UK: Tommy Robinson loses court challenge against 18-month sentence for contempt of court

Whom are you trying to kid, Mr. Justice Johnson? Nobody in shattered, staggering, dhimmi Britain is above the law? How about this guy? Or this one? Or this one?

Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has lost a Court of Appeal challenge against his 18-month sentence for the civil offence of contempt of court.

Robinson was jailed last October for the civil offence of contempt of court, and challenged the length of the sentence at the Court of Appeal on Friday.

The 42-year-old was jailed after admitting 10 breaches of a High Court order made in 2021, which barred him from repeating false allegations against a Syrian refugee who successfully sued him for libel.

Lawyers for Robinson, who has ADHD and “complex post-traumatic stress disorder”, told the Court of Appeal that prison is “making him ill” and that his mental health, combined with his segregation in custody, is having a “demonstrable effect” on him, meaning his sentence should be reduced.

Barristers for the Solicitor General, who opposes the appeal, said there are “no grounds” for reducing the sentence.

Robinson was jailed by Mr Justice Johnson at Woolwich Crown Court last year after the Solicitor General issued two contempt claims against him.

The first alleged he “knowingly” breached the order on four occasions, including by having “published, caused, authorised or procured” a film called Silenced, which contains the libellous allegations, in May 2023.

The second claim was issued in August, concerning six further breaches, including playing the film at a demonstration in Trafalgar Square in central London last summer.

Jailing Robinson, Mr Justice Johnson said that “nobody is above the law” and described the breaches of the injunction as “flagrant”….

  3. Contempt of Court is just an old British technique to give countries an imperial judiciary, where judges arrogate powers to themselves. You see that in the judiciaries of countries like Israel and India, where judges pretty much select themselves, and are at odds w/ governments. Under this law, any criticism of judges or their decisions are not protected speech, although people are still at liberty to criticize their legislative or executive (they are merged in parliamentary systems like UK’s) branches of government

    Such countries should attempt to copy the US federal model, as opposed to the British one, where they get self-selected by their “old boys club”

      He has courage, honesty and integrity.
      He is a great leader and speaks for the working class.
      Tends to punch people who try to intimidate him and is obviously an Islamophobe.

    That is why he is in jail.

    In solitary – and the Prison Governor claims he’s fine and has lots of privileges.
    During the hearing Tommy was on a video link but was not allowed to speak. He held up a written sign saying the Prison Governor was lying,…… and another sign which said no compromise on freedom of speech.

  8. Tommy proved in his documentary’Silenced’, the Syrian kid who got tackled was a little monster bullying smaller children, disrespectful to teachers. Tommy was sued, convicted, and fined by a kangaroo court for defamation. His documentary which included eye witnesses accounts of the Syrian brat embarrassed the court.

    Sir be careful of using GB news as a source.
    Sure it’s better than the BBC but it is still controlled by OffCom and thus State influenced.
    It does claim to be the “Home of Free Speech” Don’t be fooled. If it ain’t controlled opposition it is damned close.

        Mahyar Tousi is an Iranian exile who came to Britain as a teenager with his mother who claimed asylum in the UK embassy in Tehran. Islamic police were chasing her because her hijab uncovered her face in the wind and she ran into the Embassy for help.

      Very good point. Mark Steyn chose to part ways w/ GBNews when his contract, up for renewal, included several clauses that would expose him directly to Ofcom. And of course, there was the disgraceful treatment of Dan Wootton and Lawrence Fox

      The best that can be said about GBNews is that it’s the home of Farage and Reform, but as we all know, Farage is no better than Sunak or Starmer when it comes to the question of islam

  13. I have always loved and admired Great Britain. In fact, I consider Great Britain to be one of the main developers of Governmental, and Jurisprudence Design, for Western Development. What happened?

    Liberals happened. UK Liberals who embraced the carnage of the French Revolution, Napoleon Boneparte, Adolf Hitler, and the Nazi Party of Germany, Communism, Mao, Castro, Che, and now? Now the UK Liberals embrace islamic rapists and terrorists.
