The hatred of Israel appears to seep into every area of our existence. Now the winner of this year’s Eurovision contest, the Austrian singer known as JJ, wants Israel to be banned from participating in the competition next year. More on his demand can be found here: “Austria’s Eurovision winner says he hopes Israel will be excluded next year,” by Hannah Brown, Jerusalem Post, May
We’ve seen sore losers with this year’s Eurovision, and now there’s a sore winner.
It’s Austria’s JJ, who won the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night with the song, “Wasted Love,” but was upset that Israel took part and that Israel’s song, “New Day Will Rise,” sung by Yuval Raphael, came in first in the audience voting.
“I hope the competition next year will take place in Vienna—without Israel,” he said Wednesday in an interview with the Spanish news outlet, El Pais. “But the ball is in the European Broadcasting Union’s court. We artists can only raise our voices on the matter. It’s very disappointing that Israel is still taking part in the contest.”
And why should Israel be banned from participating in Eurovision next year? Oh, for all the usual reasons: from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free, free from the colonial-settler, ethnic-cleansing genocidal little Sparta that has no right to exist, but must be replaced by a 23rd Arab state. Just keep repeating that mantra consisting of those heaped-up calumnies. No need to reason why. But we’ll disguise our antisemitic objection as principled alarm over “Israel’s manipulation of the voting.”
He also zeroed in on the audience voting system as problematic. “There needs to be a change in the voting system. There should be more transparency in the televoting. This year everything was very strange on that front,” he said.
While JJ won overall, in the audience voting, he received 178 points while Raphael received 297. The winner is determined by a combination of the audience votes, plus the votes of national juries. The national juries awarded “Wasted Love” 258 points, while they gave “New Day Will Rise” only 60. This is similar to last year, when Eden Golan’s rendition of “Hurricane” was second in the audience voting but she only had enough jury votes to finish fifth overall.
While there was no outcry last year about voting methods when the Swedish Nemo’s “The Code” won and Croatia’s “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baby Lasagna led in the popular vote, following Israel’s audience-vote triumph, there has been outrage in multiple countries.
The public broadcasters in Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, and Ireland have asked the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which runs the competition, to examine the results for voting fraud….
Several European broadcasters and journalists have cited the fact that the Israeli government – and not KAN, the Israeli public broadcaster – sponsored ads on YouTube and other places urging the public to vote for Raphael….
Furthermore, Wiwibloggs, a website devoted to Eurovision news, reported that Spotlight, the EBU’s independent fact-checking network, found that there was nothing against Eurovision rules in the Israeli promotional campaign.
Wiwibloggs’ Jordi Pedra wrote, “Spotlight’s investigation notes that other countries also ran advertising campaigns, including Malta, Greece, Albania, Poland, Armenia and France.
Some of these were run by the artists themselves via their own social platforms, and some were promoted via the competing broadcaster in the territory — but with no link to their respective governments.” But there is apparently nothing in the contest rules against a government promoting its contestant.
All of the Eurovision contestants had promotional campaigns. Some were run by the contestants themselves and some by their national broadcasters, The Israeli government ran a campaign encouraging people to vote for Raphael. But under the Eurovision rules there is nothing wrong with this.
When Israel’s contestant wins, it can only be, in the minds of antisemites, the fruit of clever Jewish manipulation of the voting. Raphael’s spectacular showing in the popular vote must have been the result of some underhanded methods which need to be investigated, though no one can point to anything that was done differently this year in the voting from the way it has been conducted in previous years. Israel’s government ran a campaign urging people to vote for the country’s entrant, and so did the governments of Malta, Greece, Albania, Poland, Armenia and France. But Israel is a pariah state, and special rules must apply to it. Because it encouraged people to vote for Yuval Raphael, just exactly as six other countries did for their contestants, it must be punished by being kept from participating in future Eurovision contests.

Wow: JJ “AUSTRIAN” singer who is NOT AUSTRIAN, because I am of German and Italian decided to look his background up based on his appearance which is decidedly NOT Austrian, and as I thought: QUOTING: Pietsch was born on 29 April 2001 in Vienna to an Austrian IT specialist and a Filipina cook. He spent the majority of his childhood in Dubai, UAE, where he was introduced to both pop through karaoke parties with his family and opera through his father. Both have influenced his current pop-opera style.[1] In 2016, the family moved back to Vienna. HE IS ACTUALLY FROM SOME KIND OF GENETIC BOUILLABAISSE.. like most people are are and RAISED IN DUBAI, UAE. So WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED THAT HE IS AN ANTI SEMITIC Anti Israel.. NEO-Nazi type? Who gives a damdn what EUROVISION less than B lister singer HAS TO SAY about Israel ANYWAY?
rick says
Thanks for the information. You also saved some “face” for Austria which doesn’t need a neo-nazi to remind us of the past.

