Both tiny Israel and mighty India are victims of the same ideology: jihadism. The Muslims in Pakistan and the Muslims in “Palestine” share the same desire to harm the Infidels — Hindus and Jews, respectively. The terror groups that Pakistan’s military nurtures and arms — Jaish-e-Muhammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba — and then helps to cross into India to murder civilians are brothers under the skin to Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. One Israeli journalist, Zvika Klein, editor of the Jerusalem Post, has, in the light of the latest flareup between India and Pakistan, considered the natural alliance that India and Israel should forge. More of his observations can be found here: “Editor’s Notes: Hypocrisy of silence on Kashmir’s massacre and the West’s moral failure – comment,” by Zvika Klein, Jerusalem Post, May
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine this: Harvard Yard, spring 2025. After a brutal massacre of 26 innocent civilians by armed terrorists, students leap into action. Encampments spring up overnight. Social justice clubs organize teach-ins. Professors sign petitions. Placards demand “Justice for Kashmir,” “Stop Pakistani Terror,” and “From Pahalgam to the Hague.” The world responds in outrage. Western capitals condemn the attack. The UN convenes an emergency session. The media calls it what it is: a terror attack.
If only.
But that’s not the reality.
Because this time, the victims were Indian civilians – most of them Hindu – gunned down in cold blood by Pakistani terrorists in the scenic valley of Pahalgam, Kashmir. And suddenly, the world is quiet. No tents. No hashtags. No solidarity. No moral outrage.
The same voices that erupt when Israel defends itself against terror are silent now. The same campuses that turned into 24/7 protest zones after October 7 have nothing to say about April 22.
No vigils. No outrage. No headlines. Just silence.
On that day, Pakistani-backed terrorists opened fire on Indian tourists, killing 26 people – fathers, husbands, grandfathers, sons. A disabled woman had to crawl down a mountain to safety. A 20-year-old was grazed by a bullet while shielding his family. The killers asked victims to recite Islamic verses to prove they weren’t Hindu before executing them.
This is terrorism – pure and simple.
And yet, the West can’t seem to find its voice. When Hamas slaughtered Israelis on October 7, the world couldn’t decide whether to condemn the butchers or the butchered. Now, it can’t even muster confusion. Just silence.
On October 7, the West did condemn Hamas, but in a matter of weeks, that sympathy for Israel had dissipated, and once the IDF had been sent deep into Gaza, it was the Jewish state that received condemnation for its “aggression,” which in time metamorphosed into charges of “ethnic cleansing” and even “genocide.”
India, unlike many of its critics, didn’t stay silent. It responded. Within days, the Indian military launched targeted strikes across the Line of Control, destroying nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan. These weren’t random attacks – they were precise retaliations against known Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed training centers.
Pakistan, predictably, denied everything. Then claimed victimhood. Then escalated. Drone attacks, airspace closures, and threats of war followed. But the world still didn’t blink. No front-page outrage. No sanctions. No Nobel Prize winners calling for restraint.
We’ve seen this script before. Because we, as Israelis, live it every day.
India is Israel in this story. A democracy fighting for its citizens’ lives, accused of “escalating” simply by refusing to die quietly. And Pakistan, like Hamas, hides behind plausible deniability while exporting terror with impunity….
Pakistan has been supporting Muslim terrorism in India for a long time. In 1990, 150,000 Hindu Pandits (Brahmins) fled a Muslim-majority valley in Indian Kashmir after attacks by Muslim fanatics. Those fanatics were fully supported by Islamabad. Similarly, the November 2008 shooting and bombing attacks on various sites in Mumbai, that took place over four days, were committed by 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Islamic terror groups. And the December 2001 terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament in New Delhi was carried out by members of another Islamist group, Jaish-e-Muhammad, that was based in Pakistan. where it was free to train and arm itself without interference from the government.
Zvika Klein thinks that India has been as firm a friend to Israel as Israel has been to India. I’m not convinced. It is true that India buys a great many weapons from Israel, but that’s out of self-interest. Israeli weapons are first-rate, and cheaper than what the US and European powers have for sale. The key test of whether India will no longer hide its close relations with Israel, but proclaim it to the world, will be how India votes at the UN. The nadir of Indian-Israeli relations came in 1975, when India voted in favor of the infamous “Zionism is racism” resolution.
In recent years, however, India has been abstaining on votes concerning Israel. But is that really the most Israel should expect of India? India should prove its friendship, in the only way that makes sense, and vote in support of Israel, along with the US and another dozen states that consistently oppose the anti-Israel resolutions put to a vote, both at the General Assembly and at the Human Rights Council, where India has been a member for 16 of the UNHRC’s 18 years. The UNHRC has been particularly damaging to Israel. It has Agenda Item #7 on its permanent calendar, devoted to the “Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories.” India, when it is back on the UNHRC, should speak up for Israel. And should India be made a permanent member of the Security Council, as has been suggested would be fitting given its huge population, it should add its veto to that of the Americans on those endless anti-Israel resolutions, to demonstrate its solidarity with the Jewish state.
And then we can safely say, as Rick says to Captain Renault as they walk off together at Casablanca’s end, “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

