A bunch of Arab ministers — of all sorts and conditions of men — wanted to visit Ramallah, to meet with President-For-Life Mahmoud Abbas, now in the 20th year of his four-year-term, and to show their support for the supposedly put-upon “Palestinians.”
Had they been allowed in, it would have been a media circus, with the Arab visitors declaring how impressed they were with Mahmoud Abbas’ “moderation” — never mind his praise of the October 7. 2023 attack by Hamas in Gaza, or his steadfast support for the “Pay-For-Slay” program, by which generous subsidies are provided to imprisoned terrorists and the families of terrorist who were killed while committing their acts of terrorism. By means of that program, the Palestinian Authority both rewards past, and incentivizes future, terrorism. No doubt the visitors, with reporters from the BBC, CNN, AP, and other major media eagerly accompanying them, would have been sure to visit the sites of recent IDF activity, places where terrorists were killed, or the houses of terrorists demolished, or a wall erected by the Israelis to separate Palestinian from Israeli towns — as a way to show the world how those terrible Israelis mistreat so many innocent “Palestinians.” Naturally, the Israeli government was not about to allow this predictable and venomous charade to go on. It did the obvious, and prevented these visitors from entering Israel and putting on their anti-Israel show.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud said the Israeli government’s refusal to allow a delegation of Arab ministers to the West Bank showed its “extremism and rejection of peace.”
The homeliest of all the Saudi princelings, the country’s foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, has announced to the public that the delegation of of Arab ministers from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan that had planned to visit Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah would not be going after all, for Israel put the kibosh on the visit. He denounced this as an example of Israeli “extremism.” But of course it was not that. Israel simply wasn’t going to allow Mahmoud Abbas and his Arab friends from putting on a show denouncing Israeli acts to suppress terrorism in Judea and Samaria. Their visit would likely have included include visits to grieving families of terrorists killed, the sites of terrorists’ family homes that had been demolished by the IDF , and scenes of recent violence between Israeli “settlers” and Arabs, presented always as unprovoked attacks by colonial-settler “racists” on innocent Arabs. There could also be a visit to a school which had been damaged by an Israeli airstrike, without the audience learning that the school building was at the time being used by Hamas — which has a presence that to hide terrorist fighters and their weapons, and no classes had been held. A school building is not always a school.
How does Israel’s refusal to make possible the propaganda event those Arab ministers were hoping to carry off, by showing Israelis as wanton oppressors and Palestinians as their victims not just in Gaza, but also in Judea and Samaria, constitute either “extremism” or a “rejection of peace? “Extremism” is being exhibited not by Israel, but by the man these Arabs wanted to visit in Ramallah, Mahmoud Abbas. It is he who praises Hamas’ attack on October 7, he who insists on paying subsidies to terrorists and their families with his “Pay-For-Slay “ program.
Nor does Israel “reject” peace. Since the days of the UN Partition Resolution in 1947, the Jews have either accepted peace plans offered by others, or offered their own peace plans, all of which have been rejected by the Arab side. It is not Israel that has been opposed to peace, but Yasser Arafat, walking away from a deal offered to him by then-Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Barak in 2000, and Mahmoud Abbas, who similarly turned down an even more generous offer from Israel’s Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in 2008.
His statement came during a joint press conference in Amman with counterparts from Jordan, Egypt and Bahrain, after they met as part of an Arab contact group that was going to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
“Israel’s refusal of the committee’s visit to the West Bank embodies and confirms its extremism and refusal of any serious attempts for (a) peaceful pathway… It strengthens our will to double our diplomatic efforts within the international community to face this arrogance,” the Saudi minister said….
In other words, the Saudi minister threatens, because Israel will not let the Arab delegation in to meet with Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, to wage a diplomatic war. It’s a meaningless threat, because the Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, have been waging a diplomatic war against Israel ever since the Jewish state was born. Just now, by preventing the Arab delegates from going to Ramallah, Israel has at least prevented the latest propaganda-fest from taking place. No mention will be made about terrorists with their weapons using schools, houses, hospitals, and mosques as hideouts, just as happened in Gaza.
France and Saudi Arabia are planning to hold an international conference in New York on June 17, where they intend to announce their recognition of a “Palestinian state,” and hope that other countries will join them in this malevolent effort. Who would govern that “state of Palestine,” how would its presumed “democracy” be sustained among people who have only ever known despotism, what would be the borders of that state, and just how do France, Saudi Arabia, and their fellow travelers intend to force Israel to yield to their plans when more than 80% of Israeli Jews are now dead-set against a Palestinian state? All that is being left in the dark. There is no chance of the Saudis and the French succeeding in their effort to create, ex nihilo, a “Palestinian” state. The Israelis won’t stand for it, and the Americans will block attempts at the UN to force Israel to accept any such plan.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said blocking the trip was another example of how Israel was “killing any chance of a just and comprehensive” Arab-Israeli settlement….
Ayman Safadi calls this ”another example” of Israel “killing any chance of a just and comprehensive” settlement. But what of all the examples of Israel offering to make peace, in the Partition Agreement that the Zionists accepted and the Arabs rejected? In the offers to make peace with the Arabs in 1949, at the end of the war to crush the nascent Jewish state that began on May 15,1948? At the Israeli effort, after the Six-Day War, to again offer to give back land won in the war in exchange for peace, which offer was met with the “Three Noes of Khartoum” — Khartoum being the place where the Arab League met in 1967 and decided that whatever Israel offered, the Arab states would only answer with “the three Noes of Khartoum” — “No peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with Israel.”
That French-Saudi conference will come and go. Israel won’t show up, and I suspect that the Trump administration will send only a low-level official, if it bothers to send one at all. Israel has no intention of its fate being decided by the deeply anti-Israel French President Emmanuel Macron and the equally malevolent “smyler with the knyf under his cloke,” as Chaucer put it, Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman.
The three-ring propaganda circus in Ramallah has been avoided. The Arabs are miffed. They wanted so much to score points against the Jewish state by having Mahmoud Abbas take them to see all the bad things the Israelis have been doing in Judea and Samaria: demolishing terrorists’ houses, killing terrorists in their lairs, even striking terrorists in schools.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz are not going to be distracted by Arab antics like that “visit to Ramallah” that they refused to allow, or pay any attention as the heathen rage against the Jewish state. The chanters and ranters can scream all they want about nonexistent “ethnic cleansing” and “genocide” in Gaza, but the IDF knows better, and has the facts to prove it. So rage, rage, all of you — including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UN Special Rapporteur For Conditions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese, Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, and so many others, too, such antisemites extraordinaires as Rashida Tlaib, Roger Waters, and Kanye West. The dogs bark, the Israeli caravan moves on.

