This is so great: everyone coming together, and learning to love and understand each other — why, peace will dawn upon the world any minute now! And when is the major Christian celebration inside a significant religious or cultural landmark in a Muslim country? I’ll buy a ticket!

Also, as for the Islamic influence on Shakespeare’s world, it is, as is so often the case with things of this kind, wildly exaggerated. Shakespeare’s England viewed Islam with horror and fear after centuries of jihad warfare upon Europe from the Ottoman Empire.

On Sunday evening, hundreds of Muslims and non-Muslims came together at the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on South Bank to break their fast and celebrate Ramadan, as part of the Ramadan Tent Project’s annual Open Iftar event.

This gathering marked a moment of unity, fostering connection and understanding among people from diverse backgrounds.

Since 2013, the Ramadan Tent Project has been organizing Open Iftar fast-breaking events in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as a way to bring together communities and encourage dialogue about Islam.

These events allow people from different walks of life to share a meal, learn more about the faith, and celebrate the spirit of compassion and solidarity during Ramadan.

Iftar, which takes place after the evening call to prayer at sundown, marks the end of the daily fast for Muslims, and is typically an occasion for family and friends to come together.

The Globe Theatre, renowned for its historic connection to Shakespeare, served as a fitting venue for the event, especially given its embrace of diverse cultures, including Muslim heritage….

    “the spirit of compassion ” There is no such thing in islime. Otherwise, those two little boys….and all of the other little babies and children, their parents, grandparents and friends….would still be alive, but instead they were violently slaughtered by mozlums who wanted to show everyone how powerful they are.

        • Yes, Hudders. We must pray fervently, and as the Bible says, “incessantly.” There are many examples in the Bible where God’s faithful did so during trying times such as we face. And they received answers. We must not give up.

  5. Maybe they could have reenacted “The Merchant of Venice”, but rewriting it for the Prince of Morocco to win Portia’s hand. Then show Portia convert to islam, don a niqab and then strip Shylock of his wealth at the court, and finally have Portia & her owner husband celebrate ruining a Jew

    In fact, coming to think of it, it wouldn’t have looked much different from the original play where only Christians did the Jew-hating

    • Shakespeare was influenced by antisemitism, no doubt, but Shylock is a much more humanized character than you would ever find under Islam.

    Today’s England’s majority population views political Islam with fear for its threat to human rights and its growing influence of Semitophobia, Christianophobia and Hinduism. Neo-Ottoman, via Erdogan’s genocidal Turkey is evident in the jihadist terrorists of “Syria” butchering, burning, looting, raping and killing children and women by the thousands in the sea coast (that Turkey wants to control).

    Horrific videos taken with “pride” and Allah Akbar cries of these Islamist terrorists before killing in cold blood their civilian victims must have been as barbaric to Shakespeare’s England as it is now in its new “glory”.

    And EU will soon be Islamicised unless they start reading their history and view with horror today’s Political Islam and its sworn fatwa to destroy all Jews and march to Jerusalem with neo-Ottoman swagger!
    Shame for the EU to tolerate Islamists and, in England(!), to open even the Palace to Political Islam’s destructive goals that will eventually prompt EU to commit geostrategic hara-kiri for the sake of Sultan Erdogan’s neo-Ottoman barbaric nightmare.

    Good God, what a load of tripe. The main influence of Islam on Europe was defending against it, and the only “positive” thing might be the influence of mostly Greek-speaking scholars who fled to the West after the fall of Constantinople in 1453–clearly a mixed blessing at best.

    Shakespeare himself did not have a paricularly positve view of Islam, for good reason. Othello is an ambivalent character, and there are a few references to the Islamic world in The Merchant of Venice. The only really positive view of the Islamic world was its wealth in spices and Oriental goods for traders.

    To hold this *at the Globe* could not be more perverse–and it just allows Muslims to claim another great Infidel space.