If Modi and Netanyahu weren’t two ordinary ladies, they would invade Bangladesh and put Hasina in charge.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
First of all, Netanyahu has nothing to do w/ Bangladesh
Second, the perception that Hasina or her just banned Awami League was secular is a myth. Her father was a part of the attempted genocide of Hindus throughout Bengal during India’s partition in 1947, and even after the 1971 war, he reneged on promises to restore East Pakistani Hindus their properties. Then again, throughout their history, their party was in no way opposed to the islamization of their country, even while they locked Hindu votes and took them for granted (b’cos everyone else was worse)
Finally, Hindus were targets of pogroms every time there was an election or a change in government in Bangladesh, regardless of whether the Awami party came to power or was removed from it
From a standpoint of Bangladesh Hindus, it’s irrelevant whether or not statues of Mujib are demolished, or a highway named after him got renamed. What is needed – but impossible in a country where muslims are now >90% of the population – is a total crackdown on anti-Hindu activity
It’s one thing for Modi not to do anything to support Bangladesh Hindus. But what’s worse is his insistence on continuing to supply them w/ aid, as well as allowing millions of Bangladeshi muslims to live in various parts of India. Calling him a lady is an insult to ladies: he’s a complete eunuch, who needs to croak sooner rather than later

No. While most Hindus are pro-Jewish and pro-Israel, the same is not true about India. In fact, just after October 7th, a number of things stand out about what India did diplomatically:
⮞ India either voted against Israel in the UN on every occasion, or abstained. They voted in the UN General Assembly to recognize the non-existent state of “Palestine”, and in that regard, they are no different from the likes of countries like Spain, Ireland or Norway
⮞ India rejected repeated requests by Israel to declare Hamas a terrorist organization. Israel unilaterally declared Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist organizations, but India refused to respond in kind wrt Hamas, islamic jihad or any other group
⮞ India kept sending “humanitarian” supplies to Gaza, which Hamas intercepted and hijacked for their own purposes. For instance, on one occasion, jute sacks supposedly of Basmati Rice were discovered filled w/ bullets: obviously, Hamas swapped the rice for the bullets while continuing to transport them around
⮞ Indian foreign diplomats & security officials had been busy brownnosing the likes of every one of Israel’s (and India’s own) adversaries – Qatar, Turkey, “Palestine” and Iran. Pretty much giving countries like Saudi Arabia and Emirates the signal that it’s not interested in combating jihad against itself
⮞ On Iran, left to itself, India wanted to have normal trade relations w/ Iran, and during Obama, had a project to build a link from Turkmenistan and Afghanistan to Chabahar port, on the Strait of Hormuz. When Trump came to power and gave India a grace period to ramp down its oil purchases from Iran, India did so, but didn’t cut its support for the Chabahar project. However, Indian construction companies and others didn’t wanna incur US sanctions, so refused to bid on that project. Ultimately, Iran ended up awarding that project to Beijing. But if Indian companies had been willing to risk US sanctions, India would have happily participated
As I have been ranting over the last 2 years about how the BJP has been busy back-stabbing Hindus, this story of India’s relations w/ both Israel on one hand, and muslim-brotherhood backing regimes on the other, is the foreign manifestation of that. A genuine Hindu or pro-Hindu regime at Delhi would have befriended Israel, had a conditional friendship w/ Saudi Arabia & the Emirates, been an ally of both the US and Russia (particularly in terms of oil purchases, cutting off OIC members completely) and been hostile to countries like Qatar, Turkey, “Palestine” and Iran. Not to mention, it would have been more supportive of hapless Hindus from both Pakistan and Bangladesh. None of that has happened, and coupled w/ India’s anti-Hindu policies domestically, it’s obvious that the BJP is a virulently anti-Hindu party – and government
Sad thing is that the only political parties in India are anti-Hindu parties, only interested in appeasing muslims for votes, encouraging illegal muslim immigration, divvying up Hindus by caste by promoting quotas in education and jobs, having one set of laws for mosques/churches/gurudwaras/… and another for Hindu temples, the latter of which is all government controlled. So I don’t see a good ending to this under the current constitutional setup there
So bottom line answer to Hugh’s question: No, India won’t reciprocate. Hindus both within and outside India will continue to be overwhelmingly pro-Israel, whatever their other differences within the tent, but India, as a state, is a lost cause for Israel. They’d probably have better luck w/ a post regime Iran

Infidel,
With respect, I find it puzzling that the government of India is “anti-Israel” in a country where Hindus make up approximately 80% of the population.
I don’t doubt what you say, I just find it puzzling.

