Pope Francis wills popemobile to ‘children in Gaza’

Pope Francis bequeathed one of his popemobiles to the Gaza Strip, to be repurposed to a mobile health clinic for children, Vatican media reported on Sunday.

The popemobile, which was used by the pontiff during his visit to the Palestinian Authority territories in Judea and Samaria in 2014, will carry vaccines, suture kits, rapid tests for infections and other life-saving supplies, the Vatican News reported.

The head of the Catholic Church made it one of his last wishes in the months before he died, the report added.

The pope, who died on April 21, entrusted the modification of the vehicle and handling of its shipment to Gaza to Catholic aid organization Caritas Jerusalem.

The converted vehicle will be staffed by doctors and paramedics, reaching Gazan children once humanitarian access to the Strip is restored, the Vatican News reported.

“This is a concrete, life-saving intervention at a time when the health system in Gaza has almost completely collapsed,” Secretary-General of Caritas Sweden Peter Brune was cited as saying.

“With the vehicle, we will be able to reach children who today have no access to health care—children who are injured and malnourished,” he added.

The popemobile is “a message that the world has not forgotten about the children in Gaza,” Brune said.

According to Vatican News, Caritas Jerusalem is tasked with manning the vehicle, “building on the Pope’s legacy of compassion and strength whilst bringing his final blessing to the people of Gaza.”

Anton Asfar, secretary-general of Caritas Jerusalem, said, “This vehicle represents the love, care and closeness shown by His Holiness for the most vulnerable, which he expressed throughout the crisis.”

Francis voiced scathing criticism of Israel during the Swords of Iron war in Gaza, which was initiated by thousands of Hamas-led terrorists who invaded the Jewish state on Oct. 7, 2023, murdered 1,200 people and abducted 251 more into the Palestinian enclave.

“And with pain, I think of Gaza, of so much cruelty, of the children being machine-gunned, of the bombings of schools and hospitals. What cruelty,” the pontiff said after a prayer service in December 2024.

Francis further drew a rebuke from the Israeli government after he accused the Israel Defense Forces of attacking babies in Gaza. “This is cruelty,” the head of the Catholic Church said. “This is not war.”

The Israeli Foreign Ministry stated at the time, “In response to the pope’s statement today: Cruelty is terrorists hiding behind children while trying to murder Israeli children. Cruelty is holding 100 hostages for 442 days, including a baby and children, by terrorists, and abusing them.”…

    Who bought and paid for the “popemobile”? Was it really his to donate?

        “Pope Francis declined any sort of salary when he took office in 2013, The Economic Times reported back in February, adding that the pontiff at the time had a net worth of “around $16 million, which includes various assets provided to him as the pope.”

        He supposedly “declined a salary,” but evidently that didn’t keep him from getting lots as pope.

          The little babies and children in Africa could have used a mobile clinic to treat the injuries done to them by the marauding mozlums.

No concern the Christian children now in the hands of their mothers’ and fathers’ killers. Where is their inheritance?

        • Any suffering in Gaza is entirely the fault of Hamas and those who support Hamas, just as any suffering by German civilians in WWII due to Allied bombing of Germany was entirely the fault of Hitler and his fellow Nazis. Sometimes, as Winston Churchill observed, civilization must take drastic measures to save civilization from the forces of anti-civilization and the blame for this is entirely with the forces of anti-civilization.

          You won’t get this, Edmund Carrey, but then there is so much you do not “get.” Ditto for the recently deceased Pope who made excuse after excuse for Islam while never condemning the slaughter of Christians by Muslims in Africa and elsewhere.

  10. When the Son of Man returns and begins to “separate people as a shepherd separates the sheep and goats,” on which side will this pope be told to get by the One he pretended to represent?

    Jesus makes His decisions for each one based on how they treated His “brothers.” When did the pope do anything to help Christ’s “brothers”? No cups of water when they were thirsty, no bread when they were hungry, no visiting in prison, no clothing when they had none, no medicine or doctor when they were sick.
    Not even a kind word or encouragement. Just put-downs, blasting with blame, frowns and slaps on the hands.

    • GE: No, none at all for the persecuted Christians in Nigeria, and in microcosm how the putrid Francis, a Latin American Leftist to the core, was arguably the worst Pope in history.

      At least other bad Popes (N.B., most Popes have been good and decent men) did not contravene Catholic doctrine; they were only personally corrupt in some way.

      But Francis went way beyond merely bad behavior (indeed, his sterling personal life only disguised his destructive doctrinal actions all the more) and entered into non-doctrinal land from a traditional Catholic point of view.

      Worst Pope of all time. Easy call here. And I fear he will be followed by an equally bad pontifex maximus.

      Perhaps an even worse man (we’ll see) because the traditional Roman Catholic Church is in death mode and those averring otherwise do not understand all the harm Vatican II (1962-1965) did to alter the Catholic Church for the worse. Francis serves as an example of how much damage Vatican II did, even if most Catholics remain clueless about this. Yes, Francis was far more a consequence, a symptom, of Vatican II than some kind of initiator.

      It is key to grasp all this because any analysis of the modern Roman Catholic Church, whether one is Catholic, a Protestant Christian or an Orthodox Christian—or belonging to another religion or to no religion—must take into account what the Second Vatican Council did to the Catholic Church, to the Christian world at large, to all of Western Civilization and to all of humanity. There is almost no way to overestimate how much destruction Vatican II did. The recently deceased Pope, a harmful fool to the core of his being, is evidence of this, Very solid evidence

        like to hear your thoughts/opinions on the damage it did, as it was a little before my time.

        As a Byzantine/Eastern Rite we always had our own hierarchy, traditions, etc. (which was good for us because imo, we are a lot more conservative than the Roman rite)

        • Vatican II, GE, did something extra stupid, i.e., it tried to fix something that wasn’t broken. I blame Pope John XXIII for this first and foremost for calling this unnecessary council.

          Among other idiocies, it destroyed the Latin Mass, asserted falsely that all religions have valid revelation from on high (e.g., Islam has none), allowed for liberation theology which stupidly and destructively tries to combine Christian teaching with Marxism, and in general opened the door to moral equivalency thinking. I would recommend reading the documents from Vatican II in order to understand just how much mischief it unleashed.

  21. This catholic leader is more concerned about the children of Gaza than he is his catholic flock. The overwhelming majority of migrants trying to get in to the USA are coming from majority catholic Latin American countries. Latin America religious percentages are 54 percent catholic 19 percent protestant. The USA is the opposite with 45 percent protestant 20 percent catholic. The catholic church really doesn’t care too much about his catholic flock. If the USA were to become majority catholic where would the people migrate to next? You can see why a majority of Americans are not really in to the pope.

    Africa and elsewhere won’t be getting any Popemobiles. And there will be Christians murdered by the religion of pieces. Of that…. one can be certain. Ant that doesn’t require prophecy, nor any great skills. And the Israeli’s will be criticized for not yielding enough of their lands, their people, no natter how generous they are.
