Trump Blocks Israel from Striking Iran

Having declared repeatedly, both as a candidate, and as president, that he will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, President Trump has been behaving strangely. Not only has he refused, at this point, to agree to join Israel in a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, but he has not furnished Israel with the 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs that would be needed to destroy the facilities that Iran has built underground at Natanz and inside a mountain at Fordow. Without those bombs, and without the B-2 Spirit planes to deliver the MOPs (Massive Ordnance Penetrators) to the skies over Iran, an Israeli operation to destroy Iran’s nuclear program will fail.

Trump seems at this point determined not to send the needed bombs and bombers to Israel. Worse still, he is now enmeshed in talks with Iran, with Steve Witkoff negotiating with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Omani Embassy in Rome. Someone who prides himself on his deal-making abilities, his ballyhooed (by himself) mastery of “the art of the deal,” will want to favor jaw-jaw over war-war, but Iran is merely dragging out the talks with the U.S., stalling for time, as it marches relentlessly forward with its uranium enrichment program. The Israelis were hoping that by this point— with Iran so close to the fatidic finish line — that the Americans would either agree to join them in an attack on Ian’s nuclear facilities, or at least would give the Jewish state the 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs and the bombers to deliver them. Neither has happened.

Division between Israel and the United States is the best thing that could happen to the Islamic Republic, Iran expert and researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) Beni Sabti said on Sunday.

He addressed the New York Times report published last week, which claimed US President Donald Trump blocked a planned Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear sites in favor of negotiating a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear program.

“The Iranians are not talking about the leak that occurred, likely due to heavy censorship on the subject,” Sabti said.

“That indicates the information is likely true. Because when the Iranians strongly deny something and go out of their way to do so, it means they are standing firm on something. Now, they’re simply enjoying it and staying silent, because a rift between Israel and the United States is the best thing that could happen for them.”…

Now Steve Witkoff and Abbas Araghchi are about to start the third round of their negotiations. Iran has conceded nothing, and has insisted that it will not give up either its stockpile of enriched uranium or dismantle its uranium centrifuges.

When will Trump realize he is being played, ends the negotiations with Iran, and prepares for the alternative course of action — bombs aweigh — that the Israelis believe is the only sure way to put paid to the Iranian nuclear program? Chastened by Iran’s geopolitical filibustering, our president must embrace what he may be pleased to call “the art of the real.”

  3. Israel is stymied without the U.S. doing the actual bombing. Flying a B-2, even after having flown fighter aircraft, is not the same thing as renting an unfamiliar car and driving away. It is a whole new learning experience, and I am pretty sure that the US has not invited any Israeli pilots to learn how to fly the aircraft.

    I cannot believe that Trump is so naïve as to be bamboozled by Iran’s insincere willingness to negotiate in good faith. I say this because all of our B-2 bombers still sit, laden with payload with a little over a 3 hour flight to northern Iran, ready to go. Our aircraft carriers are still in an assault-ready position, and all they need is the green light to turn Fordow and Natanz into a deep hole in the ground about 3 hours after the light turns green.

    I agree that something is holding up the show, but that information is best known to Trump, the Secretary of Defense, and the AF generals and admirals.

    • I think it’s very likely that China and Russia are involved in holding up the show. If they have not already provided advanced weapons, they will, at least, provide satellite and tracking information to the Iranians.

      Israeli pilots – some of the best in the world – would still need time to train, flying the B-2.

  4. I won’t go into the full meaning as anyone can research it out, and truth has more meaning when done by one’s self rather than spoon fed information.
    Trump and Lebanon president Aoun are the only 2 leaders seen to date that go out of their way to display their hand triangles constantly. It is a very very wicked intentional display. Be forewarned and not shocked at any thing or sudden change from these 2 men. Plenty of wicked men but these 2 take the cake.

  6. Now is the time. Israel has done the job of weakening Iran and its proxies. Delay is a gift to Iran to finish its delivery system on ballistic missiles.
    The mad mullahs are crazy enough to attack any western country.

  7. Trump was always weak-kneed and proudly declared he was against the invasion of Iraq/Afg…he’s cowardly and anti-war and is just a showman. I’ve been saying this for ages and now it’s proven.

