The candidates for Canadian prime minister recently debated regarding Israel and the war in Gaza: “Poilievre vows UNRWA funding cut over Hamas ties, Carney wants to maintain it,” by Michael Starr, Jerusalem Post, April 17, 2025:
Liberal Party leader Carney said that he agreed with Singh that there were only a few organizations operating in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas War, and he would continue to fund UNRWA.
“We are in a situation that we need an immediate ceasefire, we need to have all the hostages returned, and we need to resume humanitarian aid to Gaza,” said Carney. “We have $100 million that is ready to be given to organizations working there.”
Mark Carney still doesn’t get it. The organization that controls Gaza, and aid to Gaza, is Hamas, that in the past has take a great deal of whatever aid is delivered to the Strip for itself, and the only way to prevent that it is to have the IDF, or private groups unconnected to Hamas, both deliver the aid to Gaza and remain in charge of distributing it. Carney calls for “an immediate ceasefire,” which, of course, is exactly what Hamas wants. But the IDF is determined to further dismantle Hamas until it can no longer pose a military threat; a ceasefire now, when Hamas is on the ropes, would undo the IDF’s effort, with Hamas “saved by the bell” that Mark Carney is already ringing.
Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet said that there was a unique situation in Canada and Quebec, with “the Jewish community are victims of radical Islamists” but “the Palestinians are currently victims of terrible violence from the Israeli regime. We have to help people in distress.”’
The Jews of Canada are not victims of “radical Islamists,” but of Muslims, tout court, joined in an unseemly alliance with far-left haters of the West who see Israel, absurdly, as a “colonial-settler state,” and with far-right antisemites of the old school. The Palestinians are not, pace Blanchet, “victims of terrible violence from the Israeli regime.” The IDF makes tremendous efforts to minimize harm to civilians in Gaza. It warns civilians away from places about to be targeted. By last March, the IDF had dropped nine million leaflets, sent fifteen million text messages, and made sixteen million robocalls in this effort. The commander of the British forces in Afghanistan, Colonel Richard Kemp, having studied how the IDF has been conducting its war in Gaza (and in previous campaigns as well) has concluded that “the IDF is the most moral army in the world.” West Point Professor of Urban Studies John Spencer has similarly noted that “Israel has done more and implemented more measures to prevent civilian harm than any military in the history of urban warfare.”
Yves-François Blanchet continued:
“Palestine will not become Mar-a-Lago for Americans that want to relax on the coast,” referencing President Donald Trump’s resort and residence and his proposal to take stewardship of and develop Gaza. “We have to see where the money goes, we have to see how much money is taken by Hamas — it is maybe less now, but it was huge in the past. A lot of money was taken from the Palestinians — we have to help the Palestinians at the end of the day.”
At least Blanchet recognizes that Hamas has been stealing food and other humanitarian aid for itself. He may also know about — it’s not clear from his statement about the “huge” amounts of “money that was taken from the Palestinians” — the $14 billion that was stolen by just four leaders of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, the late Ismail Haniyeh, Mousa Abu Marzouk, and the late Yahya Sinwar. Every leader of every country that has been providing money to support the people of Gaza should be demanding that those Hamas leaders, or their heirs, should return the $14 billion that they stole to a group whose sole reason for being will be to distribute that money directly to families in Gaza.

as an observer of ottawa for some 60 years since the days of CBC ‘The Nation’s Business’, holder of a BS poli sci McMaster U Hamilton ’95, a participant in the electoral process scrutineer, and ‘student’ literally and figuratively of history, it genuinely baffles me why Liberals in 2025 garner so much support from Canadians given the atrocious record of corruption, mismanagement and divisiness from the previous unnamed leader and prime minister.

And yet we kept pouring money into Palestine even when we knew it was being syphoned off by Hamas. Indirectly we were contributing to atrocities against the Jewish people.Help the people of Palestine who are not Hamas or Hamas supporters but otherwise no! But as of now we have no guarantees as to where the money will go in future and we already know where most of it has gone.

I f this individual Carny is ever to become Canadian leader , and thus implements his global policies , we will have major problems , his policies will come at expense of democracy , or what our vets have fought so hard for .
