A photo of University of Sydney students turning their backs on a Jewish speaker who denounced Hamas has been slammed as a demonstration of ‘contempt’.

During the Student Representative Council’s general meeting on Wednesday, the group Students Against War called to reject a nationwide definition of antisemitism.

Adopted by Universities Australia, the definition has said criticism of Israel can be antisemitic ‘when it calls for the elimination of the State of Israel’.

‘Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism. That’s why there is no such thing as a two-state solution,’ a council member told the crowd of 200 students.

‘That’s why the obvious solution is a one-state solution. There’s no such thing as Jewish self determination in Israel.’

Postgraduate student Kovi Rose, who is the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, had attended the meeting to speak against the motion.

‘I pleaded with the room of nearly 200 students to vote based on well-reasoned and fact-based arguments,’ he said.

‘But this prompted nearly the entire audience to stand up and turn their backs on me.’…

      I saw this “readers comments” quote online a couple of days ago and I saved it:

        Some years ago, a man I knew was talking about institutions with some corruption. He likened it to a glass of water to which a small bit of dirt or poison was added.

        It’s a similar problem. Once the corruption is allowed, or the poison is added….

When stupid people hear a view they dislike, they refuse to hear any more, which is what the back-turning action means. when an intelligent person hears a view they disagree with, they formulate and express ( through some channel ) an attempted refutation of the view they dislike.

  3. The rot which is Leftthink is pervasive throughout the West, whether in Australia, America, the UK, Canada, Germany, et al. And a major “player” in this malevolent rubbish which is Leftthink are universities and colleges throughout the Western world.

    So much for higher education in our time, whether in Sydney or New York City or wherever. And if the worst of mankind can take over education, and which has been occurring since the 1960s in the West, then any society exposed to this is in pretty big trouble. Like now.

    • Tim, your comment brings a song to mind. “I’m in with the in crowd; I go where the in crowd goes. I’m in with the in crowd; I know what the in-crowd knows.”

      As you say, whatever is “trendy.’ Sometimes when I am researching something, the browser brings up what’s “trending now.” It’s usually garbage of which I know nothing and care less.
      But it’s trending because so many are interested in garbage.

      • I can vaguely remember that song somehistory I think that, especially when people are young, it is hard for them to not go along with the trendy garbage. They would become a leper socially if they did not fit in with their peer groups opinions. Hopefully some of them will develop some courage as they nature.

        • I can relate to what you say about not fitting in being shy, somehistory. Both our parents were shy and my sisters, brother and I are the same. I was saved to some degree by being a good athlete which helps make a person be acceptable even if you are weird. Depression and pretty serious mental illness have affected me throughout my life.

        • Tim, I; can easily recall one instance when I was 12 and in 7th grade. I was seated on a bench between classes and an older girl I didn’t know sat down beside me. She began asking personal questions and my answers were short. She got up and stormed off.
          That same girl later became a girlfriend of an older brother. She told him that I was rude; he told her I was shy.
          He married her and while they were together, we never got along.
          Life is rough and for some, it’s really, really rough. Your tribulations actually help to make you strong….like metal hardened by fire. Hang in there; better days are coming.

        • Thanks James, rufolino and somehistory for your support. I am doing ok these days. I will probably stay on antidepressants for the rest of my life but that’s fine. I have got lots of company when it comes to depression my sisters and brother and some friends are are very helpful. Sorry to hear about your problem with your sister in law. It is hard to get along with some people that’s for sure.

        • Thank you, Tim. When medication is needed, there is no shame in that. Our bodies are imperfect and many things can go wrong. Taking your kind of meds is no different than some one having to take heart meds. Listening to up-lifting music helps me as does thinking about the promise of Paradise (nothing like the fake one of islime)

          As for my *former* sister-in-law…they were not married very long. He tried four other times and the last one lasted until his death a few years ago. She just had a mean streak, and an “I’m always right” streak, too.
          Some people aren’t meant to marry; and many marry the wrong person.
