New in PJ Media:
On Friday, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, posted on X: “Ramadan starts tomorrow! Ramadan is the season of penance for our Islamic brothers and sisters. Do they ever take it seriously! I tell you that because Ash Wednesday is coming up – that’s kind of like our Ramadan.” These generous statements were entirely in keeping with the spirit of ecumenism that Pope Francis has advocated so assiduously, and so the cardinal’s words came as no surprise, but their graciousness was no guarantor of their accuracy. Unfortunately, virtually every part of Dolan’s statement was wrong, and some of it was dangerously misleading.
Ramadan is not, first off, exactly a “season of penance.” It does involve self-denial and cultivation of a sense of self-control, although the gorging all night somewhat mitigates the ascetic effect of the fasting all day, the focus is not primarily upon penance. Nobody “gives something up for Ramadan.” Ramadan superficially resembles Lent in that it is a season for Muslims to redouble their efforts to please Allah, but in Islam, this takes on a radically different form from efforts to please God in Christianity. (Note for those who need it: yes, “Allah” is the Arabic word for God — actually “the God,” and yes, Arabic-speaking Christians do use the word, although some, notably Copts, shy away from doing so because of its association with the God of the Qur’an. I am using it here to refer to that God.)
The highest form of service to Allah, according to Islam’s prophet Muhammad, is jihad, which principally involves warfare against unbelievers. A hadith has a Muslim asking Muhammad: “Instruct me as to such a deed as equals Jihad (in reward).” Muhammad replied, “I do not find such a deed” (Bukhari 4.52.44). So what better way to increase one’s devotion to Allah than by waging jihad? Every Ramadan, therefore, we see an increase in jihad attacks. This is hardly something that Cardinal Dolan should be celebrating, but of course, he is certain that Islam is a religion of peace and that anybody who tells him otherwise is just an “Islamophobe.”
Dolan also calls Muslims the “brothers and sisters” of Roman Catholics. In fact, that is not how Muslims regard Christians. Is Dolan aware of these Qur’an passages? (Spoiler: no, he isn’t.) The Qur’an calls “the people of the book,” which includes Christians, “the most vile of created beings” (98:6). It says that those who believe in the divinity of Christ are unbelievers (5:17, 5:72). It denies the crucifixion (4:157) and the Trinity (4:171), although it assumes that the Trinity includes Allah, Jesus and Mary (5:116).
There is more. Read the rest here.

Hey Cardinal dude,,,, go ahead and wrap a checkered towel around you head to while you are at it.
I see NO valid reason , Christian, secular or common sense, to wish to be like an enemy.

You said it, Ron.

I have never celebrated “Ash Wednesday.” As for “repentance,” Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray.
Part of the prayer Jesus said when asked how to pray, is “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
I do not find any instruction for a special day of “repentance” in that prayer; and neither in what the Apostle Peter instructed in what he said about “repent and turn around and have your sins forgiven.”
I can only imagine how Catholics must feel, those who have even a little bit of understanding about islime, having their special day proclaimed as ‘ramadan.’
In fact the fool said, “that’s kind of like our ramadan.” I never realized that Catholics had a “ramadan”
and if i gambled I’d bet that most Catholics didn’t know that either.
As for “brothers and sisters” among mozlums….dolan should know that they don’t even want him as a ‘friend.’
Faithful Christians among the Catholics should be aware that this creature is headed for a pit; the “pit” Jesus Christ said would be catching “the blind leading the blind.”

The liberal mindset today (which took years to form) seems to say that unless you welcome everybody everyday with open arms & open wallet, you are a hater.
Its OK to say no!

Cardinal Dolan-on what planet? Have you read their book?
Ridiculous

Uh, Ramadan is an entire month. How is one day its equivalent? And I’m not even going as far as the issue of “trans-fasting”, as David Wood once astutely observed

Does Cardinal Dolan intend for Saint Patrick’s Cathedral to become a Mosque?
Zeenah says
Perhaps Dolan has joined “Chrislam”

This site’s name is Jihad Watch, not My Version of Christianity is Better Than Yours.
While pointing out the Catholic hierarchy’s ignorance about Islam Is certainly appropriate and needed, “that bird thing” and the many other childish insults you’ve levied against them over the years are not.

I guess Cardinal Dolan has forgotten about Jesus’ claim to be the way, truth, and the life, and that no man goes to the Father save through him (Jn. 14:6).
I appreciate the Cardinal’s desire to be peaceful and neighborly (after all, the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:29-37 reminds us that our neighbor can be a “them” rather than an “us”). But Islam does not teach a brotherly and neighborly religion.
Then again, if the Cardinal was to honestly represent the truth claims of Jesus Christ, he would be utterly reprehensible to the glib and shallow people who present the news.

