UK: Jewish protester charged for mocking Hizballah

Contemporary Britain couldn’t possibly be satirized. It is already so ridiculous that it has itself gone beyond the ridiculousness that would be necessary for satire. At this point, it could impose full Sharia any time, and its government would hardly act much differently from how it acts now.

“Jewish protester charged over placard mocking terrorist leader,” by Janet Eastham, Telegraph, May 23, 2025:

A Jewish protester was arrested by the Metropolitan Police after he briefly held a placard satirising a Hezbollah terrorist leader, The Telegraph can reveal.

The British man, who has asked to remain anonymous for his safety, was detained and charged last September over a cartoon that showed Hasan Nasrallah, the Lebanese terror chief, with a pager and the words “beep, beep, beep”.

The placard satirised a targeted Israeli attack, dubbed Operation Grim Beeper, in which explosives in pagers and walkie-talkies killed 42 people, mostly Hezbollah terrorists. Nasrallah survived, but was killed in an air strike a week later.

During questioning, police repeatedly asked the man – who was part of a counter-demonstration against a pro-Palestinian march – if he believed the image would offend “clearly pro-Hezbollah and anti-Israel” activists.

Hezbollah is a terror group, which is proscribed in the UK….

The Telegraph also uncovered the case of Julian Foulkes, a retired special constable, who was wrongly cautioned by Kent Police for warning about the threat of anti-Semitism in Britain….

    • Mahmood describes herself as a “devout Muslim”, and says, “My faith is the centrepoint of my life and it drives me to public service, it drives me in the way that I live my life and I see my life.”

      Sounds as though it also drives her to oppress those who dare oppose Jihad terror…

  7. A report a few days ago, after the one in the Telegraph telling of the charges, said the police had overstepped and charges were dropped.

    • But not before the thought police had searched his house looking for the placard. They couldn’t find it because it wasn’t his, it belonged to someone else.

    • Some good news there the charges were dropped, still it should not be forgotten what they are trying to get away with. As Ted Nugent says, you have to shine a spotlight on cockroaches, they will run away when you do. It’s still a declaration of the tyranny they are trying to bring in.

  13. “Veteran gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell ‘arrested for anti-Hamas sign’”

    “The veteran human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell was arrested for carrying an anti-Hamas slogan during a pro-Palestine protest.

    The 73-year-old said the incident was “yet another” example of the police “abusing their powers to suppress freedom of expression”.

    Mr Tatchell, best known for his pioneering role in the gay rights movement, said he was detained at a march in London on May 17 while holding a sign that read: “Stop Hamas executions.”
    He claimed that officers pulled him out of the march and told him the sign represented a “racially and religiously aggravated breach of the peace”.

    The Australian-born activist has been supporting the Palestinian cause for the past five decades.

    He said he attended the march as he wanted to support calls for a ceasefire while also calling out Hamas’s execution of protesters and critics in Gaza.

    On the placard, Mr Tatchell highlighted the case of Odai Al-Rubai, a 22-year-old Gazan man who was beaten with metal bars before his body was dragged through the streets and dumped outside his family home.

    Mr Tatchell told The Telegraph that before his arrest a “handful” of pro-Palestine protesters had confronted him over the sign in an “aggressive, threatening and intimidating” manner.

    He said: “Some people told me to f— off, others called me Zionist scum, all while the police stood by and did nothing.”
    Mr Tatchell said he was later confronted by Metropolitan Police officers after Palestine Solidarity Campaign stewards complained that he was chanting: “Hamas are terrorists.”

    Mr Tatchell told the officers he was not chanting or using that phrase and pointed out that his sign read: “Stop Israel Genocide! Stop Hamas Executions!”

    He said he was then accused of being part of a counter-protest despite making it clear to the officers he was in solidarity with the pro-Palestine marchers.

    Mr Tatchell said he was pulled out of the march and arrested on suspicion of a racially and religiously aggravated breach of the peace under the Public Order Act.

    Police ‘abusing’ their powers
    He was arrested and had his fingerprints, DNA sample and photograph taken, before being released after five and a half hours.

    Mr Tatchell said: “This is another example of the way the police are abusing their powers to suppress freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest.”
    He added: “The arresting officers must face disciplinary action. My arrest was a massive waste of police resources and taxpayers’ money on trumped-up charges.

    “Police allege that my placard was a ‘racially and religiously aggravated breach of the peace’ and that I had violated a Section 14 order. That is nonsense. My placard made no mention of anyone’s race or religion.”
    A Met Police spokesman said that Mr Tatchell had been arrested in “error” and had been released without charge.

    The force said that officers had acted in “good faith based on the information they had at the time” but it would review the handling of the incident.

    ‘Not in breach of any conditions’
    The spokesman added: “Mr Tatchell was initially detained after concerns were raised with officers by stewards from the Palestine Coalition protest.

    “Officers spoke with him and, believing him to be a counter protester, directed him to join the counter protest in its designated area. When he attempted to rejoin the Palestine Coalition protest he was arrested on suspicion of breaching the conditions in place and to prevent a breach of the peace.

    “While officers were acting in good faith based on the information they had received at the time, we now understand that Mr Tatchell was legitimately participating in the Palestine Coalition protest and was not in breach of any conditions.

    “He was released from custody at the earliest opportunity once officers realised that an error had been made. He will face no further action.

    “We will review our handling of the incident to fully understand what took place.”

    A spokesperson for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) said: “PSC did not make any complaint to the police about Peter Tatchell and we are not aware of any of the stewards making a complaint to any police officer.”

  18. “The prosecution of a man who burned a copy of the Koran outside the Turkish consulate is an attempt to revive blasphemy laws, a court has heard.

    Hamit Coskun is accused of posing a threat to public order after setting fire to the holy book in London on Feb 13 in what he saw as a peaceful protest.

    At the start of his trial at Westminster magistrates’ court, the 50-year-old’s lawyers argued that prosecutors were “seeking to introduce a law unknown to this land, namely blasphemy in relation to Islam”.

    Mr Coskun is accused of carrying out disorderly behaviour “within the hearing or sight of a person likely to have caused harassment, alarm or distress” by burning a copy of the Koran.

    It is further alleged he held it aloft while shouting “f— Islam” and “Islam is religion of terrorism”, and was motivated by hostility towards members of a religious group, namely followers of Islam.

    Mr Coskun, who is of Armenian-Kurdish descent, denies the offences and argues he was entitled to burn the Koran and make critical comments about Islam under Article 10 of the Convention of Human Rights.

    Katy Thorne KC, for Mr Coskun, argued that the prosecution was an abuse of process and should be stayed, adding: “We submit that this is an attempt by the prosecution, to reintroduce and develop an offence of blasphemy.”

    • “Ms Thorne said in her written argument: “To render such an act a criminal offence is tantamount to reintroducing a blasphemy law in relation to Islam, rendering the Koran a specially protected object in the UK, where a flag or another book would not be, and rendering trenchant or offensive criticism of Islam a criminal offence, is also akin to reinstating an offence of blasphemy.

      “People must be free to exercise their religious or non-religious beliefs and to manifest those beliefs in whatever non-violent way they choose, and any curtailing by the state of that freedom must be absolutely necessary in a democratic society.”

      Lawyers for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) insisted that Mr Coskun was not being prosecuted for setting fire to the Koran.

      Philip McGhee, for the CPS, said: “He is being prosecuted for his disorderly behaviour in public.”

      The attorney argued that since the laws against blasphemy were abolished in this century in England, Wales and Scotland, this trial was an effort to bring them back to protect islim against criticism
