I have no idea what he meant by “good terrorists” and “bad terrorists”. Unless he was distinguishing b/w terrorists from Pakistan, vs homegrown jihad terrorists within Kashmir itself. But yeah, there is a thin line b/w the Paki army, vs jihad groups like Jaish e Mohammed, Lashkar e Toiba…..
I agree w/ Robert that Pakistan should have been quarantined long ago. Only thing – the criteria on which that would be done would then also apply to other countries that bankroll jihad in more significant ways – Qatar, Turkey, pre-MBS Saudi Arabia and so on.
If Pakistan were singled out just b’cos they can’t bribe their way out of it, what sort of a message would that send?
On the question of Pakistan’s allegiance to China, that is unavoidable, given Beijing’s own hostility to India: they just renamed an Indian state – Arunachal Pradesh – to “Zangnan” and a bunch of places in that state to Chinese names (It would be like the US renaming Sevastopol to Trump Beach or India renaming Hunan to Ramavati). Beijing is not gonna stop supporting Islamabad given that they both regard India as an enemy. In fact, that is a part of the reason India is a part of Quad – the 4-nation alliance against China by the US, Japan, Australia and India. So there are some countries that the US has to write off as potential allies, and Pakistan is a big one. Also, Beijing has managed to isolate the Uyghurs from the rest of the ummah, so I’m not sure that they are really being short-sighted: they’re really pulling a fast one on the OIC
Does Pakistan have over 170 nukes? That’s news to me: I thought that both India and Pakistan have only a few. The only countries that have nukes in very significant numbers are the US, Russia and China: I doubt that even France, let alone Britain, has too many. I’m not sure that what Israel did to Iran can be emulated w/ Pakistan, given that they are much further down the line in terms of owning nukes (even if I doubt the 170 number)
About the West ignoring Pakistan’s rogue behavior in order to do a geopolitical balancing act b/w India & Pakistan, it’s pretty stupid. Unlike Israel, which has no love lost w/ Putin, India has been a very strong ally of Russia for the last 11 years, and such moves will only drive them more into the Moscow camp. Only leverage the US has w/ India is the Quad alliance, but the more it indulges Pakistan, the less India would cooperate w/ Quad, leaving US interests in the Indian Ocean region pretty precarious
On the Paki claim on Kashmir that it is islamic land, all of India is, and muslims both within India and in Pakistan and Bangladesh are now more brazen about it. That’s why you see attacks on Hindus in India who just speak out against, not islam, but Pakistan, be it on social media or on the streets. Ashlyn has noted cases where Hindu kids in India who shouted slogans against Pakistan got assaulted, or worse.
P.S. India should either officially change its name to Bharat, or hold a nationwide referendum asking people what the name of the country should be, before people start using the term “Bharat” to refer to India while speaking in English. Other countries have officially done that, and are now called by those names, like Swaziland to Eswatini or Upper Volta to Burkina Faso. Bharat is what they call the country in most Indian languages, but that’s not the convention in English so far. Until they do that, I never use the term “Bharat” while speaking in English, unless I’m discussing this very issue

The only place where “one man’s terrorist is another man’s soldier” applies is within Islam. That phrase has been bastardized into calling guerrilla troops attacking military targets “terrorists” while completely ignoring the fact that jihad terrorism is DEFINED by attacks on civilians.
There’s a huge difference between striking terror into the heart of the enemy combatants and terrorism against civilian infrastructure and non-combatants. Muslims actually practice both when involved in a true conflict or war. They will use truck bombs, human shields, and suicide attacks in a battle just as they would against a civilian target. In those cases, I’d consider them a separate form of terrorism more akin to the pre-modern definition of the past. More guerrilla than jihadi in my opinion.
We MUST insist on defining the clear difference between typical jihad terrorism and it’s guerrilla warfare counterpart. If not, we risk obfuscating the true threat of jihad terrorism and allowing the same inversion of language that we’ve seen in the Gaza conflict. Militaries cause collateral damage and frequently kill civilians. But that’s very different than true terrorism.

They would support all sorts of Marxist groups, like the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, ANC in South Africa, SWAPO in Namibia and various Marxist militias in Latin America – all of which were terrorist organizations – as freedom fighters. islam is not alone in this regard
Jihad is rising because the non-Muslims are acting weak.
