Amanda Kluveld is a professor at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, who has just posted her hair-raising report on antisemitism running rampant in the country. Some will remember that during World War II, the Netherlands turned over a greater percentage of its Jews to be murdered by the Nazis than any other country. The Netherlands is where Pim Fortuyn was murdered for his anti-Muslim warnings, and where Theo van Gogh was stabbed to death for making a movie about the mistreatment of Muslim women. It is now a place where protests against Israel are both commonplace and huge. On May 18, 2025, 100,000 people demonstrated in The Hague against the Jewish state for its “genocide” in Gaza. This is the environment in which Amanda Kluveld, a Jewish professor, now finds herself.

On May 13, 2025, upon arriving to teach at my university, I was confronted by demonstrators aggressively chanting slogans such as: “Say it loud, say it clear, we don’t want no Zionists here,” and even more threateningly, “With our blood, with our soul, we will redeem you, Gaza.”
As I attempted to document this explicit hostility by filming it with my phone, senior university administrators and security officials intervened — not to protect me, but to publicly pressure me into deleting my recordings. They falsely insisted I had no legal right to document this open intimidation toward Jews and Zionists. When I refused, they demanded that I physically leave — not for my safety, but explicitly because demonstrators refused to pass by me, unwilling even to tolerate my presence. Again, I refused, unwilling to legitimize antisemitic exclusion. I am a human being, it is my workplace, I have the right to exist.
Standing completely isolated and publicly humiliated, I was openly attacked by colleagues siding with the demonstrators. One colleague loudly declared explicitly for demonstrators to hear: “These are autonomous students demonstrating for a very important cause, and you’re here only to provoke trouble — disgusting.” Another colleague repeatedly insisted, “They want you to stop!” When I calmly replied that I understood but would not comply, the colleague persisted: “If you don’t stop, they won’t leave.” To this, I responded: “I do not negotiate with terrorists.”
Students shouted accusations at me, openly suggesting I was being paid to film them. A senior security official, with a student triumphantly nodding beside her, explicitly asserted: “It is okay to say this about Zionists because Zionism is a conviction.” Thus, my colleagues validated antisemitic hostility, accusing me of “refusing to cooperate with de-escalation,” perversely shifting responsibility onto me — the victim.
Zionism is a “conviction,” these logic-choppers insist, so anti-Zionism must also be a conviction, and is not, therefore, “racism.” That’s the specious argument. But almost all Zionists are Jews, and almost all Jews are Zionists, so that anti-Zionism is merely one expression of antisemitism.
When I announced my intention to formally report this intimidation, campus security — on whom I depend for protection due to ongoing threats — informed me in that case that I would stand entirely alone against the institutional establishment. With a nauseating feeling of fear in my stomach and my blood sugar rising to extreme highs — I am diabetic — I managed to say quietly, without any sense of bravery: “So be it.”
I stood alone, symbolic of the isolation imposed upon Jewish students and faculty nationwide. Today, I require a security escort simply to reach my classroom safely….
Her own colleagues denounced her, and demanded she stop filming the protesters. Not one spoke up in her support. Campus security, clearly unsympathetic, said it would not back up her story if she went ahead in reporting her intimidation at the hands of the anti-Israel demonstrators.
I explicitly accuse Femke Halsema, mayor of Amsterdam, of profound moral hypocrisy. Mayor Halsema accused Israel of “genocide,” yet deliberately withdrew the term “pogrom” when describing violent antisemitic attacks in Amsterdam. Her administration notably failed to intervene effectively during violent disruptions at the opening of Amsterdam’s Holocaust Museum.
Mayor Halsema has to look at the data before accusing Israel of “genocide.” In Gaza, of the 54,000 whom Hamas has declared dead, 22,000 were, according to the IDF, Hamas combatants. Furthermore, an average of 800 Gazans die each month from accidents and diseases, which means that in the last 20 months, 16,000 Gazans died from non-combat-related causes. That means a total of 16,000 Gazan civilians died as a result of the fighting. 16,000 out of total population of 2.2 million means, Mayor Halsema needs to be reminded, that far fewer than 1% of Gaza’s population of 2.2 million were civilians who died in the war. Does that sound like a “genocide”?
Furthermore, does Mayor Halsema know that a key metric in judging any war is the civilian-to-combatant ratio? The UN has said that in every war fought since 1945, the average ratio has been 9:1. In Afghanistan, the Americans managed to get it down to 4:1, and in Iraq, to 3:1. But the IDF has in Gaza managed to reduce that civilian-to-combatant ratio to the scarcely believable level of 16:22, or roughly 4:5. No wonder British Colonel Richard Kemp, who fought in a half-dozen campaigns and commanded British forces in Afghanistan, has said that “the IDF is the most moral army in the world,” and West Point Professor John Spencer, who has studied the Gaza War in detail, has written that “Israel has done more and implemented more measures to prevent civilian harm than any military in the history of urban warfare.” Something for Amsterdam’s mayor to ponder.
I explicitly accuse Dutch Minister of Education Eppo Bruins of profound moral negligence, consistently evading responsibility by hiding behind university autonomy, even as Jewish students report intimidation and fear. Explicit calls for violence against Zionists remain unanswered, allowing antisemitism to thrive unchecked.
Eppo Bruins, the Dutch Minister of Education, won’t step in to protect Jewish students who are being harassed on campuses, apparently claiming he lacks the authority, because universities are autonomous institutions, and the government must not interfere. So the Jewish students subject to intimidation, and even physical attacks, cannot count on him for protection. But just imagine if another group — say, Muslim students — were being mistreated as Jewish students now are, it would take less than a New York minute for Eppo Bruins to send in the police to protect these victims of “Islamophobia.”
Amanda Kluveld is waiting for those she has criticized to defend themselves. A Daniel come to judgement, she will not be silent herself, and will not accept the silence of others as a suitable response to her repeated refrain of “J’accuse.”

One must ask, “What are the current Muslim demographics in the Netherlands?” I checked the web and 6% seems correct, high enough, in Muslim mosque circles, to justify jihad in any form.

Stood with signage in front of the accused’s office? Sent them registered letters?? Authored a Peer reviewed journal article?…X post? What is the mechanism chosen by her?
