The Strike by Israel on Iran’s State Broadcasting Authority Was Exquisitely Timed

An Israeli strike hit Iran’s state broadcaster on Monday, while the head of the UN nuclear watchdog indicated extensive damage to Iran’s biggest uranium enrichment plant and Iran called on the U.S. to force a ceasefire in the four-day-old aerial war. …Late on Monday, Israel said it hit Iran’s broadcasting authority, and footage showed a newsreader hurrying from her seat as a blast struck. Iran’s state news agency also reported the strike. Israel’s military said the building also served as a communications centre used by Iran’s armed forces.

The strike by Israel on the state broadcasting authority was exquisitely timed, for maximum effect, to occur when the evening news was being read by the black-robed and witchy Sahar Emami. Just after a loud bang could be heard, the newsroom suddenly filled with ash and smoke all around her, and she jumped out of her chair and quickly hurried out just as the screen went black. The IDF was letting tens of millions of Iranian spectators know it could strike anywhere, at any time. They could see one example on their television sets, until those too went dark.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told four European counterparts that Iran was serious about diplomacy but its current focus was on confronting aggression, Iranian state media reported. Israel has said its goal is to eliminate Tehran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon….

“If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and interested in stopping this war, next steps are consequential,” Araqchi said on X.

“Israel must halt its aggression, and absent a total cessation of military aggression against us, our responses will continue. It takes one phone call from Washington to muzzle someone like Netanyahu.”

This remark by Iran’s foreign minister — “that it takes one phone call from Washington” to have Netanyahu snap to — shows a complete misunderstanding of the relation between Israel and the U.S. Netanyahu has in the past repeatedly ignored Washington’s attempts at a diktat, as when Biden “ordered” Netanyahu not to have the IDF enter Rafah. The IDF went in anyway, and that allowed it to eventually locate and kill, inside Rafah where he had been hiding, Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the October 7, 2023 attack.

Asked if he would agree to talks should Trump want that, Netanyahu told reporters that Israel was committed to removing the threats of both nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

“If this can be achieved in another way – fine. But we gave it a 60-day chance,” Netanyahu said….

That’s pretty clear: Netanyahu will not agree to halt the war for negotiations to proceed. He is resolute: Israel will continue the war for as long as he sees fit, to “remove the threats of both nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.” And we later learned that Trump had never told Netanyahu not to target the Supreme Leader; that was a fiction put out by those who wanted to drive a wedge between Trump and Netanyahu.

Iranian media said Iran was preparing for the “largest and most intense missile attack” yet against Israel, including against military and intelligence targets.

We are all waiting for that incredible “largest and most intense missile attack” from Iran to occur. We remember such an attack was promised after the IDF struck Iran on October 26, 2024, knocking out most of its aerial defense systems, including all of its S-300 batteries. But there was no attack. And now we have this new threat, presumably meant to frighten Israel — Iran is like a toad that puffs itself up to scare its foes — and we wait, and wait. Where is that Iranian attack? Instead, the Iranians are desperately begging the Arab states to pressure Trump to tell Netanyahu to stop his attacks. Tehran wants this war it is so badly losing to end.

Meanwhile, of course, in round-the-clock attacks, Israel has laid waste to nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz, military airbases at Tabriz and Hamadan, destroyed the last of Iran’s F-14 fighter jets at an airfield near Teheran, and the IDF continues to kill more IRGC and regular army generals and commanders. And it has set on fire Iran’s largest natural gas field at Pars. Israel now has total control of Iranian airspace, and intends to escalate the campaign in coming days.

Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told the BBC on Monday it was very likely all the roughly 15,000 centrifuges operating at Iran’s biggest uranium enrichment plant at Natanz were badly damaged or destroyed because of a power cut caused by an Israeli strike….

So that takes care of Natanz — Rafael Grossi confirms the extent of the damage, saying that “very likely all” of the 15,000 centrifuges were “badly damaged or destroyed.” We know, too, that other key nuclear facilities at Isfahan have been destroyed. But what about the uranium enrichment facility built inside a mountain at Fordow? “There had been very limited or no damage at the separate Fordow plant,” Grossi said. he said. Israel will not stop until Fordow has been destroyed.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said the latest attack employed a new method that caused Israel’s multi-layered defence systems to target each other so missiles could get through.

Is this story of a “new method” developed by Iran to make Israel’s multilayered defenses to target each other rather than incoming Iranian missiles, possibly true? I suspect it is mere bluster by the Iranian government to impress its own people when they are so obviously losing the war. After all, the Iron Dome was never presented as infallible; historically, it has hit 90% of its targets, but that still means 10% of Iran’s missiles will get through — no “new method” put into operation by Iran is needed to explain the 10% that do get through Israel’s multi-tiered anti-missile net.

Iran is pleading with the Gulf Arab states to ask Trump to put pressure on Netanyahu to stop the war. The Iranians have a very naïve view of the US-Israel relationship. The IDF will end its campaign in Iran not when Trump, should he be so inclined (and so far he is not), wants it to, but when the Israelis have completed their destruction of Iran’s nuclear program, including the enrichment plant built inside a mountain at Fordow. Of course, if the Americans really want to shorten the war, they could do so either by providing Israel with the 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs to penetrate through the earth and cement that protects the Fordow plant, or even better, do that job themselves, given that Iran’s nuclear program is as much a threat to the Great Satan as it is to the Little Satan.

  1. I’ve read enough to know America must join Israel in its attack on Iran, we together must bunker bomb Iran into submission in changing out Khomeini ffor Phavlavi (spelling). The war on Iran will be a failure, if the U.S. or Israel agree to some bullshit peace agreement that ensures Khomeini continues with bomb. Come on Trump, grow a pair and join Israel in the final push to take out the nuclear threat and Khomeini.

    • The DOJ should look into deporting her since lies were told for her to enter the country….if you mean ilhan elmi, alias omar…with “due process;” and then DHS could actually do the deporting.

    • If there is even a slight chance of her being deported, I think it should be pursued. If nothing else, it will cost her for a defense, and it will get lots of publicity, so the nation can see the truth about her.

  7. I read elsewhere on @X that Iranian dissidents had appealed to Israel to take out that building, and they obliged

    One thing that struck me in the above tweet – aside from Farsi, they broadcast in English, Arabic, Azeri, Turkish and Urdu. Notable by their absences were Kurdish and Balochi, and these are 2 of Iran’s ethnic minorities, albeit sunni instead of shi’a. I can understand Arabic and Turkish, since Iran does have Turkmen minorities in Rajavi-Khorasan and Arab minorities in Khuzestan, but what is Urdu doing in the list?

    I read later that the TV station did resume broadcasting from an unknown location, but I wonder whether they’d dare show their images, or have one of those wallpaper backgrounds, or just go radio altogether?

    My only wonder – if Israel is now targeting Iranian gas fields like Pars, then why don’t they take out their single oil shipping terminal at Kharg island, which handles all of Iran’s exports. The regime won’t get anything by selling oil to its own people, since its currency is worthless, but exports are how it makes the money to build more ballistic missiles and the nuclear program. They should do this and cease targeting oilfields. But now, given the hospital attack, they should turn their full attention towards Khamenei, Masoud Pezeshkian, Abbas Araghchi (the foreign minister) and other members of the Iranian regime
