Don’t say gay.
Disney, like most companies, aggressively pushes wokeness on Americans. But it behaves very differently in China and the Muslim world.
The woke studio had been caught editing out gay content for the UAE, Iraq, Turkey and the Palestinian Authority occupied territories of Israel.
Disney+ Middle East wouldn’t even platform anything with gay content.
And now Disney is opening Disneyland Abu Dhabi in the UAE. While the UAE isn’t the worst country in the region, it’s a place where being gay means a prison sentence.
Disney won’t say a thing about it and you can bet there won’t be any bearded princesses or any of the other woke nonsense as in Disneylands in Western countries.)
(There’a also the awkward reality that Disney is building a theme park in a country that uses slave labor.)
Much of the media is cheerfully echoing Disney’s press releases about the new theme park while mentioning nothing about the fact that the company is opening its park in a place where gay people are sent to prison.
Think of it as the new ‘Don’t Say Gay’. Except Disney and the media are the ones who won’t say it.
Tony Rice says
How two faced are some countries. In the most fervent of Islamic countries, Afghanistan, mature men have sexual activity with young underage boys. Following whose example? Many Middle Eastern countries are not far behind

Child marriage is still rife in the UAE.
RegT says
islam itself encourages child rape (aka child marriage), and Disney appears to have a culture of child pornography and/or sexual abuse among some of it employees, IIRC. Sounds like a marriage made in jahannam.
Wendy Kaye says
Apparently the Disney wokerati are all suffering from a severe irony deficiency. 🤦♀️

Why do I find this hilarious?…

Disney World, Florida made much of special days for homosexuals at the park. No one was hanged or thrown from the Cinderella’s castle roof.
They should ignore the feelings of mozlums as they ignored the feelings of heterosexuals who wanted to visit the park and take their little kids.
Have special days for homosexuals in the land of the mozlum rulers. Be consistent.
Wellington says
Disney has become as anti-American as has the Democratic Party. Both are damn hypocritical too. No one of sense and knowledge should patronize either.

What happens in the World of the Leftists when confronted with real life dilemma such as this; they zip the lips and bury their head in the sand. There’s plenty of sand in the ME.

One word comes to mind: Hypocrites. Guessing money is stronger than core beliefs.
OLD GUY says
MONEY is always the leading factor for companies like Disney. They probably got Millions of Dollars from the Abu Dhabi Government to build this park. Kind of an in your face move by them.
Hoi Polloi says
Yet another round of their idea that western countries are to be constantly condemned while the same entities turn a blind eye to horrific behavior from non-western countries. Sick of it.

Will all the Disney princesses now need to wear burkhas?

Lady of the Lake says
It’s good to see Disney getting back to its roots of entertaining the
traditional heterosexual family community.
gravenimage says
Wait–you think that polygamous forced child marriages are “traditional heterosexual family community”? Think again…
RegT says
I believe Lady of the Lake was being facetious, perhaps even sarcastic. I would have thought that was hard to miss.

I agree.

Disneyland to Open in Muslim Country That Locks Up Gay People

So much for Disneyland Gay Days…

When I was young Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean had pirates chasing women around in circles. Later, in an effort to rehabilitate the image of pirates Disney changed it to pirates chasing women, who were carrying plates of food, around in circles.
tgusa says
I learned everything I needed to know about getting a woman by riding The Pirates of the Caribbean. I assumed that was how it was done. It left a lasting impression on me. Interestingly, I found out that polite society didn’t much care for that sort of behavior.
somehistory says
About the only *visual* I recall from the Pirates, was of the skeleton sailing the boat. Most of the rest of the *ride* was hearing the pirates dividing up the money, arguing or singing without being observed.

I wonder how the Emiratis would treat Disney productions celebrating LGBTQIA+ in their country. More importantly, I’d be fascinated to see whether Disney dare say a word against them when they do anything remotely hostile to Gays. They could flex their muscle in Florida (which cost them their special governance privileges in Disneyworld), but I’d love to see them try it in Abu Dhabi

Don’t hold your breath. As you and I both know the left doesn’t have the spine to do that. They only do that in the USA because they know they are safe and none of us are going to behead them. The sad thing is I’m beginning to get the feeling that among the left that sort of thing gets stuff done. Or more precisely, gets things not done.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
If you recall, in 2021, on Pride Day, a lot of corporations changed their logos to rainbow-tinges of what they actually were – companies like BMW, Apple, et al. Except in the Middle East, where they left them their original versions
Even at the height of wokeness, they didn’t dare offend the sensibilities of mohammedans, knowing what would happen to them not just there, but in the West as well

Just wondering if Disney is considering also marketing the “sanitized” UAE version of their movies to customers in the United States.
Or maybe I should not be giving them any ideas…

Having difficulty with the cognitive dissonance.
Islam’s rules about art are explicit.
No figural representations. Think mosque, palace, skyscrapers, tomb etc. interiors. Not even landscapes.
Live character players? Princesses and other female characters portrayed in burqas because they are out in public. How would you tell one from the other?
Men and women working together?
So. . . geometric depictions of people, animals, scenes and fantasy characters? How do you depict a non figural figure?
Even if you have rides and arcade games what would they look like?
A roller coaster called “The Great Logic of Islam” consisting of twists, loops, and u-turns to make sense of the inconsistencies of Islamic thought.
A game called “Cut the Heads Off the Infidels”? Most heads wins!
I’d love to see the “Marty for Mohammad” game – but only if the targets were electronic but the ammo for the martys was real. After all that’s their greatest prize!
Never thought I could be less interested in Disney than usual but never say never.
somehistory says
There is no logic in islime. But the islimic nations which see the *fun* people in the U.S. have at such places as Disney, Sea World, Six Flags, have a human desire for such things and Disney wants the money.
I don’t see any real success in this venture.
