Trump and Qatar: The Blame Falls Mainly on the Plane

Trump is in the Middle East, drumming up investment for the country and for himself. It’s the “for himself” that is so worrisome. The Saudis have now agreed to spend more than $142 billion on the most advanced American weaponry over the next four years. Do we know, are we certain, that Saudi Arabia will never use such weaponry in a pan-Arab attack on Israel? Or that some of that weaponry might fall into the hands of Muslim terror groups?

Saudi Arabia has promised to invest a total of $600 billion, including the arms sales, in the United States over the next four years. Determined to go the Saudis one better, the UAE has pledged to invest $1.4 trillion in the U.S. over the next ten years. Of course, such long-term commitments to invest can always be reduced or even halted altogether, if the Americans behave in a way that the Saudis or the Emiratis do not like. Suppose the Americans agreed with Israel that a “two-state solution” is neither viable nor acceptable, for it would require the Jewish state to be squeezed back within the now-indefensible 1949 armistice lines, with a nine-mile-wide waist from Qalqilya to the sea, in order to create a 23rd Arab state, and that state would exist as a launching pad for a future strike against Israel. Something to worry about. Would the Saudis or the Emiratis halt their investments? Or would the mere threat of such a halt make Washington less solicitous of Israel’s minimal security needs?

Of course, the Trump family has made out like gangbusters with their Arab friends in the Gulf. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and advisor, has persuaded the Saudis to invest $2 billion in his private equity firm. One more way to win favor with Trump himself. In the meantime, Eric Trump, who runs the Trump Organization, was in Saudi Arabia two weeks ago for the launch of two new projects with Dar Global, a Saudi developer: a high-rise Trump hotel tower that will have the world’s highest pool, and a sprawling Trump golf course with villas in Doha, Qatar. That’s in addition to other Trump towers and projects underway in Saudi Arabia and Oman. In Saudi Arabia, the Trump Organization and Dar Global are together developing luxury residential towers in Riyadh and Jeddah. In the UAE, the Trump Organization operates the Trump International Club, and has announced plans for a new Trump-branded tower. Qatar is set to announce up to $300 billion in deals, including a $2 billion drone purchase and a major aircraft order from Boeing. Gulf airlines belonging to Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait are together expected to pledge nearly $3 trillion in major accords, according to the UAE-based Gulf News.

The Trump Organization stands to make tens of billions of dollars from all these Trump Towers and golf courses.

Finally, the Trump family’s cryptocurrency venture, called World Liberty Financial, was co-founded by Zack Witkoff, whose father is Steve Witkoff, is Trump’s special envoy to the Mideast. A few days ago, an Abu Dhabi firm used World Liberty’s stablecoin to close a $2 billion investment into the crypto exchange, Binance.

And then there is The Plane. This is the $400-million plane that the Al-Thani family of waddling emirs in Qatar wants to give, as a token of its esteem, to Donald Trump. Trump has said he thinks it would be “stupid” to turn down such an offer, but it would, in truth, be catastrophic if he were to accept it.

Here’s why:

First, Qatar is not just any country, but the country that has been of most help, along with Iran, to the terror group Hamas, not only supplying money and weapons, but also providing refuge for Hamas’ top leaders, including the late Ismail Haniyeh and Khaled Meshaal. It is not a friend, but an enemy of the US. What will America’s allies and enemies think if Trump were to accept the plane? Hamas would misapprehend the acceptance of the plane, and feel its position improved if America accepts such an expensive present from Qatar. In the Arab view, the gift of the plane should buy Qatar American indulgence for its ties to Hamas. Israel, of course, will be horrified that Trump would accept such a present from the main supporter of Hamas.

Second, there is a security problem. This plane could not be used as Air Force One — which is apparently Trump’s intention — without it being thoroughly taken apart and inspected for hidden bugs. Security officials have said that to be thorough, that investigation could take years. But even if it finally were to pass the most rigorous of inspections, how will our allies react? Do you think Israel could share its greatest secrets with Trump, knowing that there is a non-trivial chance that bugs on his plane could extract that information, and share it with Israel’s mortal enemies? No ally would want to share secrets, because even if the administration were to give the plane a clean bill of health, they still can’t be sure, and that gnawing doubt would cause them to withhold information they would otherwise provide.

