Now Indian social media is trending with calls to #BoycottTurkey, including in tourism — where cancellations to destinations in Turkey are already at 22%. Another product being boycotted is marble. “Turkey is India’s biggest supplier of marble.”
“India’s exports to Turkey stood at $5.2 billion during Apr-Feb 2024-25” and at “$6.65 billion in 2023-24.” Enmity with India is bad news for Turkey, given its already shaky economy.
Turkey’s economy took a beating in March, after Turkey’s arbitrary arrest of Erdogan’s popular political opponent for 2028 elections, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Stocks and the value of Turkey’s currency have plummeted after Imamoglu’s arrest.
“Although Erdogan is now desperately trying to calm the market turmoil,” supporting his jihadist brothers in Pakistan will take his country on a rough ride. How far he’s willing to go to support Pakistan is uncertain. Should the war between India and Pakistan drag on, he may be forced to backtrack in order to rescue his country’s own economy and political future.

After Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Turkish leader for his “strong support and unwavering solidarity” for Pakistan and praised the “brotherly ties” between the two countries, Erdogan voiced similar comments on social media.

I guess better late than never? I was appalled all these years at Indians – not all of them muslims – making Turkey a key tourist & honeymoon destination. Finally, they’ve started pulling the plug on such trips, and some of them have switched to Greece
In the meantime, the public outrage against Turkey is so high that even the Indian government – normally happy to suck up to islamic countries – has finally canned a Turkish airport services operator Çelebi, which was handling operations at 9 Indian airports. Other companies can now bid for this work

Speaking of which, Greece is the sudden beneficiary of all that lost tourism to Turkey. Like I mentioned above, it never made sense to me why any Hindu should want to go to Turkey, or any other islamic country, but at least now, w/ Turkey having sold Pakistan the drones they used to attack India last week, there is a backlash and calls for a boycott. As well as heavy criticism of Modi for giving Turkey aid during their earthquake some years ago
