There is a rising tide of anti-immigration sentiment in Ireland: “‘We’re being taken for fools’: How soaring migration came back to bite Ireland’s political elite,” by Michael Murphy, Telegraph, March 30, 2025:
By early 2025, the impact was undeniable: tourist visits to Ireland had dropped 30 per cent year-on-year. Spending fell even further. “I was called a fascist, a Nazi – now the taoiseach says illegal migration is out of control,” Treyvaud says. “The same thing I was saying 18 months ago.”
The government appeared slow to grasp the scale of public discontent. As far back as February 2024, immigration had already overtaken housing as the nation’s top concern. A poll found more than a third of voters would support a hardline immigration party.
A hostile electorate and legal challenges softened the government’s approach. It held off on placing asylum seekers in areas where locals had protested, and issued more muscular statements on the need for deportations.
The election showed that discontent [with immigration] was deeply entrenched. All three major parties – including the ostensibly nationalist but pro-mass-migration Sinn Féin – lost vote share or stagnated. Turnout fell to 60 per cent, the lowest since the foundation of the state. The Greens, widely blamed for coalition failings, were wiped out.
Several independent and small-party candidates running on migration and housing surged. Aontú, one of the few immigration-sceptic parties in the Dáil, doubled its vote share in some areas.
The drop in turnout was a sign that much of the electorate — 40% — did not bother to vote because it has completely lost faith in the government’s willingness to confront the immigration question. Of those who did vote, the pro-migration party Sinn Fein lost votes, while votes soared for the anti-immigration party Aontù.
Aontù’s leader, Peadar Tóibín, says voters are waking up. Migrants have at times been given priority for housing, health, and transport. That must end, he says….
What “must end,” of course, is not just the mad policy of privileging immigrants over the native Irish when it comes to housing, health, and transport, but immigration itself, or more exactly, Muslim immigration. Ireland has been dutifully parroting the Muslims in its anti-Israel policy, more cravenly than any other country in Europe. But that hasn’t spared it the vast influx of Muslims who arrive intending to take full advantage of every benefit the Irish state provides. Ireland is in a mess, and that mess is a direct result of that influx of Muslim immigrants who cannot possibly, and do not want to, integrate into the larger society of non-Muslims.
As Tóibín sees it, the establishment is now being “pulled kicking and dragging back towards centre”, because they “had a reckoning with their electorate – who are fed up with virtue signalling and woke politics, from a uniform establishment distracted from bread and butter issues.”
Tóibín doesn’t say it, but what he surely has in mind is the hypertrophied attention Irish politicians have been giving to the war in Gaza, and their very public embrace of the Palestinians and their rejection of Israel, as the embattled Jewish state fights its seven-front war. All this is “virtue signalling and woke politics,” characterized by the Irish leaders taking the side of the “oppressed Palestinians.”
Back in Dublin, Gavin Pepper keeps driving his taxi, and keeps speaking his mind. Some Dubliners recognise him and honk their horns. Many believe he is saying what others won’t. “Ireland belongs to the Irish,” Pepper insists. “Sinn Féin says Palestine belongs to the Palestinians – but we’re told Ireland belongs to everyone?” It’s the kind of message that now finds a warm reception in Washington. The question is: how far will it travel at home?
The Irish emigrants who in the 19th century went mainly to the United States, Canada, and Australia were not going in order to take advantage of welfare benefits — there were no welfare benefits in those days. That is one way to distinguish them from the Muslim migrants today. A second difference is that the Irish emigrants went overseas prepared to work hard, and to integrate into the societies that took them in. Muslim immigrants arriving in Ireland are more interested in what the welfare state will provide them, and less interested in working for a living when so much is made available to them for free. As for integrating into the larger society, the Muslim immigrants to Ireland know that they are the “best of peoples” and the Irish, as Infidels, “the most vile of created beings.” That being the case, why should they want to integrate into a society reflecting the values of Infidels?

