The Islamic State of Iran is not as rational as Russia, China or even North Korea and Pakistan faces nuclear armed India. The mullahs of Iran are acquiring nuclear weapons capability not for protection or a political power play, but to destroy Israel. Their own Islamic faith, actions, & statements indicate that if successful, the next target is the USA. Robert Spencer gives almost 100 examples of Iran attack U.S. bases, but that doesn’t matter.
Robert Spencer gives him numerous examples of Iran’s international assassination program taking place on U.S. soil, but that doesn’t matter.
Dave Smith is completely dismissive of Israel’s efforts to slow down Iran’s nuclear program through targeted assassination, and sabotage.
Dave Smith calls Iran a little 3rd world country, then later claims they are a formidable military force.
The fact that Iran is refining uranium at a military scale doesn’t mean anything to him. If Iran is not working toward an atomic weapon why is agreeing to give up their nuclear program such a sticking point for them in negotiations?
Dave Smith’s position boils down to Israel lies, they are the aggressor, and anything they try to do should be opposed.

Just watched it. I started w/ being open-minded to what Dave Smith was saying, but after a while, his rants became so disgusting that I just skipped his portions and went straight to Robert. Matt Gaetz did a good job of being neutral, even though Robert kept citing what Trump had said & done in the past
On the issue of regime change, the reason Iran is a threat is a combination of its current regime AND it being nuclear. The threat can be eliminated by removing either or both of those conditions. If just the nukes were eliminated, a non-nuclear islamic Iran would not be a threat. If just the regime was eliminated, a nuclear non-islamic Iran would not be a threat either. Of course, if both were eliminated, the threat wouldn’t be there either, but one doesn’t have to remove both the conditions to eliminate the threat: just one is enough
The other thing about Dave’s rants about regime change was a restoration of the monarchy. Except that it’s neither Israel nor the US who is promoting that: it’s those Iranians themselves. While the Shah is pretty popular, it’s not clear that he has >50% support in Iran even just among the anti-regime, and even he’s said that he doesn’t want to head any government, but just wants to help Iran transition to a post islamic regime society that is secular and democratic
In the meantime, however, Dave Smith seems to have a problem w/ any attempt to overthrow this regime: not only if it’s done by the US or Israel, but even if it is done by the Iranian people. Actually, he had a debate w/ Elica Le Bon, an Iranian activist lawyer, so he obviously thinks that just like Saddam and the Taliban should not have been overthrown, neither should the Ayatollah. It seems like the reason that he’s mad at Trump is the Iranian regime being weakened to the point that they can be overthrown: who does the overthrowing is immaterial as far as he goes
Also, on the quote of Tulsi Gabbard where she confirmed that there was no intel that the Ayatollah had authorized the resumption of the nuke program that he suspended in 2003, she went on to continue that in the past year, they’ve seen that Iran’s enriched uranium levels are at their highest levels and unprecedented for a state w/o nukes. Given those details, people in the media are probably lying when they mention her being shut out of intel meetings or her being distanced from Trump on this issue. Particularly when no decision has been taken on what the US would do
Finally, Dave Smith looked like he took Tucker’s ridiculous talking points from a couple of days ago, when the latter told Ted Cruz that in response to the info that Iran was trying to assassinate Trump, Tehran deserved to be nuked. Not even the most hawkish neocon ever has advocated that, and also, the idea that Trump is anything like Bush 43 who wanted to “avenge” his father is ludicrous. Dave also shows himself as a virulent antisemite when he claims that Israel is our proxy, while claiming that according to the pro-war crowd, any shi’a w/ a gun is an Iran proxy. Also, he was wearing a t-shirt w/ “Libertarian” on it: what could be a more total opposite of Libertarian than islam?
I might have agreed some w/ David Smith had he simply said that he didn’t want a war, or didn’t want us to even help take out Fordow. But he’s opposed to the islamic regime collapsing, even if pulled off by the Iranian people, rather than the Israelis. Which makes him one of the most putrid commentators on this issue, w/ Tucker not far behind

Be aware of what will happen if the US bombs the Iran nuclear sights: Iran will attack the US ships, which will lead Trump into full war against Iran. Iran will close the Straight of Hormuz, where 20% of the worlds oil passes through. Oil will go to over $200 a barrel, the US economy will tank, & the Iranian sleeper cells already inside the US will be activated.

Agreed, David M. There is a good chance all that will happen, and even worse. For now the worst that might happen is that Iran already has a nuke, or more than one, and/or a “dirty bomb” and they use it.
What will happen when they have dozens of nukes, and ICBM capability? We can clearly see they have fairly accurate shorter range ballistic missiles.
In their minds, they are to bring about “death to America” as a sanctified mission from Allah. We have seen their “not negotiable” posturing; we have seen them burying their centrifuges in normally impenetrable bunkers; they have redundant nuclear facilities spread out over Iran, we have seen their public and governmental hatred expressed openly and often; and much more.
To my mind even if we take out all their sites, but the current Islamic regime survives, they will continue on this path.
No happy options against this evil.

They moved the centrifuges from the bunkers before the B 52’s came because they had several days notice it was going to happen. As Robert says, now we will see what happens next.
