Spain is virtue-signaling again. It wants to cut all ties with Israel, beginning with the weaponry it buys from Spanish subsidiaries of Israeli companies or directly from those companies. Spain’s Defense Ministry has suspended the license of an Israeli company planning to manufacture missiles in Spain.
The missiles were intended to equip the Spanish army and Marine Corps units, local media reported on Tuesday.
Pap Tecnos is the Spanish subsidiary of the Israeli firm Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and had been awarded a €285-million contract to develop 168 firing points and 1,680 Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles….
Now the Spanish government is willing to breach a contract with the Spanish subsidiary of the celebrated Israeli defense company, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
This will not harm Rafael Advanced Defense Systems; it has a waiting list of customers for its anti-tank missiles that have proven their worth. And besides, the Israelis know that the anti-Israel animus recently displayed in Europe makes it incumbent on Israeli defense companies to seek customers in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. This will merely hasten the process.
When the contract was signed by the Spanish government in early October 2023, just before the Hamas attack, it did so despite its animus toward the Jewish state. Why? Because the product offered by Pap Tecnos was in the view of the Spanish defense procurement officials clearly the best product, at the best price, on the market, for their military’s needs. So now it will have to obtain products elsewhere that will not be as good, nor as cheap, as the Pap Tecnos product.
Furthermore, the contract undoubtedly has a penalty clause, requiring the Spanish government to pay a large sum to Pap Tecnos for breaching the contract. Spain will not come out ahead in this attempt to punish Israel; the Israelis will, via their subsidiary Pap Tecnos.
Will the Spanish government cease using products that have Israeli-originated components, including computers and smartphones? Will it no longer accept medicines or medical equipment that originate from the labs of Israeli scientists? And if given a chance to buy the spectacularly effective, and spectacularly cheap, Iron Beam, a laser-based anti-missile defense system, will Spain really refuse to buy a product that is priced just right for Spain?
The SILAM multiple rocket launcher program is expected to continue, although without technology which would have otherwise been provided by Elbit Systems, according to El Pais.
What does that mean? What will they do without the Israeli technology from Elbit for these rocket launchers? How easy will it be to replace the Israeli components, and at what increase in the price?
Despite the canceled contracts, Spanish media reported that the fate of Spain’s acquisition of 46 laser designators for €207.1 million from the company Rafael remains unclear.
What does that mean? Probably, that Spain can’t find a replacement from another, non-Israeli supplier anywhere as good as what Rafael Defense Systems can supply. So Spain is willing, it seems, to violate its own anti-Israel principles when enough money is involved
The Spanish military must be tearing their hair out. The left-wing anti-Israel government of Spain is willing to break contracts with both Spanish subsidiaries of Israeli companies, and with those Israeli companies. It is required to pay the stiff penalty con the contract it broke with Pap Tecnos. And it is willing in this case to instead contract with another provider for weapons that are either inferior to, or more expensive than, or both, the weapons it had earlier contracted to buy from Rafael’s Spanish subsidiary.
This is what is called cutting off your nose to spite your face. Meanwhile, Morocco, which may any day try to seize Spain’s last possessions in North Africa, Ceuta and Melilla, has been loading up on every kind of Israeli weapon. The Moroccan Arabs are apparently less willing to do without Israeli supplies than the Hamas-loving left-wing government in rabid drab Madrid.

That’s fine, Spain. Why don’t you cede your province of Andalusia – whose name you didn’t even bother to change – cede it to Morocco, or make it independent. It has those historic Umayyad cities of Granada and Cordoba, so pull all Catholics out of there, and tell the Moroccans to re-occupy it in memory of the Moorish caliphate there
Just hope that they don’t go on to demand the rest of the country, which was also a part of that empire. Also, hopefully, Portugal is not on the same suicidal track, and has an army that can protect it

In fact, they’re not unlike Israel: they too are a country that was once muslim, but which got reconquered by the Catholics under Ferdinand & Isabella. Maybe they can give the Arabs everything they want from Israel – right of return, an Andalusian state, and more
Native Spanish non-muslims ie everybody can flee to the Hispanic country of their choice: there are many to choose from. Send their communists to Venezuela, Cuba & Nicaragua, their free market people (if there are any) to Argentina, their industrial workers to Mexico,… and just let the whole country go back to the Moors

You’d think the last country in Europe that would want to suck up to anything Muslim would be Spain, which took some 800 years to rid itself of any Islamic presence. In fact, the Reconquista, the reclaiming of Spain from the Muslims, is the single most defining event in all of Spanish history. So all this anti-Israeli rubbish (N.B., Jews were never a threat to the integrity of Spain, contra Muslims) by present Spain makes no sense. It is a betrayal of Spain itself and Ferdinand and Isabella, were they still here, would, I have no doubt, be on my side in this matter, as would so many other Spanish monarchs like Alphonso VI who took Toledo in 1085 from its Muslim masters.

They completely overlook the fact that they can cancel or ban us but we are still out there and we are making lists. The more they cancel or ban us the bigger our coalition grows. A lot of people are not as stupid as those sites think they are. When the time comes they aren’t going to be able to say, we didn’t mean it. They need to make an effort (now) to choose wisely lest they end up in a place where they wish we were just canceling or banning them.
