Let’s start with the bad news. Pierre Poilievre, head of the Conservative Party an a steadfast supporter of Israel in the Stephen-Harper vein, who has promised to move Canada’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, lost the election because his opponent, uber-banker Mark Carney, unfairly and cleverly tied him to Trump’s tariffs, and promised that only he, the Liberal Party candidate, would know how to “stand up for Canada,” whereas Poilievre, apparently, would not. Voters who a month or two ago were intent on voting for Poilievre, or rather, for the Conservative Party’s parliamentary candidates, fell for this pitch. During the campaign, someone in the audience at a Carney rally mentioned Israel and its “genocide.” Carney did not blanch, but appeared to endorse the charge. A significant number of Liberal MPs endorsed the so-called “Palestine Platform” before the election – an agenda openly hostile to Israel. Now in power, many more are likely to follow suit.
Carney, characteristically, has been silent on this as well.
As I write this, three days after his victory, Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu has yet to issue even a perfunctory congratulation. That is extraordinary.
Carney had accused Israel of genocide during the campaign, for which Netanyahu publicly rebuked him. Carney attempted a limp walk-back the next day, claiming he hadn’t heard the “G-word” properly amid the noise of the rally. Not credible, if you examine the full exchange – which I covered here. Otherwise, Carney has said nothing.
That mutual silence between Prime Ministers may seem minor, but in diplomatic terms, it’s seismic.
In Canada, many Jews fear Carney more than Trudeau. He’s far more intelligent, professional and very ideologically driven. With the strong Liberal minority in Parliament, there is already talk of Carney recruiting several MPs from the weakened, socialist New Democratic Party to secure a functioning majority. Should that transpire, one of the NDP’s top agenda items is a policy approach that would make Ireland look soft on Israel.
Carney would likely have to sign on to their Palestine platform which promotes total diplomatic and economic isolation of Israel. And based on his comments to date, he would likely do so without any qualms.
What does it mean for the Jews? For Israel?
It’s bad. Very bad.
That’s the bad news.
Now for the good news:

Almost all of the Canadian parliamentary candidates who endorsed the Vote Palestine policy platform lost their district races in the federal election, according to preliminary results, with a total of 25 of the 362 platform-endorsing candidates securing seats, though some defeated their pro-Palestinian peers. Eighteen of the 28 Liberal Party candidates who endorsed the platform will be part of the 45th parliament, many of them incumbents. Only 10% of the incoming Liberal Party’s 169 MPs endorsed the platform that called for a two-way arms embargo against Israel, Canadian recognition of a Palestinian state, an end to all engagement with Israeli settlements, and a ban on ownership of properties in those towns.
Notable Liberal signatories to the platform include Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities Minister Nate Erskine-Smith and incumbent Burlington North-Milton West MP Adam van Koeverden, the latter of whom made waves during the election campaign after telling potential voters in an April 12 recording that he would use his position to “condemn the genocide and end the genocide in Gaza.”
The use of the term “genocide” in regard to the Israeli operations in the ongoing Israel-Hamas War drew flak as Prime Minister Mark Carney attempted to distance himself from an alleged April 8 gaffe in which he suggested the same and as he dodged challenges on the issue from New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh during debates.Six Liberals endorsed by the Vote Palestine program lost to NDP candidates who had also signed the pledge.
Singh was one of the many NDP candidates who endorsed the Vote Palestine platform and failed to secure their seat in an election that saw a catastrophic fall for the party from 24 to 7 seats, which disqualifies them from having a recognized parliamentary caucus….
The pro-Palestine platform, which candidates were asked to endorse or reject, included instituting a total arms embargo on Israel, recognition of a Palestinian state, an end to all economic links with Israeli settlements, and a ban on Canadians owning properties in Judea and Samaria (a/k/a the West Bank). The takeaway is this: only 25 out of the 362 candidates who endorsed a pro-Palestinian policy platform won in their ridings. That is a spectacular loss, and the Liberal Party won only because of its exploitation of the tariff question. Once that issue is off the table, because Trump will likely reduce tariffs on Canadian goods as he has now been doing elsewhere, Carney will be seen as a johnny-one-note, beating a dead horse, and Poilievre, though he lost his seat, is still seen as the leader of the Conservative Party, and will still be able, from outside the government, to keep up his attacks on Carney and his anti-Israel and pro-Hamas policy.
And that is, as promised, the good news.

That almost all candidates who signed a pro-Palestinian pledge lost is indeed good news. But Mark Carney’s win was not due to any false association between Pierre Polievre and Trump’s tariffs. It was because most Canadians were afraid for their social programs once an arch-Conservative like Polievre got his hands on power. We have seen that before here, in Ontario. A massive Conservative win brought a government that virtually ignored the legislature, did everything by executive order (sound familiar?) and attacked every form of public spending there was, health care and education included, in order to hand out tax breaks to the rich. Plenty of voters thought all that would be good on a national scale, but more did not.

Facts would prove you right. The only reason Canadians candidates who did not sign the pro-Palestine pledge lost is that the Conservative governments are known in that country to bring down the deficit by cutting universal Health care, pensions and decrease spending on social programs like Dental Care, Pharma Care and Day Care (subsidized) which have produced a healthier, more productive population and it is the reason that Canada has not only 2 monopolistic Parties, but 3 main parties plus the ever-“Greens”!
But, and here’s the dilemma, most Canadians do not like the Liberal “promotion” of pro-Palestineand “woke” issues to destabilize the country, increase criminality and upset the social order and allow Islamists to fire at Jewish Girls’ Schools and demonstrate and terrorize citizens during their “peaceful” Islamofascist demonstrations.
Unfortunately, the only solution would be to vote on a Per Issue Basis, but that is highly improbable. Catch 22.

But that’s the point: the globalists handle even the restaurant bookings better than the faux-conservatives do.
Poilievre’s target that day was Christine Anderson, whom he called “racist” and “hateful”. As it happens, Frau Anderson is an elected representative of the people – unlike Pierre, at the time of writing – and her party, the AfD, is currently leading in the German polls – also unlike Pierre. I rose gallantly to defend my guest’s honour and, disinclined to forego the low-hanging fruit, mocked the Tory leader as “Pierre Pussievre”. Then he munched an apple (more dining, albeit lower budget than Blair) and became an Internet sensation. After that he sat on his Granny Smith and was content to leave it to Justin’s Pride Parade socks as they began their remorseless descent down his ankles.”

Let’s be clear folks. The tariffs were less of the story in this election than Trump’s repeated calls for Canada to become the 51st state.
I’m a patriotic American. If one of our neighbors were calling into question American independence, I would be insulted and angered. I empathize with patriotic Canadians who deeply resent Trump’s calls for the USA to absorb Canada.
I voted for Trump three times. I support the President. But he single-handedly shot down the chances of Canada’s Conservatives…..and folks, whatever you want to believe, it was less about the tariffs than it was about him threatening Canada’s independence.

Just write off Canada, and Australia, which had moved their embassy from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. Those 2 countries resemble Canada politically. The best that one can hope for is a lukewarm Centrist government like the one in NZ

A letter from the Muslim community immediately followed stating that Hussain had “mental issues”. This was clearly a terrorist attack, but it was silenced by the police and media and became a “mental issues” case.
