New in PJ Media:
America’s socialist sweetheart, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Swizzle Stick), recently raised eyebrows among leftists and patriots alike when she was seen enjoying a first-class flight on her way to speak at, of all things, an event of fellow socialist Bernie Sanders. Observers at both ends of the political spectrum thought AOC was being more than a little hypocritical in preaching about income inequality while enjoying all the creature comforts of a first-class flight. Shouldn’t a dedicated fighter for the proletariat be flying among the workers she cherishes?
The New York Post reported Monday that “an incredulous passenger” took a photo of the up-and-coming young Bolshevik as she was “getting comfy in the roomy first-class cabin of JetBlue Flight 511 on March 19 that departed from JFK Airport in Queens for Las Vegas, where she spoke at a Sanders rally titled ‘Fighting Oligarchy.’” She also rallied with the irascible old socialist “in North Vegas and at Arizona State University in Tempe.”
A woman on the flight who was flying in economy class with the real common folk whom AOC professes to champion remarked: “Nothing says, ‘Power to the people’ like ignoring voters looking to say hello and reclining in first class while tweeting about income inequality. AOC is fighting the system one first-class mimosa at a time.”
Now, don’t get me wrong. No capitalist would think there is anything wrong with flying first class. Capitalists and socialists alike would question, however, preaching equity, which means a great levelling of all distinctions between people and all services offered to them, such that a first-class cabin wouldn’t even exist on airplanes, and then enjoying the same benefits that one insists should not even exist.
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) remarked that “socialists are hypocrites. I’m surprised she didn’t take a private jet like most of her comrades.” New York State Conservative Party chairman Gerard Kassar said that AOC was demonstrating that she is “out of touch with her principles. It’s absolutely rich in hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is the operative word.”
That’s certainly what it appears to be, but AOC’s first-class flight is not actually a sign of hypocrisy on her part. For socialists, enjoying the perks that they deny to the masses is not a bug; it’s a feature. In practice, socialism and Marxism don’t really involve what leftist leaders such as AOC, Bernie, and Barack Obama say they mean, that is, actually spreading the wealth around. The wealth is spread around only to the ruling class. Socialism means that the wealth of those who have no political power is confiscated for the benefit of those who do have political power. That’s the way leftists always behave when they’re firmly ensconced in power.
There is more. Read the rest here.

As Andrew Wilkow often says, “Socialism is not for the Socialists: it’s for everybody else”

All socialism does is spread the poor.

There is clearly much hypocrisy amongst socialists but I don’t see this necessarily as being an example of it.
There are many reasons why an ordinarily frugal person would elect to fly 1st class — the most obvious ones being that they had work to do on the flight or need to be well rested for an engagement at the other end.
That being said, socialists (and capitalists too, of course) like to make full use of their “entitlements”.
It seems to be a habit amongst elected officials of every political stripe. In that sense they are all a bunch of hypocrites as they all cry out to being most supportive of the masses.

Difference though is that Capitalists don’t begrudge anyone flying first class, or getting rich (legally) or earning privileges through various activities. It’s socialists who do that, who think that everybody should have equal privileges, and promote class envy. Just like Bernie and AOC

I’m not defending socialists. I’m just pointing out that socialist elected officials are elected officials first and socialists second. It is a rare, very rare, elected official who passes on the perks.

Rarely,
If AOC had paid for the first-class ticket out of her own pocket, I would not have a problem with it.
But even if she did, the optics are bad.
tgusa says
She is a climate change kook James. The carbon footprint by flying first class is vastly larger than flying coach. So yes I do have a problem with it even if she paid out of her own pocket.

The dimwit loudmouth also criticized Florida for not following the twisted league in masking and keeping home “spreaders” while she went to Florda with her boyfriend for a vacation….in the open air, sunshine, and no masking.
she may be a socialist first, but she’s also a hypocrite of the first order.
tgusa says
I know. I never took the clot shot. Only wore the mask because I had to in order to go in to places. Bought a few masks will cool graphics on them. Refused to wash my hands afterwards, just because. I feel so good today.
somehistory says
I never took one either, none of my family….of which I am aware….did.
Like you, I put on the mask when I had to see a doctor for my eyes, etc..
There were so many ordering us to wear and get shot, but they had all kinds of fun and outings without following their own dictates.
tgusa says
A doctor I see asked me if I had taken the shot but after he saw the look I gave him he never asked me again.
tgusa says
In mid 2020 I was in the CCU for five days with a plaque clot in my femoral artery. I was surrounded by patients on ventilators. All the nurses were masked and when one would come in my room they would say, you are supposed to be wearing your mask. I always asked them, what does it matter, you are wearing yours.
somehistory says
Good for you. While it was all the rage to get shot with what was labeled an experiment….which I think they knew what was expected to happen and it wasn’t good…my daughter had to see her doctor and the subject of the *vaccinations* came up.
He said he was told to get the vials, but then told that he had to make big changes to his office in order to get them. So at great expense, he made the changes and then was told he wasn’t going to get any.
He sounded very much like a skeptic regarding the government’s claimed intentions.
I was asked in a grocery store if I wanted the shots, but I was never asked by a doctor if I had gotten one.
James Lincoln says
tgusa,
With respect, I’m having a hard time following your logic.
Theoretically:
On a given flight, if all of the first-class seats were empty, would it have a lower carbon footprint than if they were all full?
Stated another way:
Assuming the same number of passengers, would the plane use less jet fuel?
tgusa says
James. Think of how many people they could have wedged in to first class. All those people will have to take another fight which increases the carbon footprint of air travel. Yes, first class, empty or full, increases the carbon footprint. Not that I care because I dont. It is just the climate kook Alex and her save the planet bs that irks me. Save the planet you peons while I take two seats in first class!
tgusa says
And what I find very strange is all this talk about carbon is bad, on a carbon based planet. What will they say next? H2O is killing the planet?
somehistory says
Yes, besides the fact that all life on earth is carbon-based, plants need the dioxide part to live and make more oxygen.
tgusa says
Yes the carbon dioxide (as you implied, plant food) aversion is troublesome. Do the Greens support the assault on CO2? If they do they should rename themselves the Browns.
James Lincoln says
Thanks for your reply, tgusa.
I do see where you’re coming from.
tgusa says
In the Grocery store? You should have said, shut up and sell me those bananas.
somehistory says
I just said ‘no’ and kept walking.
tgusa says
Back in the day it was limousine liberals. Today we have Prada progressives. I wonder if she bought the Prada baseball cap (regenerated nylon yarn produced from recycled purified plastic trash collected in the ocean) for a meager 695.00 US. Alex is heading to the Bernie “fight the oligarchy” tour. Bernie devised his plan to fight the oligarchy in one of his four mansions. If you want lots of Prada and many mansions go in to politics as a democrat.
OLD GUY says
A.O.C. is just another loud mouth liberal who’s sole reason for being in politics is to make herself wealthy.

She certainly wouldn’t be the first one to do so.
Politicians, as a whole, enjoy the perks and are surprisingly (?) unwilling to give any of them up — regardless of their political stripe.

I get so tired of seeing the lovely term “socialist” bandied about. Such a nice sounding word covering up a very bad world view. Same thing “progressive”
tgusa says
I appears that Alex has realized that flying first class produced bad optics, so she took a private plane home.
