Egyptian government to seize sixth-century Orthodox Christian monastery

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece said: “I do not want to believe—and I cannot believe—that today Hellenism and Orthodoxy are experiencing yet another historical fall. We cannot allow this to happen.”

Adding to the insult is the fact that this came to light on May 29.

And so the jihad continues to advance, with the overwhelming majority of the Infidel world being utterly ignorant about what is happening, and indifferent to it.

In a move described as “unprecedented and unacceptable,” Egypt has ordered the closure of the Monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai, the world’s oldest continuously functioning Christian monastery. This decision has sparked outrage from religious leaders and surprise within the Greek government, despite recent high-level diplomatic assurances.

Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece reacted with palpable anger, lamenting in a statement, “Yet another historic Fall that Hellenism and Orthodoxy are experiencing.”

Information suggests a prevailing sense of bewilderment within the Greek government, given that the issue had reportedly been addressed during a meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi earlier this month. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now handling the crisis, acknowledging its utmost importance.

The monastery, founded by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian 15 centuries ago, has long enjoyed global renown and respect. Despite numerous historical upheavals, it has miraculously endured. …

    • Adolf Hitler being one of the Devil’s children, an empty person who became dominated by Satan, of whom Jesus spoke.
      Fascinating to observe with horror how the evil demon in Hitler was infectious, until it held Germany and other countries, and destroyed millions of Jews and others.

  5. The American government has given Egypt more than $80 billion since 1948. Now Egypt receives about $1.5 billion a year from the Unite States. All American aid to Egypt should immediately be stopped, and only when this decision to seize the St. Catherine’s Monasteryi n the Sinai is revoked, should Washington renew — but at a much lower level — any aid. Instead of $1.5 billion, how about $300 million instead?

    • Egypt appears to have reconsidered. It’s still unclear if it will take lands that belong to the monastery, while leaving the monastery itself untouched. And perhaps there was an American threat to cut aid to Egypt. We will find out soon enough.

    • All military aid to Egypt needs to end. They used to get it in the 1980s, when they were threated by Gafaffi’s Libya and Hafez Assad’s Syria – both of which were armed to the teeth w/ Soviet weaponry. That threat hasn’t been there for now decades, so Egypt doesn’t need that either. If anything, if a muslim brotherhood retakes power in Cairo like Moris did in 2011, then all those toys can be turned on Israel

      Civilian aid can be worked out depending on their civilian needs. But once the Houthis are silenced and Suez traffic resumes, Cairo should need a lot less in aid. As it is, they get a lot from the Saudis & Emiratis, and are virtually a client state of the GCC, unlike what used to be the case under Nasser and even Mubarak

      • Ich finde, Ägypten sollte sich seinen “Wohlstand” und seine militärische Aufrüstung selbst erwirtschaften. Was ist das für eine Unsitte geworden, Staaten, die uns aufgrund ihrer Ideologie feindlich gesinnt sind, Gelder und unser Know How, getarnt als Entwicklungshilfe, zur Verfügung zu stellen.
        Würde der Westen diese Unterstützung einstellen, würde sich in den islamischen Gesellschaften auch die Geburtenrate entsprechend den wirtschaftlichen Möglichkeiten auf ein normales Niveau einpendeln.

        • Wenn Ägypten weiterhin von ausländischer Hilfe leben möchte, kann es diese von den Golfstaaten erhalten, denen es sich unterordnen will – Saudi-Arabien, die Emirate … Es gibt keinen Grund, warum diese Hilfe aus westlichen Ländern kommen muss.

  7. Another fallen Greek Orthodoxy Christian Monastery consumed by Islam, more than likely turned into a mosque. Egypt has always been hard on Christians (dhimmi’s) as secondary people, certainly not the equivalent of Muslims.

    All I can say is, “May God help us (non-Muslim) all”.

    • Yes, but far more hard on Christians when Islamofascist Muslim Brotherhood Morsi was installed by Jihadist-supporting Turkey 2011–2012. The Muslim Bros. are just biding their time until they remove President Al-Sisi’s secular government from power. Then antiSemitic, Christianophobic Turkey will be calling the shots in Egypt–may God forbid!

  9. Just one more reason why Israel should have not given up the Sinai. I understand that the cold peace with Egypt since the Camp David Accords has had some (few?) positives but a Greater Israel which would include the Sinai taken in the Six Day War as well as Judea and Samaria (the so-called West Bank), the Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights could have truly provided Israel with all kinds of advantages it does not now enjoy. Besides, Christians in a Greater Israel would be protected such as no Muslim majority nation protects Christians.

    What? The present situation has been the better option? I don’t think so.

    The Muslim world would hate Israel even more, assuming that is possible? So what.

  10. I think they means teh building is the responsibility of the government. Same in france. Notre Dame belongs to the state so the state repairs it but it can still be used for worship.

    Nothing wrong here. The monk can’t probably aford to maintain such a building to a safe standard.

  12. Thhis is an issue that arises daily even in EU countries which now have deemed it fit to”invited” Turkish Islamofascists to be EU’s “Defence Contractors”!

    The closure of the Monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai is a crime against Orthodiox Christianity and its Byzantine heritage!

    But, to be gair, we must remind ourselves that when Obama’s Arab Spring arrived in Egypt 2011–2012 and Islamist Morsi was “voted” president thanks to the Turkish Muslim Brotherhood (funded as is Hamas & ISIS/AlQaeda) by Turkey Churches and synagogues in Egypt were destroyed by the Islamists. At least with President Al-Sisi now as Egypt’s President, the Muslim Bros. are considered “terrorists” as they should be.

    Unfortunately, Turkey and Qatar have spread their Islamofascist Sharia tentacles in Egypt and al-Sisi is tyring hard to keep the Peace. Egypt had guards posted at Orthodox Churches when Mubarak was in power.

    Egypt should resist the furhter infilration of Muslim Bros. extremist fundamentalist terrorists from expanding their influence in Egypt. I don’t think Trump understands the importance of keeping the secularist government of al-Sisis in power–away from the influence of Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas!
    What happened in Jihadist Syria is only a preamble of the ignorance of Americna political leaders–and EU’s.

    Assad is proven to be Mother Teresa compared to al-Jolani’s Jihadist beheaders already masssacred 3000 Alawites and Christians on the sea coast so Turkey would isntall its “bases” to attack Israel and other East Med countries!

  13. We need to read Spencer’s “Empire of God: How the Byzantines Saved Civilization” to really understand what this story is all about. In 1453, with the Fall of Constantinope, when the neo-Ottoman(Turkish) invaders invaded The City of Christians, civilization almost died. And today, Europe is permitting Turkey to become recipient of $150B of European funds to be the “Defence Contractor: for EU! EU, ignorant of its history, is allowing the Islamist barbarians at the Gates once again!