Third, there is personal enrichment. Trump says he would use the plane as a substitute for Air Force One, which could then be pulled off service for repairs. At the end of his presidency, Trump has said, ownership of the plane would be transferred to his Presidential Library foundation. But isn’t that a benefit to Trump himself, providing his library with a $400-million plane to do with as it likes, including selling it to obtain money for the library which, like all presidential libraries, will be a monument to the president in question, in this case — himself?

Fourth, if he accepts the plane, he will be providing grist for the Democrats’ mill; his political enemies will have been handed a potent weapon; they will continually bring up this unjust enrichment of Trump by Qatar, which through its dealings with Hamas has been a notorious state sponsor of terrorism. Is this what Trump wants?

Fifth, there is one way that Trump could possibly accept the plane. That is, he could accept it as long as it was clearly understood by everyone that it cannot be used as Air Force One. He need not add “for security reasons,” because that would anger the Qataris, implying — correctly — that they are not to be trusted. Instead, he could accept the plane  “for the use of the American people.” The plane could be put in service in other ways, acceptable to all. It might, for example, be used to transport humanitarian aid to crisis areas which, as of now, would include Sudan, Gaza, and Ukraine. Who could object to that?

  1. I voted for Trump. The alternative was unthinkable. It is still unthinkable. He was the only Conservative pit firth. In our celebrity driven culture he was the only one who could garner the nomination. The signs were there when he presented Witkoff a geopolitical naif as his foreign policy emissary. What about the capable Marco Rubio. I was hopeful when Rubio was confirmed as Secretary of State. Now I realize it was in name only. Think of what makes Trump tick, gold, gold, and more gold. Sure he likes Israel, bit not as much as gold. Sure he wants to rd the universities of anti semitism, but at what cost? By making Witkiff, with whom he os competitive not only on the links but in terms of who the biggest real estate mogul is, and putting r forth old man Kishner as US ambassador to France he is reinforcing another anti Semetic trope: Jews control the world’s finances. Non of this angers well.

    • I was up all night on YouTube watching videos and reading the comments. It was shocking that conservative hosts were thrilled with what Trump has done with these “agreements.”

      Truly shocked and deeply disappointed at it all the selling the US to our greatest enemies and then reading the comments of the people calling these “deals” a sort of victory.

      Not only did Trump seal the fate of Israel but the US and the western world. It’s unimaginable that Trump has destroyed so much so quickly. He knew he was going to do this beforehand, which may be why he was walking around for over a week looking like a whole different man! It’s now also obvious WHY he didn’t crack down on the rest of those universities and slowed down his fight against the Islamic invasion throughout our nation.

      No wonder why he had that failed Witcoff in the position that mainly let Hamas terrorists free while too many hostages remained in Gaza. I could go on and on about Trump, whom I voted for and counted on to save us all.

      What other surprises about this “deal” will pop up. We don’t know them all right now.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc.) are buying and enriching our leaders to help ‘Islamize’ the West against all Non-Muslims as taught in Islam’s Quran(Quran 9:5, 29, 111 and more). Similarly, Muslims have already ‘Islamized’ our Western Universities against Israel, America, and ALL Non-Muslims to help gain ultimate power and control against us.

    Allah’s Islam, a Terrorist-Criminal Enterprise, and its predatory believers continually fund, promote, and practice ideological subversion, propaganda, bigotry, discrimination, deceit, supremacy, segregation, hatred, violence, and terrorism as taught in Islamic Law and in Islam’s Quran. Muslim actions should be legally challenged with a multi-faceted force of Western Laws like Muslims wield against Americans and Westerners because Islam violates USA Laws(Quran 9:5,29; 49:15; 60:4 and more).

    Like a Foreign Terrorist Organization(FTO) designated by the USA Secretary of State, Islam functions as a MUSLIM TERRORIST ORGANIZATION(MTO) fighting against Non-Muslims and NOT A PEACEFUL religion under Western Law because Islam funds, teaches, and promotes Terrorist Criminal Organizations with Muslims as Terrorists for Allah(Quran 9:5,29; 49:15 and more).

