Is this what we should be spending money on?
Last week I covered the story of a Voice of America attack on the David Horowitz Freedom Center written by a former Afghan Jihadist. This week, another VOA story struck me, this one carrying a headline you expect to see in the Taliban Times, not in a government media organization with ‘America’ in its name.
Taliban refute Trump’s claim of Chinese control over Afghan base as ‘emotional’ – Voice of America
The Taliban challenging the president’s account may be a story, but describing them as ‘refuting it’ is taking sides and once again, the Voice of America picks the anti-American side.
The VOA story offers nothing more than the Taliban’s flat denial. That’s a denial, not a refutation.
US News and World Report had previously reported that China was conducting a study about deploying troops to Bagram. The Taliban themselves had announced a plan to turn former bases into ‘special economic zones’ for various countries including China. And the VOA had reported on that story.
We all complain about media bias, but the VOA is government media. It operates under the U.S. government and yet it’s pushing enemy propaganda.
How much are U.S. taxpayers on the hook for Ayaz Gul, a fellow in Pakistani, relaying that the Taliban ‘refuted’ Trump?
And is that we should be spending money on?
Wellington says
This article by Daniel Greenfield just demonstrates how deep the Swamp in DC really is, here including the VOA. I’ve come to the conclusion that many in American government, whether at the federal, state or local level, hate Trump so much because he is trying to correct the enormous rot that exists in American government (again from the federal to the most local levels) that they will do or say anything to destroy this man. They like things just as they are, which is to say rotten and crooked.
Such people will do anything, even to the extent of harming their own interests temporarily, just in order to destroy the one man who is trying to take the American Republic back to sanity, efficiency and other good “stuff.” And I would include here among the many Trump haters several outside of the American government, as examples a huge amount in the academic, media and business worlds, who also are just fine with continuing the mega-rot that exists in America because it benefits them, elites that they are, but not Americans as a whole.
Every time I think Trump could not be opposed more so than he is, I realize that, yes, he can be. My God, we see it on a daily basis from one sector of American society to another.
Trump is America’s best shot to make America “sober” again. So many don’t want to be sober. Not one bit. “Participants” like a huge number of federal workers, the barons on Wall Street, the ever deceitful MSM, and most certainly the teacher unions relish a permanently drunk America. You bet they do.
Al Tubinger says
You are so correct. I live in one of the bluest states in the US. There is so much hate against Trump. When I worked for the federal government I felt out of place cause I wasn’t A hard core lazy left.winger.

Al,
When I worked in US Civil Service, my general impression was that 20% of the workers did 80% of the work.
It sounds like both of us were one of the 20%…

All true, Wellington.
Rob Porter says
I suggest that Robert Spencer contact Marco Rubio or Tulsi Gabbard, to let the know that Islamisrs have some control in VOA.

Perhaps Mr. Musk and his team will find out and put a stop to it. Unless some mozlum ‘judge’ in some circuit interferes.
If that happens, it will at least let more people know how their money is being spent.
we can all recall that bo put a lot of mozlums in various departments and government agencies. And biden promised to do that on a larger scale. Now we see what they have been doing.

At least you don’t have t pay a licence fee for the privilege as with the BBC.

VOA is actually the radio broadcast of the US government to foreign targets. It’s different from NPR, which is government radio targeted domestically, or PBS, which is government TV targeted domestically. Don’t know about VOA, but NPR and PBS are programming by academics for pointy headed intellectuals in the US, and are not followed by the mass market. BBC in Britain seems to be a union of what VOA, PBS and NPR are in the US
Incidentally, do y’all still have to pay license fees, if you don’t have a cable or satellite connection to your TV, but only an internet connection that lets you visit any website, including social media sites? What if you are somebody who has YouTube on your TV, via say Amazon Fire, and only watch, say, GBN there? Do you still have to pay license fees?
England Invaded says
I see.
You only have to pay the license fee if watching live broadcast TV or the BBC iplayer for live or catch up TV
Live over broadcast or via the internet in anyway, they demand a license fee.
Catch up via other companies, no licence needed.
Streaming services with their own content, no licence required. Unless they decide to provide something considered to be a live broadcast of course.
But say if watching GBN live in any way, a licence is demanded. If watching their catch up on their site or Youtube, no licence.
Utterly ridiculous isn’t it.
Many people have stopped paying the licence, so a flat tax is certainly on it’s way to keep funding the traitors.