Islam is full of disgusting evil, murderous hatred for all non Muslims, pedophilia, vicious misogyny and it should be denounced by all decent people. This clergyman surely has to a complete idiot or so lazy that he knows absolutely nothing about islam.
somehistory says
Tim, he might be a “coward.” Or he might be one who looks for the “glory of men” rather than the “promised reward.”
Perhaps it’s all for the purpose of appearing pious, or even ‘godly.’.
Jesus said that people such as dolan are “having their reward in full.”
PRCS USN (ret) says
tim,
Ignorance about Islam is not exclusive to Catholicism’s hierarchy, as twenty years of Jihad Watch articles attest.
This being but one example:
Archbishops of Canterbury and Westminster, Chief Rabbi of Britain join Muslims for online Ramadan celebration
https://jihadwatch.org/2020/05/archbishops-of-canterbury-and-westminster-chief-rabbi-of-britain-join-muslims-for-online-ramadan-celebration
It’s a common malady.

Thanks for the comments, somehistory and prcs USN ret. I know that Christian are supposed to be kind and love their enemy but I do think these Christian leaders should courageously call out the evils of islam . Personally I put Islam on the same level as Nazism, both so full of hate. There is an inconsistency because these church leaders would condemn Nazism and yet they suck up to islam. Islam has done some kind of con job on so many people. It is a load of evil filth and yet so many seem to be fooled it. It must have something to do with saying it is religion. Satan’s own religion I believe it to be made up extremely evil people.
somehistory says
I believe you are right, Tim. The foolishness that people exhibit toward islime is not limited to one group, age of gender. They may recognize evil in other ideologies, but give islime a pass, and refuse to accept the evidence.
And I agree. islime is satan’s own.
Jesus said that He called his disciples ‘his friends’ because they obeyed His commands. And He reminded them that they were “all brothers.”
This is a world away from what some religious leaders are doing.
PRCS USN (ret) says
“these church leaders would condemn Nazism and yet they suck up to islam”
IMO, because Nazism is not a religion. But Islam is. An evil religion to be sure, but by definition, a religion nonetheless.
They don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.
Tim gallagher says
Yes it truly is a bizarre double standard. The religious nonsense has no effect on me but it seems to fool many people. Some versions of what god is are evil. I put Islam with the old aztec religion or the worshippers of baal. Evil religions for sure . It annoys me that so many idiots in our western societies give Islam a pass. I feel almost everyone should have woken up to Islam by now.
PRCS USN (ret) says
@tim,
“I feel almost everyone should have woken up to Islam by now.”
With you on that, mate!
With you on that.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Very true, PRCS. In fact, I wonder whether there are any sects of Christianity that openly denounce islam as evil. We have the Catholic and Anglican examples above, and we know that the Russian Orthodox have also made a tactical alliance w/ islam against LGBTQIA+
Does Judaism have a real hierarchy the way the Christian sects do? You mention a Chief Rabbi in Britain, but does anyone, such as a Chief Rabbi in Jerusalem, preside over all of Judaism? And if so, has any such person given a similar endorsement to islam?
PRCS USN (ret) says
Re wonder:
Likely not.
GE says
Pope Francis and Cardinal Dolan should be speaking out against the Muslim annihilation of Christians in Africa, instead of wishing them well for Ramadan!
somehistory says
those Christians in Africa, GE, will likely see a rise in murders by the mozlums ‘doubling down’
on their celebration of their evil belief system.
And these two will just as likely ignore the slaughter.

Dear Cardinal Dolan
allah is NOT the Biblical God
allah is likely the one mentioned in 2 Corinthians 4 ;4 as the” Evil god of this world”
allah is hu baal the kaaba cult god
So ash wednesday is nothing like ramadan
Not even remotely.
muslims don’ t follow the same God…..
PatriotLiz says
I blame our Founding Fathers for “freedom of religion” w/o qualifying what a “religion” is even when it’s a “religion” of evil and barbarism.
Our first war as a Nation was against Muslim Barbary pirates. I guess they must have thought Islam couldn’t cross the Atlantic very easily to be a problem for America. They should have known better since Islam had been at war with Europe for a long time even though it was referred to as a “religion” and not an imperialistic, warmongering ideology.

I wonder if Cardinal Dolan is in the on-deck circle for Pope after Francis croaks.
Gee, I hope not…
somehistory says
James, a few days ago, there was a list posted online of the men from whom one might be chosen to replace the pope when he croaks. And things are not looking too good for him, health-wise
The number was somewhere around twenty, if my recall is accurate.
The only one I can recall from the list is a man in Nigeria. He might be more concerned with Christians there than the current pope has been.
James Lincoln says
Time will tell, somehistory.
