On Friday, I wrote about Yuval Raphael, the girl who is this year’s Israeli entrant in the Eurovision Contest. I wrote about those who full of anti-Israel venom would be heckling her as she sang, and in other ways try to make her appearance difficult. Dov Berrol added this comment:
Yuval survived the October 7 terrorist attack on the Nova Music Festival. She hid in a roadside shelter that eventually was attacked by more terrorists from Gaza. She played dead under the dying bodies of her friends until she was rescued 8 hours later. She entered Israel’s “Hakochav Haba” television competition with no previous background in public singing. She won the competition and her prize was to represent Israel in this week’s Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
I ended my piece with the following paragraph:
The pro-Hamas, and therefore pro-genocide, protesters — there are about 150 of them at the event — are trying to hound Raphael from appearing, or if that doesn’t work, to so upset her during her singing that she won’t be able to perform at her best. Neither will happen. Yuval Raphael has been preparing to sing through their boos. I predict that Yuval Raphael will not only remain splendidly undisturbed by their expressions of spittle-flecked hate, but will come away very close to, or even at, the top.
And she did. She came in second. Bravo, Ms. Raphael.

At international singing competitions, the top 5 or so have such minuscule differences in their respective performances so as to be imperceptible to us regular folk in the audience. She was definitely top notch, and she will go far in her singing career.

Yuval Raphael. What a hero! No amount of words suffice to honor her! Tough as nails and beautiful to boot.
Singer Song Contest in Base
She played “dead” on Oct. 7 but at the Eurovision Song Contest in Base, she stood up Israel proud against hamas supporters who were heckling her as she sang! She sang beautifully in their hamas hateful ugly faces and took Second Place!
This lady is a winner over and over.
If there is anything like a Time magazine in Israel which features Person of the Year her only competition are all the members of the IDF. Maybe a split page honoring both would be appropriate.

Congratulations to this young lady and Israel. This western nation believes in peace and modernity and is fighting off the jihadist hordes at every turn!

This young lady is incredible. It’s no wonder she won the popular vote worldwide. People like positivity and resilience and naturally recoil from negativity and ugly hatred.

Yuval Raphael:
A really great voice that almost got snuffed out on October 7th, 2023.

Thank you Hugh, for your support of this strong, brave, talented Israeli. Congrats also go to the amazing Keren Peles who wrote the uplifting lyrics and composed the music. The optimism of the song reminds me of the optimism of Israel’s national anthem Hativka – “The Hope”.

Way to go, Yuval Raphael! Haters gonna hate, so ignore them.