Imagine the Arab world minus one factor, to wit, no Western technology.
Think the Saudis or any other Arabs would have figured out on their own how to extract oil from their grounds and refine it? How about developing the telegraph, railroads, telephones, cars, planes, radio, TV, computers, satellites, etc. if left on their own?
The Arab word as a whole is dispositive of just how limited the Islamic world is in general. Any advancements in the medieval period by the Islamic world were done either in spite of Islam or parasitically so. And since the last half millennia has transpired what the Islamic world has produced on its own has been even worse than in its so-called glorious period pre-1500 AD.
And technology and science aside, reflect for a moment upon how the Islamic world has advanced other things like liberty, equality under the law, women’s rights, et al. in ways other societies and civilizations have not. Coming up short? You betcha’.

Well, we know. Just look at Arab countries before WWI, when they were some backwater under Ottoman rule. Also, before the discovery of oil, the main drivers in the Arab world were Cairo and Damascus, and sometimes Baghdad. After the fall of the Abbasids, the Syria and Iraq portion of the empire fell to the Turks, while the North African one continued a while longer
This is one more reason why I believe Jay Smith’s assertion that islam did not start in Arabia: it started in places like Baghdad and Buqhara. It would explain why the fiercest islamizing conquerors, like Tamerlane, originated from Turkistan. In other words, even the biggest “achievement” of who islamized the most people doesn’t belong to the Arabs: the Turks snatched that from them

Why can’t Mahmoud Abbas make a short trip to Amman, and then all those ministers meet him there? They could have had their trip, discussed whatever they wanted, and then gone back. Maybe al Bawaba or al Arabiya could have done their media circus there, and then let it dissipate