This “positive” action is what happened to some extent in America last November 5th with Trump winning the popular vote, 312 Electoral College votes and all seven swing states, but the forces of stupidity and elitism (often duplicative)) are still at it in America thwarting the peoples’ will in the USA and so the same should be, must be, expected in Ireland and so many other Western nations who are presently led by fools aplenty who are, effectively, destroying Western Civilization, easily the greatest civilization of all time, no contest, right before our eyes for one indefensible reason after another.
Hell, when even the Catholic Church, historically a bulwark of Western Civilization from antiquity onwards, is led by a monumentally malicious fool as it is now, one knows or should know that the West is in deep, deep trouble, just as the most powerful nation on Earth, America, now has one of its two major political parties in full betrayal mode of wonderful things like Western Civilization (which it actually despises), the American Constitution (which four-time Prime Minister of the UK, William Gladstone, called the single greatest document ever created by man) and common sense.
My God, the West is presently in so much trouble, whether in Ireland, America, the UK, France, Germany, Australia, et al. And the West either successfully comes out of this trouble or it will be ultimately plunged into the darkest of dark ages it has ever experienced, making the Dark Ages of ancient Greece and the Dark Ages of early medieval Europe look like no more than a pause in the advance of the West. Dire times no doubt.

My sentiments exactly. Unfortunately, our elites are so used to being critical of the West that they cannot see that what is going to replace it is far worse than the West, and they themselves won’t like it. However, it is impossible to get through to them about this.
It is long past time for all non-Muslims in the West to join together and to make it clear that Muslims will not be taking over.

The Irish Republic I would assume, as members of the EU, should also be signatories of the European Council on Human Rights ECHR.
I have said before that Article 9 which allows for the practice of Religion is a qualified right.
Read it yourself.
Section 2 of that article states in effect that in a democratic country the practice of a religion should not interfere with public morals, health and safety and not infringe the rights and freedoms of others.
Islam does every one of these damned things.
A big aspect of the threat by mass immigration is the importation of Muslims into countries where their beliefs and practices are incompatible with the native population.
And the ECHR, even back in 1950 recognised the damage religions can do if unchecked.
Human rights lawyers are making mint protecting their unworthy clients from deportation – money from the pockets of tax payers the UK and I guess Ireland too.
It is about time the hallowed and vaunted ECHR articles were used to protect the rights of ordinary citizens, not operate to their detriment.
My view for what it’s worth.

The IRA were receiving a lot of money from US citizens which seemed to come to a halt only after 9/11. We can ponder why, but the IRA seemed to fizzle out soon after.
Will Irish descended Americans stand by while their cousins are being overwhelmed in the old country ?
In a recent anti immigration demonstration in Belfast there were folk from the Republic supporting them and Belfast Catholics alongside Protestants.
The Irish tricolour has also been seen at Patriotic rallies in London.
It seems that old enemies are finding common ground.

If there is no actual violent take over there will at least be, as you suggest demands for societal change to suit Islam.
This is also what is happening in Britain in blatant plain sight.
The problem is that so much of our population are woefully ignorant of the potential of Islam to crush all else. The ordinary Joe who is not religious sees Islam, if he sees it at all, as just another religion – so what ? And atheists don’t care anyway.
But of course there are two huge problems threatening Ireland, in the UK and across Europe.
Islam yes – but mass immigration is not all Muslim.
Third world people arriving, demanding, overwhelming.
The Titanic life boats, full already, people clinging to the sides and fighting for space.
There is only one logical outcome.
We all go down or – more likely -only the strongest and most violent and brutal survive.

In the 1960s Lebanon used to be a majority Christian country. Beirut was once known as the Paris of the Middle East. But it had a very big problem – a large % of Muslims. In the 1970s the Muslims acted to seize control of Lebanon and rolling civil war happened. Lebanon is now in ruins, and has now ben for decades. Lebanon is the litmus test for UK, Ireland, Belgium, Holland. Sweden, France, Germany etc. Once Islam has a critical mass it will then take over its host country by violent means adopting guerilla warfare. Islam eventually destroys its host and quite frankly it does not care.
