Hungary is among the very few EU nations that has held on to its values as a Christian liberal democracy. This includes opposition to open-door migration policies. As such, it supports the only democracy in the Middle East, Israel, and its unequivocal right to defend itself.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also previously condemned International Criminal Court (ICC) warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrest “and vowed Hungary would not honor it.”
Hungary’s withdrawal from the ICC “would make Hungary the only European Union member state that does not recognize the ICC’s authority.” Hungary also rightly called the arrest warrant “brazen, cynical and completely unacceptable.”
The Hungarian bill states:
Hungary firmly rejects the use of international organisations—in particular criminal courts—as instruments of political influence.”
Let’s hope Hungary set a precedent for other reasonable EU countries to follow. Unfortunately, there are not enough. They are mostly ruled by leftists who have a peculiar attraction to Islam and its pet causes at the expense of Israel’s interests.
The US, China, and Russia are not members of the ICC.
“Sa’ar thanks Hungary for ICC withdrawal: ‘Lost all moral credibility,’” YNet News, May 20, 2025:
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar welcomed Hungary’s approved decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court in The Hague (ICC). “The Court has lost all moral credibility in its zealousness to deny Israel’s basic right to defend itself. Thank you to Hungary and its Prime Minister Viktor Orban,”…
