One of the most important annual global forums working to advance gender equality and women’s rights is this year controversially being chaired by Saudi Arabia.

The 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) commenced on Monday with representatives from each of the 45 Member States presiding at the UN Headquarters in New York to mark 30 years since the landmark adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

It comes a year after the commission unanimously elected Saudi Arabia as chair after being the only candidate within the Asia group.

Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a non-profit dedicated to holding the UN accountable to its founding principles, described the country’s role as chair of the commission as “surreal” and likened the decision to “putting Dracula in charge of the blood bank.”…

    • No, it is more technical than that. Somehow, for me, it’s only after the 4th or 5th comment that I post that all my previous comments appear. Also, in yesterday’s “This week in jihad” or the qur’an podcast w/ Hatun, Robert pointed out that this site has been under DDOS attacks from Iran

  3. Unless there is a women’s march on the UN headquarters, I’m assuming that most feminists don’t care one way or the other. That seems crazy, given feminists’ views on things in the past, but if they want their movement to die, so be it.

  4. Where does one begin with the UN Joke that the USA funds 1/4 of their budget and gets kicked in the teeth. UNIFIL that was set up to keep Hezbollah North of the Litani River. They were ordered to stay in their barracks and not shoot at anyone. UNRWA meant to bring relief to refugees, specifically Palestinians. 1/10 of the employees served a dual role as terrorists with Hamas & affiliates. They participated in the October 7 2023 massacre of Jewish civilians. UNHRC illuminating human rights abuses in the world. Most of the key members of this organization are the essential human rights abusers in the World. However tally up the number of sanctions, Israel population 7mm 5mm Jews 2mm Muslim/Christian, has more sanctions than the World combined! Does anyone find this curious? They should!
    I’m a proponent of both the USA and Israel leaving the UN, keeping the money at home to serve Our own and letting the UN sail off to Europe or where ever.

  5. To be fair, Saudi Arabia ain’t the worst country when it comes to women’s rights: they’ve relaxed a lot of the laws on things like driving, going out w/o a “mahram”, and so on. The UN could have done worse: it could have picked Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Iran to chair the body

    • Seriously, the Muslim world has no business talking about “women’s status”. Until they give women freedom from the hijab, FGM, education and basic human rights then Islam should never be able to voice anything on the females in Islam. Of course it’s never going to happen.

  6. Western countries are having a tough enough time in providing equal rights for women to be overly concerned with what other countries are doing. Of course putting SA in to chair the UN Commission on the Status of Women would be a step backwards — if there ever had been a step forward.

    • The only attacks on women’s rights today have been from the “T” part of the LGBTQIA2S+ movement: the social anarchists who want “trans-women” to be allowed into women’s private spaces, such as locker rooms, bathrooms, and so on. Other than that, Western countries are doing not just fine, but too well on women’s rights. If anything, it’s men’s rights in the Western world that is being steadily eroded

      The very existence of the UN Commission on the Status of Women needs to be questioned in the first place. All societies have their own norms and traditions, and expecting, say, women in Burundi to have the same status & rights as women in Canada is just ludicrous

  7. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the 50+ Islamic Countries are Terrorist States of discrimination, violence, and terrorism against Non-Muslims as taught in Islam’s Quran(Quran 9:5,29,111 and more).

    Non-Muslims CANNOT have peace with Islam, a Terrorist Enterprise, and its deceitful Muslims because Islam and its murderous god, Allah, demand a continuous Muslim war, a RELIGIOUS DUTY, against unbelievers where Non-Muslims are CRIMINALS under Islam due to illegal UNBELIEF and unlawful BLASPHEMY against Allah when despicable Allah in Qur’an 8:39 says, “And engage in war with them[Non-Muslims] until there will not be sedition and the religion will be completely to Allah…” HENCE, NON-MUSLIMS MUST MAKE ISLAM, ITS MOSQUES, ITS SCHOOLS, ITS COURTS, ETC. ILLEGAL UNDER THE LAW.

    Similarly, Islam and its many Organizations must be identified and publicly declared to be MUSLIM TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS(MTO) for their funding, teaching, and support of terrorism, violence, and discrimination against Non-Muslims(eg. Quran 3:151; 9:5,29,111 and more).

  8. The Islamic kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a kingdom of callous brutal misogyny of the most heinously heartless kind there is. Be it the vicious, malicious and murderous Islamic practice of what is so very inappropriately called in the Islamic world “honor killing” and also the brutal cruel , savage Islamic tradition so unfittingly called “female circumcision “ which is reality of female genital mutilation. And other Islamic evils.

    For example, on March 11, 2002 in Saudi Arabia a girls dorm caught on fire, the girls naturally rushed out of that dorm that was on fire. In their hast to escape the flames they forgot to take and put on their face veils. Those Islamic state police of Saudi Arabia with this totally unreasonable and heartless Islamic mindset forced all the girls back into the dorm that was on fire. Only because they didn’t have their face veils. So all those girls did a horrible painful death .This is worse than tragic and sad, this is the murderous misogyny of the Islamic kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    Furthermore that tragedy of the terrible burning to death of those young girls because of the cruel oppression of Islam’s “values” is a brutal reminder of the harsh reality is a reflection of the information revealed in the book by Brigitte Gabriel entitled THEY MUST BE STOPPED.

    Which informs the reader on page 171 “Control of behavior and disregard for human life are key elements in Islamic ideology.” Furthermore, on the very next page of this book ,it reveals “women in Islam are considered unclean , deemed inferior even to dirt.”

  9. An example of the very cruel misogyny in Islam is the Islamic nations as Saudi Arabia there is the brutal and vicious affront of Female Genital Mutilation which is spreading to Western nations .

    Now this hideous and vicious Islamic tradition of female butchery which some Muslims so inappropriately call “female circumcision’ has spread like an infectious disease as the coronavirus , even to the Western countries .

    This heinous Islamic custom of misogyny has been exposed in the book by Brigitte Gabriel which is entitled THEY MUST BE STOPPED. For on page 178 it reveals to the reader that “One of the most devastating practices to young girls of the Islamic world is female genital mutilation. Young girls have their clitoris removed without anesthesia…”

    Indeed, they must be stopped !

      It’s worth looking at how much we would save were we to withdraw from all UN organizations and agencies, as well as from NATO. In fact, leaving the latter would promote peace in Europe, as Russia would no longer feel threatened from Europe

    • $13 BILLION is a lot of money going into somebodies pocket.

      Saudi Arabia chairing the commission on the status of WOMEN has to be some kind of evil joke. Fixing the pot holes in my road would be a better use of my tax dollars than funding the UN.