Thanks for spelling it out
I consume news, but I don’t need real time news. I’m happy to watch the feed of a program on YouTube after it is done. For instance, when Mark Steyn was on GBNews, I’d watch his show after it was over, and had been uploaded. Granted it was an hour later, but I was not worse off for it
During events like an election, real time news might be ideal, and worth following the live feeds. But other than that, from what you described, there is no reason anyone should feel like they have to pay license fees

some of us knew this back then
“Obama Justice Dept., John Kerry ‘systematically derailed’ FBI probe of Iranian terrorists while pursuing nuclear deal: whistleblowers”
“WASHINGTON — The Obama administration “systematically derailed” an FBI probe into Iranian terrorists — with then-Secretary of State John Kerry “personally” interfering to block arrests to score a nuclear-weapons pact with Tehran, show newly released bombshell emails.
Freshly declassified FBI communications from 2015 and 2016 reveal how officials in then-President Barack Obama’s Justice and State departments stopped federal agents from enforcing US sanctions on Iran and set up “a shadow amnesty program that protected scores of additional Iranian criminals.”
…….”“Secretary of State [Kerry] personally told DOJ officials that they were to stand down on an arrest,” a disclosure stated, directly contradicting his sworn testimony to Congress in July 2015 that Iran was being “restrained” from implementing its missile programs.”

Like NPR and PBS, there isn’t a legitimate need for VOA. In this internet era, foreigners who are interested in knowing more about the US, especially geopolitically, can find that out by going to YouTube or Rumble and hearing directly from their chosen experts in various realms
Recognize that this, like mainstream cable & broadcast TV, is a thing that is only alive b’cos of some elderly people who can’t manage w/o it. Even there, I have read dozens of stories about such people, who, once they get shown by their grandkids how to use things like Roku or Sling, make the leap and never look back. So the end of these media – both TV and Radio – will come sooner rather than later, b’cos their current user base is dying off, and they’re not likely to get younger users. For the latter, already internet broadband enables people to discover video content either on social media platforms like YouTube or X or Rumble, and audio content on platforms like Apple, Spotify, Amazon and others
Yeah, I heard something on Wilkow about AM Radio being indispensable for emergency situations, but I’m not convinced. Given that AM signals are the weakest in radio transmission and easiest to block, as anyone who has driven through a tunnel while listening to an AM station would have noticed the signal disappearing completely until s/he emerges from that tunnel
NPR, PBS and VOA all need to come under the DOGE chainsaw. I like Kari Lake, but give her another job in the administration that is actually needed!

Infidel –
You are on the same wavelength as Musk and Trump.
Lake never made it to VOA.

Thanks for the update
As for Brent Bozell, I’m a bit surprised, as he was pretty anti-Trump in 2016, and I didn’t know if he had changed. I had no idea that this job required Senate approval

Im pleased to say many thousands of Brits are on same wavelength, for me as a limey, Mr T can run England, he has done amazing things so far, and VOA will likely be in his sights.
See todays reporting in UK on a proposed new Law which says ethnic minorities will get a lesser sentence than real UK folks. Yes these so called deprived sections of our green & pleasant land will get a break. Prison numbers confirm the unbalanced numbers of immigrants jailed. The tens of thousands of illegals are not receiving any jail time for entering illegally. MP,s over last 40 years are responsible for the position we are in, not being able to deport thousands of economic invaders, pulled by the freebies we provide, whilst veterans sleep in doorways.

Thank you for your responses infidel and Check Burry.
Check, I was in the London area in for many weeks in the ‘70s.
Had several Brit friends, and so enjoyed that culture. Today I am disturbed at the malignancy invading it.
One beautiful afternoon we were in a crowded Hampstead Heath when suddenly most everyone disappeared. “Tea time!” The nearby tea shops were overflowing just like that. I wonder how that’s going today with Ramadan.
Even then in the early ‘70s, I was struck by how many obviously “non-natives” lived there.

@Mr. Greenfield: Please note that the word ‘media’ is the plural of the word ‘medium’, so it’s not ‘(…) the VOA is government media.’ This should be: ‘the VOA is a government medium.’

Kari Lake, who now leads the Voice of America, needs to weigh in on this…

James-
It’s already being done by Trump and Musk; Lake re-assigned for a more effective role, I think.