    Under Islam and Islamic Law, Muslims have the Legal Right and the Quranic Duty to terrorize Non-Muslims because neglecting this QURANIC DUTY is a Crime against tyrannical Allah. Jihad means warfare against Non-Muslims to ESTABLISH ISLAM’S RELIGION(Quran 3:151; 9:5, 29, 111; Muslim Law Manual: “Reliance of the Traveller”, o9.0 and more).

    More specifically, Islam, a terroristic-destructive way of life, is a Muslim Terrorist Ideology and Murderous, Criminal Enterprise of intolerance, continuous war, discrimination, segregation, supremacy, genocide, polygamy, propaganda, deceit, hatred, incitement, sedition, rape, terrorism, and violence against all Non-Muslims as taught in the Quran(Quran 2:208,216; 4:65, 89,95, 115; 5:14,64; 8:12,39,74; 9:5,21,29,36, 41,49, 73,88, 111,123; 21:92; 49:15; 60:4; 61:9-11; 89:14 and more).

  4. Isn’t the lack of a safer, newer, secure Air Force One a Boeing failure to complete a 2018 contract to build 2 new planes for $3.9 Billion? How many 747s were built in that 7 years for $3,900,000,000? Did old Joe say, “Don’t worry about it”, or did Boeing play the, “let’s drag it out and get more overrun bucks”, game?

    Either way, Trump should not accept the Qatari jet simply for security reasons, alone. Maybe just check any plug door bolts on AF1 and do some off-time parachute jumping for practice.

    Does anyone think Boeing will meet the new 2029 completion schedule? And this is how we bring industry back to the US?

    • Boeing has recently failed to deliver (and killed people) with their 737 Max, the 787 and Starliner. They failed to deliver improved safety standards. They said they couldn’t deliver the new Air Force One until 2030. When Trump objected, they offered to deliver in 2028, I suppose by compressing the test schedule (snerk). I’d take the Qatari plane. It hasn’t crashed yet.

    • It doesn’t look like it! What other surprises will pop up in what he has sold to Qataris – one of our greatest enemies. He says it will create jobs in the U.S., but who will they employ…more Muslims? Yep. Also, since when are the Saudis friendly with Qatar? They supposedly had a falling out years ago due to Qatars “terrorism support.” This whole thing stinks!

      Also, why do these nations need “advanced weapons’ and what will they get for that money? Has Trump agreed to sell them the nuclear weapons? I heard that there have been bidding wars to build a nuclear plant for ABU DAI. If this is true then Saudi is going to have them too and Qatar as well. What about the AI, robots, and crypto?

      This may go down in history as the biggest Islamic buy (Bribe) ever perpetrated in front of the world. It doesn’t matter that they’re paying for it with money they SIT on.

    the mayor of Nashville, TN is all out of sorts because the TN Highway guys and ICE arrested nearly 200 illegals (you guys should see some of the faces of those arrested), most of whom had committed serious, a.k.a. felonies, crimes.     But the mayor is all upset about the arrests.

    So, make the mayor and those dems from NJ even more upset by using the plane to deport.

    All those *deals* by his family members….none hidden, evidently….make him look somewhat like biden and son.

  10. I’m getting tired of the excuses of decent people that are made for trump. Trump knows exactly what he does. It’s still the good cop bad cop story. Trumps 4 year vacation before he returned was part of the plan. Biden had to come so people would hunger for trump more. I pay attention to detail and have a good memory. I don’t remember every fine point but remember the punchlines. I know that trump in his first term went out of the way to stop any election reform by those whose job is to do that on the federal level. It’s all a show.
    Trump made 50 Billion Dollars in one day by insider trading by his tarriff/stock market game. Few aware of this. There is video of trump excited that Klaus Schwab made 2.5 Billion Dollars in one day. He stated that as example that money can be made by his actions by anyone
    I think trump with a different style and actions in the end will be ten times more horrible than Biden when all is finished.
    Even trump doings that in their face seem quite good, few look at what horror comes off of that good down the road.
    I think he is evil and does not love america or Israel. He has to have a cover.
    On Israel, trump knows God protects Israel, but God allows some damage and hurt to Israel to get it’s people where he wants them spiritually. Trump will test how far God will let him do his thing.
    What I wrote will be unpopular but in a year I think that will be reversed and understood.