It is anti-Hindu as well, which would explain things

In one area of India, Hindus recently treated Christians much the same as mozlums treat Hindus, Jews and Christians.
Anyone with a moral compass will condemn terrorism, no matter the source.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
In India, there has been a genocide, but it is of Hindus in Manipur by Christians in that, and surrounding states: it has been running for the past 3 years, w/ the Indian government doing nothing about it. Much of North East India, which was never Christians, got Christianized over the last 4 decades, but they haven’t tolerated those Hindus who declined to convert
Elsewhere in India, there have been Christian missionaries who have been converting Hindus using fake Christian literature (such as showing Christ decked like, say, Vishnu, w/ 4 arms and in Vedic garb), and other organizations that have been converting those converts back
Also in India, this issue had been litigated in court, and their Supreme Court ruled that while people do have freedom of religion to practice whichever religion they want, that right doesn’t extend to the right to convert other people. To use a First Amendment analogy, it would be like insisting that someone’s right to free speech requires the right to make someone else agree w/ him/her
In India, Christians are the third biggest denomination, ahead of Indian-born faiths like Sikhism, Jainism and Buddhism. The originals are descendants of British and Portugese who intermarried w/ Indians, and remained there after 1947. There are no issues w/ them: the issues arise w/ missionaries who try to convert not muslims, but Hindus, to Christianity, and that too in a way to make them hostile to their former religious practices
somehistory says
On another thread a few days ago, I posted a report from Glenn Beck’s site which had evidence of a mob of 50 thousand Hindus gathering to eliminate Christians and after forcing a *conversion,* shouting “Death to Jesus.”
Preaching vs violence. True Christians *preach* and do not engage in rape, forced conversions nor murder.

Hi Infidel, I find it hard to believe what you write about missionaries without further proof.
I hope that what you wrote is not true because forced conversions are not fair / right. But if it is rrue, please come with evidence.

No wonder India is not such a great friend of Israel.

The bloody Partition of India (with the Muslims getting the best bits, for their Muslim-only / Muslim-dominant state/s), and the Partition of ‘Mandatory Palestine’ (with the Muslims immediately waging Jihad against the Jews to try to wipe out the tiny nascent Jewish state) took place at exactly the same time – 1948 – and for EXACTLY the same reasons.. Muslim megalomania and intransigence, Muslim irredentism, the Muslim lust ‘to dominate and not be dominated’ (in the words of Hassan al-Banna, one of the head honchos of the Muslim Brotherhood, ideological and institutional parent of Hamas).
All the (mostly Arab) Muslim lands surrounding Israel are now basically Judenrein (having expelled all or most of the ancient Jewish communities that, in those lands, predated the invention of Islam!….and they are wiping out all the other non-Islamic remnant indigenes, as well); Bangladesh and Pakistan (having fought a bloody war in the past, with **each other**!!!) are steadily wiping out all non-Islamic minorities that remained within their boundaries when they were created.
Meanwhile.. within Israel, and within India also, the Muslims who descend from those who remained within those states in 1948 – have flourished and multiplied… even though they whine and squeal incessantly about being victims of ‘discrimination’.
The parallels are striking.

India will be always with Israel. Nobody harms Jewish people in India. There was a synagogue only 300 feet from my residence. I lived there for 30 years and nobody knew it was a synagogue and not a church. Indian Hindus were discriminated by all Muslim govt until 2014 . That is the day India got real freedom. Still parts of India, I cannot live as a free Hindu. I am in USA but will not go to India until I feel safe as Hindu. There were only 6% Muslims in 1947 in India and today they are almost 30% and still claim discrimination.
israel should recruit soldiers from India and you will find many candidates loyal to israel
Ranga says
A very fine in-depth article!
India has been ruled by lefist parties for 90% of its time and as everyone here knows leftists keep pandering to islamists. Plus, the large muslim population of India continue to vote for these leftist parties. So, they kept voting against Israel. The first ‘official’ published relationship between India and Israel happened only when BJP came to power (2002-03). PM Modi became the first Indian PM to visit Israel (2017) – this happening so many years after 1948 – imagine, what should have been a natural, open partnership starting so late. And, India has moved from voting against Israel to staying nuetral under this government (abstentation). It will take quite some time to move towards voting in favour of Israel.
Relations with middle east and Iran is due to a major dependence on their oil. And, not to forget the huge number of Indians working in the middle east. Plus, the large muslim poplutaion of India continue to hold street power ( remember the recent massive protests against new CAA law). And, they also hit the streets in India for Palestine.
So, at a practical level, it’s quite hard for India to vote in favour of Israel right now. However, as India is quickly building home-grown defence manufacturing capability, I do think it will supply weapons to Israel in case of war ( in case Israel asks for it) – but, this will happen only clandestinely.
This hidden relationship has been spoken about for long and even complained against – even in official circles of Israel and India is well aware of it. However, once we become economic superpower and our troubling neighbours Pakistan and Bangladesh ( large musilm population) are dealt with, I think India will decisively move towards voting in favour of Israel.
