If what Dr. Abdulaziz Sager, chairman of the Saudi based Gulf Research Center turns out to be true, then kudos to the Yemeni government.
The Houthis are one of Iran’s proxies and are supportive of Hamas. The Yemen offensive “would constitute the largest offensive of the civil war and would also set the stage for an assault on the capital city Sana’a, which has been under Houthi control since 2014.” There will likely be sizable civilian casualties. Too many for Westerners to continue to justify jihadist groups and make excuses for them, and even worse, to condemn war efforts to stop them, as we have seen so frequently with Israel against Hamas, despite the fact that Hamas uses human shields.
Last week, the Houthis launched a ballistic missile “apparently aimed at Israel,” but it “fell short in Saudi Arabia”; and three weeks ago, the U.S. State Department approved “the first sale of advanced precision kill weapon systems to Saudi Arabia for an estimated cost of $100 million.” In 2015, Saudi Arabia led a Western-backed coalition “to support the Saudi-backed government” of Yemen because of worry about “the growing influence of Shi’ite Iran along its border.”
A Yemen launch of “80,000 soldiers,” who “would represent a majority of all non-Houthi forces in Yemen” against the Houthis has implications far beyond the borders of Yemen. If successful, Iran would see another one of its proxies drastically weakened (or wiped out altogether), along with the continued decline of its other proxies, Hizballah and Hamas. Such a launch (with regional and US support) not only returns the Yemeni government to control over its country, but it provides an obvious bonus to Israel and a victory for Saudi Arabia.

Yemen’s government is reportedly preparing to launch a massive assault to recapture Hodeidah Port in western Yemen from the Houthis, according to a Friday report in Emirati state media.
Yemen’s internationally recognized government is preparing to mass nearly 80,000 troops for what would be the largest offensive of the civil war, according to statements by Dr. Abdulaziz Sager, chairman of the Gulf Research Center based in Saudi Arabia, on Friday.
“To my best knowledge, there is a preparation of almost 80,000 soldiers from the legitimate Yemeni government in different locations in order to take over [Hodeidah],” Dr. Sager said.
80,000 soldiers would represent a majority of all non-Houthi forces in Yemen. This would constitute the largest offensive of the civil war and would also set the stage for an assault on the capital city Sana’a, which has been under Houthi control since 2014….
Hodeidah is considered one of Yemen’s key ports and was a major source of food imports before the war.
Dr. Sager pointed to the meeting between US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla and the Chief of Staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Sagheer Hamoud Ahmed Aziz in Saudi Arabia last week. Kurilla visited several Middle Eastern countries in the first week of April, including Israel, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia…..

Hodeidah, I´m surprised that port is still operating, I was Chief Engineer on a Cory Tugboat the Fast Fox, around 2000 or so and the port, believed built by the Russians when they had tenure, was beginning to silt up even then, but if you really want to hit them hard then bomb the Qat market, of course they are too holy to drink booze, that’s for the Kufar, but Qat !, that’s a different matter.

Hope this works–but most Yemenis seem pretty uninspired about doing anything about the houthi teerrorists–mostly, likely, because so many Yemenis support Jihad terror themselves, if only of the Sunni variety.