    • While concerned with what Hugh Fitzgerald has written in this article, I find your assessment of Trump to be ludicrous. On the specific matter of election reform, you are just plain wrong about Trump who has wanted very sensible things such as voter ID and an end to ballot harvesting. It is the Democratic Party which is against real integrity in the voting process.

  11. Selling all that weaponry to Saudi Arabia now is worrysome. It was one thing 5 years ago, when the Saudis were being threatened by Iran. But during Biden, Riyadh and Teheran signed a treaty that was brokered by Beijing, and so those 2 countries are no longer at loggerheads. Even the Houthis have not touched the Saudis at all: they had exclusively been attacking either international Red Sea shipping (hurting Egypt in the process) or Israel

    This looks like a repeat of US arms sales to Cairo. In the 1980s, that made perfect sense, since under President Sadat and then Mubarak, Egypt was being threatened by Gadaffi’s Libya and Hafez al-Assad’s Syria, both of them mad at Cairo for the Camp David Accords. But since the bombing of Libya in 1986, and particularly after Gadaffi made peace w/ the West in 2004 or thereabouts, Egypt has been under no external threat. All their threats are internal, and they hardly need the sort of weaponry that they have been buying to combat either the islamic state in the Sinai, or the muslim brotherhood in Egypt proper. Just arming their police & paramilitary forces would be pretty adequate

    Looks like the same thing is developing in Saudi Arabia. Now, at one level, it’s not concerning, since everybody knows that the Saudis don’t have a military to write home about. In 1990, they were wetting their pants when Saddam occupied Kuwait, and a few years ago, they were stunned when the Houthis started hitting targets at Riyadh Airport. From what I’ve heard, they buy these expensive toys, and b’cos they are so expensive, they don’t quite want to use them (maybe unless it’s American pilots manning them). That said, if for any reason, MbS is ousted any time in the future and is replaced by a more jihad-minded member of the al-Sauds, such a ruler could turn that weaponry against Israel. Just like President al-Sisi could, if he gets enough confidence from Erdogan, to whom Cairo has recently become uncomfortably close

    As for the plane, I just hope that in the end, it does not go through. I’m not too worried about the Qataris inserting bugs, unless that plane was made in China and then sold to Qatar. It’s not like the Qataris are major experts in cryptographic & other such security and spying devices: they are just what they can buy, which is a lot, given the per capita income of that country

    • I recall the terrorist attack in which Sadat was killed. It’s that easy, indeed. I agree with you infidel, but, having said that, the insurgents wouldn’t have the manpower, or the skills to use all this bling bling. How are the Afghanis doing with all their US weaponry?

      • Oh, I agree. In the just concluded air battle b/w India & Pakistan, India’s S400s did a fine job against both Pakistan’s F16s and JF41s. If the personnel of the country that’s gotten the weapons doesn’t know how to use them, they are effectively worthless. At least until completely autonomous weapons becomes the order of the day

        The Pakis just sunk the reputation of not just their Chinese and Turkish toys, but also their F16s. Whereas India probably made the company that made the S-400 SAMs swell w/ pride, as well as their own Brahmos missiles. Who uses all that glorified weaponry matters about as much as the weapons themselves. At least until AI and Autonomous Systems take over their operations

    • How is thinking that taking “gifts” from Islamic dictatorships is a bad idea “weak”? There is much that I like about Trump, but he understands little about Islam. And recall that he excoriated cartoonists for daring to draw Muhammed, and blamed Robert Spencer and the artists for the Jihad terror attack in Garland.

  14. The way I see it is as follows. There are two factors driving Dump: maga and deals. The deals he is presently making to him are the epitomy of maga. He even made a deal with Iran, I understand, in which they promise not to make weapon grade uranium. But all of these deals compromise the US to the max, because of the size. They give a handle to the barbarians to muscle the US into doing what they say, ‘or else…’. So maybe these things may maga, but it will leave us, the citizens, out in the cold dar al harb. These deals truly suck. And I’m not beyond calling Dump corrupt. At the very least he is ‘in the bag’, as they say.

  19. The Trump administration should not accept the Qatar 747. Countries, generally, do not give something away without expecting something in return. And it could be bugged.

    Perhaps the Airbus 350-1000 should be considered as a temporary alternative to the 747.