So the state winner is the “Joe Biden” and the audience winner is the “Trump” of EuroVision?
Sure looks “rigged” and now the “winner” is promoting elimination of the real competition.
Where have seen this story before. Walks like politics, talks like politics, persecutes like politics, must be politics.
Rob R says
That made no sense but okay.
Yes well done for pointing out that people are being political while shouting about Israel/Palestine.
Truly well done, you must be a joke commenter who’s actually a lefty.
gravenimage says
No, Westman is a long tim anti-Jihadist here.

I believe Westman is pointing out the fact that this poor *winner* is trying to use the current situation as a way to make sure no Jew wins anything next time….not even second place.
Westman generally posts comments which may take some thought to understand.
carpediadem says
he used the metaphor of Biden stealing the election, with Israeli Yuval as Trump and Austrian Jerk as Biden.. Easy to understand.
Weird that he’s called anti Israel for it.
somehistory says
For you and I, to understand. I was explaining that *some* may find it more difficult.

Geographically, Israel is an Asian country, not European, and the fact that half the continent (not including any part of the Russian Federation) is muslim doesn’t change that reality. Culturally, Israel should be a part of Asian events, such as the Asian Games (I doubt that there is an Asian version of the Eurovision Song Contest, since every Asian culture’s music is starkly different from each other, making adjudicating next to impossible: it would be like trying to pick b/w a Louis Armstrong vs a Britney Spears)
Yeah, Israel may be a Western country, just like Australia or New Zealand, despite not being a part of Europe or the Americas, but it’s definitely not European
Hugh Fitzgerald says
Yet half of Israel’s population consists of Ashkenazi Jews, European in origin. Its political system, its legal system, its culture is European. It happens to exist geographically as a tiny slip of land — scarcely visible on world maps — on the dusty edge of Asia. It has far less in common with the Muslim Staes that surround it than it does with France, Italy, Germany, and the U.K.
gravenimage says
Infidel, Israel is culturally Western, and is not welcomed by Islamic countries in Asia. So why doesn’t she just curl up and die, huh?

JJ. Now there is a “pig” if there ever was one. A young woman,Yuval Raphael, who on Oct. 7 played dead for 8 hours laying under the dead bodies of her friends covered in blood and finally rescued. Then without any professional training won a contest that resulted in her being chosen to represent Israel at the Eurovision contest. And then overcoming all odds to win Second place despite getting abysmal number of votes from the official judges ( who voted overwhelmingly for the Spanish contestant) but winning an amazing number of votes from the popular voters to put her in Second.
I see that “JJ” wants Israel to be banned from the next year’s Eurovision Contest in Austria.
I suppose his sick hopes are based on Austria, being the birthplace of Hitler, will see a win for Nazism.

This explains why the Nazis didn’t have to take Austria by force like they did so many other countries. Enthusiastic crowds welcomed them in. Some people never change.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Well, Hitler was Austrian, who migrated to Germany & rose there. Since Austria lost all of its non-German speaking parts, such as Hungary, Bosnia, Bohemia,…. it was the only German speaking country left that wasn’t a part of Germany, as say, Bavaria was. So there was a movement in that country to merge it w/ Germany, just like today there is a movement to merge Moldova w/ Romania

“The Austrian singer known as JJ wants Israel banned from the competition next year…”
And to think that Israel gave 12 points in the national jury vote to this anti-Semitic nobody. Because, unlike Israel, which received 297 points in the public vote, he only received 178 points in the public vote! He was saved by the anti-Israel national jury vote! (Review the votes) including the 12 points awarded by the Israeli jury to this wretch?
The public who voted for Israel—including me 20 times—should, and I’m ready, file a complaint against these Spanish, Finnish, Dutch, and Irish public broadcasters for serious accusations of electoral fraud. Or the public who voted for the magnificent Israeli song, for the superb voice and the classy clothing of the Israeli singer who had no need to show off her thighs and stomach? A sad and vulgar spectacle that hasn’t been spared us?
Anitra says
No confirmation of his acceptance?

He probably doesn’t want this kind of competition from talented Israelis, either:

People who are without mindfulness for the law, for morals, and who think like children – can only think of one thing: getting their own way. And they will never take the time to reflect on how incorrect their ‘way’ is. We should expect nothing else. And should always strive for an organized society and ensures equal opportunity and fair competition for all.
