The shepherds of Yatta would sleep in caves in nearby grazing areas, rather than trekking back to the village each night. After the IDF closed off the area, the shepherds were permitted to continue grazing their flocks there; the IDF gave them a few days’ warning before live-fire exercises to insure that no one got hurt. The Palestinian Authority seized the opportunity – and began funding construction of permanent structures. Foreign interests jumped right in after them, funding infrastructure projects to support the “indigenous farmers” – laying water and electricity lines that enabled more and more people to set up homesteads on the “free” land.
Aerial images show this to be the case. Here are two such images from 1997 and 2021, showing a village in the area built from scratch.
The Israeli High Court ruled in 2022 that the people claiming they lived on the land for decades had no case – and that even their own evidence contradicted their claims!
For the sake of example, our focus will be on the aerial photographs of “Khirbet al-Fahit” presented by the respondents (“al-Fahit” according to the petitioners). In 1967 and 1981 the area was completely empty of buildings. Some development is evident during the years 1990 and 1991. In 2001 it is evident that a number of buildings were already built in Kharbit, and such were built more and more in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
An identical picture is revealed from the aerial photographs attached by the petitioners and even more clearly. It can also be seen that in 1972 and 1981 there is no evidence of buildings in the area compared to 2011, when there is a lot of construction on the site.
The same is true with regard to Khirbet Hilweh (“Al Hilweh” according to the petitioners). There is not much room to doubt that in the early years (1967, 1979, 1981 and even 1991) there is no evidence of construction on the site. However in the years 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012 more and more buildings and houses were built. There is a sharp and noticeable difference between the photos from the early period (in 1972, 1981 and even 1993) and the photo from 2011 in which construction can be clearly identified….
Far from the Arabs living on these lands since ancient times, or even for decades, there was no sign even of a single building on them until the 1990s, when a handful of impermanent shacks were put up by Arab shepherds, who had their real homes in other, long-established villages nearby. The slapdash structures the Arabs put up on state lands beginning in the 1990s were not their permanent residences, but intended to allow the Arabs to claim that they had lived there for a long time in villages that somehow had been overlooked by Israeli authorities. It was all a lie, and the Supreme Court exposed it. But the people who made “No Other Land” ignored the evidence, and accepted the Palestinian claim that Arabs had been living in “dozens of hamlets” on that land for a very long time.
The two Palestinians and two far-left Israeli Jews who made this movie knew perfectly well that they were presenting lies to help the Palestinians in their propaganda war with the state of Israel over land ownership in Judea and Samaria. Those who voted to give this pseudo-documentary an Oscar did violence to history and the truth. They did not investigate the cadastral record for the handful of hamlets that were built in the area known as Masaffer Yaffa. Had they done so, they would have discovered that the Arabs had not lived there, as they claim, “for generations,” and that at the time that the area became a military zone used for lDF live-fire training in 1981, there was not a single Arab living in that area. The Arabs moved onto this state-owned land, to which they had no title, beginning in the late 1990s. And now they refuse to leave, as the Israeli government has demanded, and have successfully convinced too many that the cruel Israeli expansionists are trying to throw them off the land that they have lived on “for generations.” The Israeli High Court heard all of the evidence, and in 2022, found the Arab claim without merit.
This award is a real pity, when so many truthful documentaries were in the running, and might have been recognized instead.

Many non-Muslim westerners who are already ‘primed’ to believe it – because of inherent Jew-hatred, or because they have been swallowing down a ceaseless stream of other similar nonsense-and-lies – will believe it; and it will be almost impossible to convince them otherwise. And because a Jewish person was involved in making it – quite possibly someone with a failed BS-detector (the late journalist Martha Gellhorn had an EXCELLENT BS-detector and NEVER took at face-value anything that a voluble tear-spouting mohammedan told her; she always ‘fact-checked’ if she possibly could, and every time she did, she discovered that the mohammedan had been peddling nonsense-and-lies, or as she dubbed it, ‘madhattery’) – the haters of Israel will be get extra mileage from it, because it will be claimed that this is a ‘good Jew’ who is telling the truth – the Truth – about all those eeeevil Joooooz.

On the specific matter of the two far-left Israeli Jews who helped make this propaganda documentary, no harm will come to them. But imagine two Arabs who participated in producing a documentary that in any manner helped establish the legitimacy of something Israel has done. Their very lives would be in danger.
In microcosm, the difference between so much—Judaism v. Islam, the Jewish world v. the Arab world and the Western world v. the Islamic world. And, sadly, there is no end in sight to all the “mischief” the “deficient” parties in these comparisons will continue to wrought (or, in full pun mode, “rot”). .

The problem ceases that Israel allowed them to remain in violation of the Oslo accords and the law. Also, the EU has been funding and enabling the construction of illegal buildings in area C for decades in violation of Oslo accords. Israel’s is sloppy about enforcing its agreements just as it has been with Egypt. Waiving of rights usually leads to losing those rights. It’s disgusting that Israeli Jews participated in this dangerous propaganda. The question is did they use artistic license or did they propagate libels to incite pogroms, like deliberately shouting fire in a crowded venue knowing there was no fire.

This film is intentionally deceptive because it shows law enforcement responding to a criminal act but omits depicting the criminal act. It’s like showing the cops pounce on a murderer but omitting the murder.

This fake propaganda “documentary” only documents the response to a crime and intentionally omits that a crime was committed. The Oscar committee should be sued for libel as the act of ommission is the same as an act of commission. It’s like showing the cops attacking and removing a murderer but omitting the fact of the murder, as if the cops attacked the murder without good reason. They removed illegal structures for good reason, they trespassed and built on land that they did not own and without building/zoning approval.

So the lefty members of the Academy voted propaganda film “No Other Land” as winner of the Oscar. The should have had Ricky Gervais as compere. They also voted “Anora” as Best Picture which included hundreds of four letter swear words. I was hoping “A Complete Unknown” would win Best Picture. Sad joke.
