Ireland of the Thousand Welcomes? Not if You’re Israeli

A dismal little tale from dear dirty Dublin, as James Joyce called it, where an Israeli visitor found himself spat upon, and sworn at, by two harridans, for the crime of being a Jew from Israel. Where’s that Cead mile failte we hear so much about? It’s Gaelic for “a hundred thousand welcomes.” When I did an Internet search for the phrase, I was provided with the following: “These words capture the welcoming heart and hospitality of the Irish people, and so the phrase has been celebrated for centuries.”

“Welcoming heart and hospitality”? Not so much for Tamir Ohayon, an Israeli on a business trip to Ireland. who was spat at and harassed by two local women while visiting Dublin. He shared on Instagram with a video of the interaction. “‘Zionists are not welcome in Ireland’: Israeli man spat on in Dublin restaurant,” by Danielle Greyman-Kennard, Jerusalem Post, March 15, 2025:

Israeli national Tamir Ohayon was spat at and harassed by two local women while visiting Dublin for a business trip, he shared on Instagram with a video of the interaction.

“My heart is truly broken THIS is Ireland in 2025,” Ohayon shared. “During my business trip to Dublin, me and my co-worker were assaulted by an organized group of girls for simply being Israelis.”

Ohayon claimed that before the filming began, one of the girls approached him and shared the information she had collected on him – including the hotel he was staying at.

Following the interaction, Ohayon shared that he struggled to sleep and moved to a new hotel.

The footage showed the two women raising their middle fingers at Ohayon while they yelled at him that he was not welcome in Ireland.

“Zionists are not welcome in Ireland,” the women told him. “F*** you and f*** Israel. Israel is on its way out.”

In response to the harassment, Ohayon responded, “I love you too” – which is when the women spat on him and later bragged that “I did it and I actually did not miss.”

After asking nearby staff to call the police, the women laughed over his description of the incident as an “attack.”

The women were identified by The Journal as pro-Palestinian activists Zeina Ismail and Lena Seale….

At least one of the two malefactors — Zena Ismail — is a Muslim, and possibly both are, for “Seale” may be Lena’s married name.

Unpleasant, uncouth, disgusting —that spitting in Ohayon’s face, that giving-the-finger, those f**k-yous, that sinister implied threat of “we-know-where-you’re-staying” — doesn’t all that, taken together, count as violence?

In stories uploaded since the video, Ohayon has shared the hateful messages he has received from Dublin locals, with some threatening “you are in danger.” Some have tracked down pubs that he visited during his time in the city, despite the fact that he did not tag the bar’s location.

Who are these Irish people on social media who’ve been sending their hate-filled screeds to Tamir Ohayon? And who are those, even more sinister, who are keeping close watch on Tamir Ohayon while he is in Dublin, finding what hotel he has been staying at and exactly which pubs he has been visiting? Why are they doing all this following of his every move, if not with miching mallecho on their minds?

  3. It’s very important to rightly define the definition of words and terms.

    Therefore, the definition of “Zionism” has been explained “The word refers simply to the right of the Jews to settle in their ancestral homeland, , the word ‘Zion,’ …. Is referring to God’s work through the Jewish people…” [1]

    For the Bible reveals, that God had given all this land that now composes the State of Israel, including all of the West Bank, to the Jewish people. This may be found in the Bible, as seen in, for example, Genesis 28:13-15. 35:10-12. Deuteronomy 32:48,49. Psalm 105:7-11. 135:4.

    In other words, the Jews have tall this land by Divine Right. Furthermore, the Jewish people should have this land by historic rights as shown in First Kings 4:20,21, 24,25. 8:55, 56.

  4. “all taken together”? It needs no more than the spitting if the Law is anything like U.S. Law.

    Spitting on another person…in the U.S…..is classified as assault. Since HIV and covid, it is even viewed more seriously than before HIV/aids. And “assault” crimes are crimes of violence.

    I’m part Irish and this would never happen if all people in Ireland thought as I think.

    This attitude of superiority which mozlums carry wherever they go, and the hate they feel, and of which they reek, has spread to the whole of earth where mozlums have been allowed, and even welcomed.

  5. Frankly, I’m so tired of the “luck of the Irish” stuff and such continued sentimental assessments of Ireland. The fact of the matter is that the Irish could have never done what the English did, i.e., build an empire and, at that, the most decent empire that ever existed.

    Yes, the English, who did so much good for humanity overall, (and are now losing their country by way of national suicide) have a great black mark upon themselves where the Irish are concerned. But then the ancient Athenians did great wrong at times too, for instance putting to death even women and children on the island of Melos for defying Athens.

    Ditto for Rome here, which constructed one of the greatest legal systems of all time and ran an empire, when, at its best, was done with tremendous efficiency, fairness and wisdom as Edward Gibbon and many other first-rate historians have chronicled.

    America too has done wrong at times, most certainly, but still established, a la Lincoln, the last best hope of mankind. And so on.

