The UK’s far-left Labour Party Prime Minister Keir Starmer has extended a second invitation to Donald Trump within a short period of time, adding to the new kafkaesque reality that the world has entered. Prior to Canada’s April 28 federal election, Trump disappointed Canadian conservatives by saying he actually prefers to “deal” with the Liberal globalist Carney rather than the Conservative Pierre Poilievre. It would have been akin to former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper saying that he would rather deal with Obama and a Democrat right before elections, which, of course, Harper would have never done.

The reason for increased support for the Liberals is believed to be, at least in part, a backlash in Canada toward Trump who, in addition to levying punishing tariffs, has made copious disrespectful comments about the land – including it not a viable country without America subsidizing it.
Many Americans laughed off Trump’s persistent comments about Canada becoming a 51st State as a joke and they still do, but Carney, as well as a large segment of Canada, is not laughing. And given Trump’s latest antics of endorsing Carney over Poilievre, accepting a $400 million Air Force One gift from Qatar, and removing US sanctions on Syria in a major policy shift, no one really knows what to expect next. So maybe the laughter over Trump’s repeated comments about Canada becoming a 51st State has faded in the light of the rest of what he is doing.
Carney has no business meddling in the UK’s decisions about Trump, although the same can be said of Trump, who endorsed Carney repeatedly as Canada’s election day approached.
Global alliances are re-shaping at lightning speed. Political strategies are unclear in the public eye. Overall goals remain largely undisclosed. Carney clearly has a completely different agenda with regard to Trump from that of Starmer,”who is trying to improve trading ties with the U.S. after Britain left the European Union.”
Carney will likely have no influence on Starmer.

Since taking office in January, Trump has repeatedly said he wants Canada to become the 51st U.S. state, a suggestion that has angered Canadians and left Britain trying to tread a fine line between the two North American countries.
Britain’s King Charles is also head of state of Canada, a former British colony, and the monarch has made a number of symbolic gestures in recent months, wearing Canadian medals, planting a maple tree and referring to himself as the king of Canada.
Charles, who is still undergoing cancer treatment, is also due to attend Canada’s state opening of parliament on May 27, the first time a British monarch has attended the event in Ottawa since 1977.
Carney, in an interview with Sky News, was asked about British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s move in February to use his visit to the Oval Office to hand Trump an invitation from the monarch for an unprecedented second state visit to London.
“I think, to be frank, they (Canadians) weren’t impressed by that gesture… given the circumstance. It was at a time when we were being quite clear about the issues around sovereignty,” he said.
Carney, who won a party race to become prime minister in March before he secured victory in Canada’s election last month by vowing to stand up Trump, said Charles’s presence in Canada later this month was by design.
“All issues around Canada’s sovereignty have been accentuated by the president. So no, it’s not coincidental, but it is also a reaffirming moment for Canadians,” he said.
Starmer, who is trying to improve trading ties with the U.S. after Britain left the European Union, has sought to play to its strengths when dealing with Trump, talking up its security expertise, pledging higher defence spending, and offering the pomp and pageantry that comes with a state visit…..

Agreed about the messiness on the Trump front of late and I was hoping for more pushback on UK political prisoners. Starmer, however, cannot be shamed, so trying that is pointless. Alberta is welcome as #51; maybe Carney should direct his attention there. I’m also pulling for Greater Idaho, lest any Canadians feel singled out. Shaking up the political board game is periodically necessary to keep politicians’ egos in check.

As I’ve suggested in the past, the best solution for both countries would be to merge and re-split along political lines:
⮞ Red states in the US merge w/ Canada’s western provinces west of Ontario, from Manitoba to British Columbia. (Incidentally, is Yukon conservative or Liberal?) They’d form the US, w/ Trump as the president, and the US constitution running everything. Capital could be maybe a central city like Omaha or Wichita
⮞ Blue states in the US merge w/ Canada’s eastern and northern provinces. They’d form Canada w/ the Canadian constitution, Charles would still be king (and William after him), and Democrats, who have nobody to call their leader now, can rally behind either Mark Carney or even Justin Trudeau. Capital can be DC or Ottawa
This is the only hypothetical way that could make both sides happy: Leftists no longer have to seethe at Trump, and conservatives can be happy w/ nobody left to obstruct Trump policies. Finally, both countries can build big, beautiful walls b/w them, so that Canada can take unlimited number of illegals, but US can block them as well

Objecting to a British invitation is not “meddling”. It is expressing an opinion. Like it or not Mark Carney is a head of state. They’re allowed to do that.

When a ‘head of State” “expresss an opinion” heard by the world, it can, and often does, influence others to take a stand they might not otherwise.
That is one big reason they publicly “express an opinion.” He wants to have a say in what happens between Trump, the U.S. and the U.K.
You can “express an opinion” without it affecting anyone else. “Heads of State” do so in order to
affect everyone if possible. and that can be considered “meddling.”

Actually, for Canada, Carney is head of government – has executive powers just like Starmer in UK, while Charles is head of state – king of both UK & Canada (and a bunch of other commonwealth members, including Australia and New Zealand). In the US, those 2 roles are fused in the president, which is why that concept isn’t readily grasped
Charles does not have any real power: yeah, he’s the king, but Britain became a constitutional monarchy some centuries ago

Here at least, in a worst case scenario, infidels can legally buy firearms in most states, and defend themselves, no matter who’s appeasing. I recall in 2016 when one gun show in Florida or Texas declared that muslims were unwelcome, and they were denounced by Marco Rubio. They may not have been liked, but one thing: the US is the one country people can pack heat should the muslim threat increase
