A woman was racially insulted in the subway in Berlin-Mitte on Sunday afternoon.
The 33-year-old got on the U8 at the Heinrich-Heine-Straße subway station at around 5:25 p.m.
There, an unknown man insulted her in Arabic as a prostitute. The perpetrator asked her in broken German why she wasn’t wearing a headscarf – according to the police, he was referring to Ramadan.
But that wasn’t all: he threatened to seriously injure her if he saw her again!
The man then got off at the Jannowitzbrücke subway station. The State Protection Police of the State Criminal Police Office is now investigating the incident.

Will the police actually arrest him for his threats? Will the court prosecute him? No woman is safe as long as he walks free. He might mistake the next woman without a scarf, believing her to be the same one and attack her. Or he might not mistake, and just attack the next woman he sees.

I remember an occasion when I was travelling on the Underground in London, UK. I was conservatively dressed – long sleeves, calf-length skirt, but as an English woman, did not wear a head covering. I encountered two girls in hijabs who were wearing skin tight jeans – the sort of skin tight where you can track every twitch of the underlying rear. Presumably the perpetrator in the article here would think them more modestly dressed than I was, though, because their hair was covered.