    And now back to Ireland. Well, presently it kind of sucks and has learned very little, rather like Poland, noble and tough nation that it is, wedged between two mountains of conceit, i.e., Germany and Russia, and yet Poland too has been brutal to others when given the chance (e.g., Ukrainians and Czechs—and as Ukrainians and Czechs have done in turn). And now Ireland, a place certainly which has suffered hardship by a superior power wants to denigrate Israel which itself is surrounded by entities, many quite powerful (or at least rich), that want the extermination of Israel. And the Jews of ancient times were not only wronged but wronged others, like the Canaanites, even Samarians (and why the Jesus story of the Good Samaritan exists in the NT), etc.

    Fact of the matter, almost every people have done wrong to other people, on all continents except Antarctica (and perhaps even here). Conclusion: Man never learns. Some learn more than others but man as a whole never learns. Some individuals learn quite well, certainly, but man as whole never does and keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over and over again. Time for a beer.

    • I agree with you. Out of all of the colonizing nations France, Belgium, Germany Portugal – I consider Great Britain to be the most beneficial. Yes, in the past, they had some black marks against them but, they belong in the past. I consider them to be historical grievances. Great Britain set up infrastructures whereby upon independence those countries could take governance. Here in Australia, Captain Arthur Phillips was our first governor. The colony faced drought & at times starvation but he persevered., at a cost of is health. He had 2 convicts hanged for murdering an aboriginal man. This was the beginning of my Australia. Regarding Ireland, I once subscribed to Irish news. I no longer do this because I continually received news of the anti semietism which is happening now. I’m shocked that a country that has suffered so much hatred is now attacking Israel.

        And yes, England with all its faults, rather like ancient Athens, ancient Rome and America from colonial times onwards (the British Empire too at its height), nonetheless still achieved more for good than bad, especially in the twin matters of freedom and fairness.

        Most civilizations and societies can’t even make this claim were truth and honesty required “factors” and the fact that Western Civilization pioneered freedom and fairness more than all others, and yet is easily the most excoriated of all other civilizations and societies, is indicative of a most disturbing phenomenon, i.e., that a combination of ignorance and subconscious jealousy are at work with avidity. Boy are they ever.

        What a silly age we live in whereby freedom-crushing ideologies like Islam and modern Leftism are exalted all the while the greatest civilization of all time, Western Civilization, is trashed again and again, even in Shakespeare’s “hometown.”

        • Regarding the Colonial justice system, I would make mention of William Wilberforce 1759 – 1833. A close friend & supporter was William Pitt the Younger. Through many years, he was prominent in the struggle to abolish the slave trade& then to abolish slavery in British overseas colonies. After many years, on February 23 1807 a bikk to abolish the slave trade was carried in the Commons. Finally, on July 26, 1833 the Slavery Abolition Act was passed by the Commons. Just think. 1833! The British where well ahead of the other colonial countries.

      • Thanks for the link, James. Liking Alfred Hitchcock’s films as I do, I am only too aware that Hitchcock felt a true darkness lurked in man. I just finished watching the other day Hitchcock’s “Shadow of a Doubt” and it conveys this concern of Hitchcock most effectively and disturbingly.

A simple, yet instructive book that ought to be heavily distributed in Ireland is Tomas Cahill’s ‘The Gifts if the Jews’ (Doubleday 1998). It followed his earlier non-fiction, ‘How the Irish Saved Civilization’.

  9. The Irish have been anti-Israel for as long as I remember. How did the woman know so much about himself and his itinerary? Did he blabber too much about who he is and what he was doing in Ireland to her? I have met many Israelis who are completely naive and oblivious of the hate that of some of the local people have towards them. One of my friends, who happens to be Jewish once traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand, and struck up a conversation with a Buddhist Thai receptionist. She usually doesn’t mention the fact that she is Jewish to strangers, but since the conversation between her and the receptionist was very friendly, she did. The conversation immediately soured after she disclosed that she was Jewish. The receptionist started to express her antisemitic views. Even though my friend was planning to stay at the hotel for longer, she immediately checked out the next morning and moved to another hotel. She was reminded once again to never let her guard down and never to reveal information about herself that is unnecessary for people to know.

He pointed out how the current government risked throwing all that away by asking the US to put pressure on Israel for a ceasefire, when there are no Irish hostages w/ Hamas, but there is right now one American hostage

    I’m a naturalized American, and I don’t pretend that the US should have any special relationship w/ my country of origin – India. I’d only like that if Indian policies coincide w/ US interests. I recognize that this country is essentially created by Europeans nearing now 250 years, and therefore don’t need it to pretend that all immigrant nationalities contributed equally to its cultural evolution

    That said, I have never understood why St Patrick’s Day is celebrated: I have never noticed any observance of St George’s Day (England), St Andrew’s Day (Scotland and Russia) or St David’s Day (Wales). On a different note, I’ve never understood why Columbus day is celebrated either, when he never set foot on US territory itself. POTUS is very respectful of US traditions, but I do think that some of them would be worth revisiting

    • Outstanding observation. You’re spot on! America has a strong Irish immigration background. The ones who came here were the smart ones, but they hold on to their traditions like any other ethnic group. Any excuse to drink and party. Arabic will be the EU official language someday, sooner in Ireland. They’re doing the same in America. Be prepared!