    He’s easily led around by the nose by other cowardly/traitorous politicians. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were Biden/Obama holdovers.

    They came in strong talking about fighting the pro-Hamas crowd, deported a few people (mostly illegals) and then just fizzled out.

    I once read that maybe Israel’s tactical nukes could blow up the mountain…maybe it won’t be as effective as a bunker-buster but it could cause major damage and set them back.

    Hell why not just target the Iranian regime? If you get rid of the mad Mullahs, replace them with secular Iranians, then it’ll be very easy to take apart the nuke program.

    There’s more than one way to reach a goal. PS Fu-k Trump…just another empty suit who’s full of himself and cares nothing about dealing with the real problems the world faces, esp. Islam.

    We need a strong leader who understands the dangers we all face.

    I truly hope Trump either changes his view and does a united strike with Israel or gives them the tools they need, or that Israel just goes it alone.

    Even a temporary setback is good…because it buys time to do even more later.

    • I don’t agree that he’s cowardly, but I do agree that he’s obsessed w/ peace, no matter what. If peace is such a great thing, why was he bombing the Houthis? After all, they engage in behavior pretty similar to Iran: only difference is that Iran actually has a navy that can block shipping across the Straits of Hormuz

      However, his claims of spreading the art of the deal to diplomacy is proving hollow: even Russia is not responding to some very generous pro-Moscow moves that he has made. And his insistence on praising the leaders of Turkey & Qatar, which may be diplomatic bluff, is still pretty annoying

      • @Infidel: I think you’re right. Trump wants to deal, not fight. It shows all over the place with him. And so he sends 6 Spirits to Diego Garcia to strongarm Iran into destroying their own system, but he will not use them, and if the barbarians figure that out he can kiss his deal goodbye.

        President Theodore Roosevelt once said ‘Speak softly but carry a big stick’. This dump has a foul mouth and shouts it out (‘They kiss my ass’: he really said it, wow!, I couldn’t believe it), but I don’t for a minute believe he will send in the Spirits. In everything the opposite of Roosevelt.

        • Even supposing a leader is a really great guy, by having the greatest narcissistic ego, huge problems emerge. The greatest ego praisers and strokers will get what they want. Greater praise will out do the last praise. If praise isn’t even greater but by passage of time, will get also what they want. Ego people can be manipulated.
          Ego people by such, are changing and never dependable and they by passage of time turn against friends. We are in deep Doo Doo.

    • Big ego people can be dangerous as often whoever strokes that ego best gets what they want. There can be sudden shifts of behavior as a better ego stroker shows up.

      We don’t need to start or fight any wars (although it begs the question then of why we were bombing Houthis). But we should avoid strong-arming other countries into diplomatic moves that are either against their interests, or which they do not want to make

      Nobody above has suggested that we start a war w/ Iran: just either take out their nuke facilities ourselves, or let Israel do it. This has been done before – by Israel in Iraq in 1981 and then in Syria some years ago when Israel bombed a nuke facility there. Both Saddam and Bashar remained in power after that: there was no war or regime change that resulted

On an electoral plane, all this is the result of US Jews being a locked vote for Dems – voting 66% (D) in November – vs US muslims being willing to tilt the vote in Trump’s favor in Michigan (although I’ve read that their numbers there are far fewers, and that what flipped Michigan for Trump was the union vote). Obviously, that tells Trump that he has more to gain from servicing muslims than from servicing Jews. Although he should decouple Jews & Israel, since US Jews do precisely that

    In the meantime, Republican Jews ought to put pressure on the president to not block Israel in what it needs to do, be it in Gaza or Iran

  12. Trump has shown concern for humanity in all countries. Those who say he is cowardly may have never seen the results of bombing and the toll it places on human life. I believe right now he is measured and wants to be sure that bombing Iran is the only option left open. All of our assets are staged right now and the ball is in Iran’s court. Trump is also starving their economy and perhaps is waiting to see it the citizens of Iran are up to ousting the Mullahs and restoring some common sense to that nation. As for the post regarding Winston Churchill, he was always known to exaggerate the situation with his biting comments.
