception. Cooperation on social issues, meanwhile, will founder on the fact that the Qur’an considers non-believers to be “the most vile of created beings” (Qur’an 98:6). Kirill will never find himself treated as an equal in the long run.

Welcoming the guests, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church mentioned that Orthodox Christians and Muslims have lived together peacefully and without conflict for many years in Russia. “This experience of interaction shows that representatives of these two monotheistic religions can live in peace and work for achieving common goals. On the basis of the experience we have gained in Russia, it is rather easy for us to establish and develop relations with Muslims all over the world.”
His Holiness pointed out that Orthodox Christians and Muslims have common understanding of a whole range of major issues related to human life. This is especially important now, when moral and other fundamental principles, such as attitude toward family, marriage and the purpose of man, are being revised or even derailed in many countries of the so-called civilized Western world.
Patriarch Kirill also noted that the Muslim Council of Elders has for many years carried out extensive peacekeeping activity that is promoting ideas of brotherhood among people and coexistence of different traditions. His Holiness expressed gratitude for inviting the Russian Orthodox Church to participate in discussions at the interreligious forums held by the Council.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church mentioned that in some Protestant communities adhering to radically liberal positions, there is an increasingly frequent departure from traditional views on such important subjects as personal morality, family relations, etc. Patriarch Kirill noted that sometimes we can see a paradoxical situation where Orthodox Christians have more in common with Muslims on issues of ethics and morality than with the groups supporting such forms of human coexistence that run contrary to Christian morality.
“It seems to us that current developments in certain religious circles in the West are in a sense a reflection of moral crisis of modern Western society. All that is happening is a dagger to our heart. We believe that our Christian brothers must remain faithful to the commandments and principles of interpersonal relations determined by our religion; a departure fr om these principles makes our hearts ache,” Patriarch Kirill said.
Against the background of current events, it is important to develop relations between Orthodoxy and representatives of Islam, His Holiness believes. He noted that this dialogue should be about areas where unanimity and common attitude can be found, first of all, to the human person and such values as family, the upbringing of children, etc.
Speaking about Orthodox-Muslim relations in Russia, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill focused on the experience of peaceful life and friendly understanding in such regions as the Republic of Tatarstan with roughly the same number of Orthodox and Muslims living there. “This shows how easy it is to live together without enmity and fighting. I regard this experience of cooperation and common life of Orthodox and Muslims as a good example to many people.”…
Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam continued to say, “The experience of coexistence of religious communities in Russia, which you mentioned, is an important foundation of your life. However, we also have such an experience in our region, where, as we know, Christians often welcomed and protected Muslims in the early years of Islam. At Al-Azhar University, we study a story of Muhammad sending his followers to the King of Ethiopia, telling them that this noble ruler would receive and protect them. This is a very important example to follow today,” the guest continued….

Patriarch Krill is as much of a fool as Pope Francis was. Yes, I know that Russia has a Muslim population that might be as much as 15% of Russia, which of course is not good, but this shouldn’t translate into sucking up to Mohammedans and stating falsehoods. Besides, unless I am mistaken, Krill has “blessed” the “holy war” that Putin, a total killer and scumbag (a damn blunderer as well), has been waging upon Ukraine since February of 2022.
And here’s a general statement about Russia: While it has merit such as the courage of its people and definite achievements in the arts and sciences, it still remains a woeful nation which is rooted in paranoia, illusions of greatness, an absolute inability to realize the importance of liberty and a contempt for so many of its neighbors such as Poles, Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians (and of course Ukrainians too) which Russia looks upon as vassals or enemies. In brief, Russia is a sorry-ass case of a nation which is a menace to itself and to so many others. It is the turd in the punch bowl of European nations, as bad as Germany used to be or even worse.
And when has Russia produced a Russian version of a Washington, a Lincoln or a Churchill? Never. And which in itself is quite damning. I’m almost as tired of Russia as I am of the Islamic world.

Russia’s population may be 10-15%, but it’s not evenly spread. Most muslims live in a few provinces (not getting into oblasts vs krais vs federal subjects here) – Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chechnya, Dagestan…. These provinces have muslims from 50-95%, and the rest of Russia’s muslim population is way below 15%
In Moscow, where Putin built that mega-mosque, the muslim percentage is 3.5%, in St Petersburg, it’s 2.25%, in Novosibirsk, it’s 1-2% and in Yekaterinburg, it’s 3-5%. Those are the top 4 Russian cities, and they all have really low muslim percentages. There is no demographic reason for Putin to do what he’s doing: everything he’s doing is to encourage the thugs among them, particularly Chechnya, to enthusiastically join the Ukraine war by branding it a jihad

Actually, in Russia (and the other -stans), there has been a school of thought – Jadidism – which is the closest thing in islam to the Reformation in Christianity. The Chechen threat remains strong, but other Russian muslim ethnicities – the Tatars, Bashkirs, Dagestanis,… have embraced that philosophy within islam. They were persecuted both by the Romanovs and by the Soviets, but today, they seem to be the prevailing opinion among Russian and other ex-Soviet muslims
That said, Patriarch Kirill thinking that his church can establish relations w/ muslims elsewhere in the world. No muslim country in the world – from Gambia to Brunei – practices islam the way it’s done in Russia or Uzbekistan. Only reason they have not turned on Russia is that they need some ally, or at least non-enemy, in their jihad against the West

Just a note….Christianity didn’t *reform.* People just stopped the killing of those who didn’t agree. Those who murdered others because they didn’t follow someone or some group, were never Christian. The Christians were the ones being murdered….for translating the Bible; and for reading, or just owning, a Bible.
