If the talks that are going on b/w Trump and Putin lead to a restoration of Russo-US relations the way it was before 2014, then geopolitically, it makes more sense for US to ally w/ Russia. Their people are nowhere near as woke as Europe, and we don’t have the sort of trade disputes that we have w/ everyone else, be it Canada, EU, China, India, et al. If we can ink such an alliance, we can finally give the 🖕 to all our current “allies”

I have one technical Internet question for you that is beyond my level of understanding. Robert Spencer mentioned that Jihad Watch is “blocked” in the UK, as well as some other European countries.
How is it technically possible for a country to “block” a specific website? Are there not “workarounds” that UK citizens could use in order to access the “blocked” website?

Generally, IP addresses – the address of your computer (just run “ipconfig” on a command prompt if you are in Windows, or “ifconfig” if you’re on a Mac to find out yours) have their locations – have locations. Services on the internet can be “geofenced” ie restricted to only certain countries, or even provided everywhere except to certain countries. For instance, when major movies used to be released in different markets, they would be released first here in the States, then their release would be staggered in other markets, such as in Europe, Asia and so on
Similarly, in the UK, internet regulatory authorities could easily blacklist whichever websites they didn’t want. They could either do a blanket ban of everything from a country, or just from select websites.
Conversely, I recall some years ago when Robert mentioned that he blocked Pakistan, b’cos that’s where most DDOS attacks, as well as death threats, were coming from
As for workarounds, VPNs are the way one connects. Essentially, one connects to a VPN server in another country, and that server connects to the destination website that the user wants. The website sees only the VPN’s address as the one making the request, while the encryption provided by the VPN prevents internet spoofing tools from scanning what the end destination website is
The way to describe it is if hypothetically you wanted to send a letter to Ed Snowden, and you didn’t want it intercepted in the US. So you put it in an envelope addressed to Snowden, w/ his address, but put that envelope in another envelope w/ another address of someone in Russia who agrees to forward your mails. He gets the package, opens the outer envelope, takes out the inner envelope and mails it, and it ultimately gets to Snowden. Who responds in a similar way. That way, the USPS has no idea who you really were writing to: thinks you were only communicating w/ the intermediary
