Canada: Judge orders ‘deradicalization’ for two women returning from Syrian ISIS camp

In 2020, Jonathan Hall QC — Britain’s independent reviewer of terrorism legislation — admitted that “deradicalization” programs don’t work, and he had plenty of evidence to back him up. See HERE. Every rehab/deradicalization program functions on the premise that the individual is being rehabilitated from believing in something bad into accepting something good. Deradicalization programs are based on the assumption that jihadis are misunderstanding Islam. Jihadis believe that their atrocities against infidels are good works that please Allah. They are following religious instructions on how to expand Islam by the sword, and they are devout in their adherence to Islam. Islamic texts also permit the taking of infidel women as sex slaves, so in their view, those who counsel them to reject such teachings are not introducing them to authentic Islam, but to heresy. You cannot counsel the Sharia out of devout Muslims who are waging jihad and believe that martyrdom is the highest religious calling, as these beliefs are founded upon their obedience to their scriptures. This applies to women as well as men, as many ISIS brides are just as committed to jihad as their spouses ever were.

Consider also the recent news about a Palestinian Authority leader who declared for International Women’s Day that a woman gains “high status in society when her son dies as a martyr.” He was correct as per Islamic religious instruction:

“Let those who sell the life of this world for the next fight in the way of Allah. Whoever fights in the way of Allah, whether he is killed or victorious, on him we will bestow a great reward.” (Quran 4:74)

“Indeed, Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth, because the garden will be theirs, they will fight in the way of Allah and will kill and be killed.” (Quran 9:111)

The words of Muhammad: “I would love to be martyred in Allah’s Cause and then get resurrected and then get martyred, and then get resurrected again and then get martyred and then get resurrected again and then get martyred.” This is why modern-day Jihadists often say that they love death. (Sahih Bukhari 52:54)

“Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His Cause into Paradise if he is killed, otherwise He will return him to his home safely with rewards and war booty.” (Sahih Bukhari 52:46)

During the battle of Uhud, Muhammad was desperate to push men into battle. He promised paradise for those who would martyr themselves, prompting a young man who was eating dates to throw them away and rush to his death. (Sahih Muslim 20:4678)

A man asks Muhammad “which of men is the best?” Muhammad replies that it is the man who is always ready for battle and flies into it “seeking death at places where it can be expected.” (Sahih Muslim 20:4655)

In the same manner, ISIS jihadis and their jihadi brides who partake in the abuse of disbelievers are justified as good by their religious texts. They are a grave danger to Westerners, and foolish judges who believe that Western deradicalization programs will work, are subjecting innocents to danger. Iraqi judge Abdul Sattar Beragdar once said that “due to the indescribable barbarity of the abuses committed by Islamic State jihadis,” he was “sentencing jihadis from the UK to death by hanging — in order to protect Britain.” This attests to the danger that politicians are putting the public in by repatriating ISIS jihadis and their brides.

In 2017, Canada’s Security Intelligence Service acknowledged that dozens of ISIS jihadis were walking free, yet authorities wouldn’t charge them. That’s because it’s difficult to process and prosecute crimes against humanity that happened in ISIS territory, because gathering necessary evidence is nearly impossible. Yet the terrorist threat in Canada “has rarely been higher,” according to a report released on in January after the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans.

An Alberta judge has ordered two Edmonton women, Helena Carson, 35, and Dina Kalouti, 43, to undergo six months of deradicalization counselling after their return to Canada from the collapsing Islamic State caliphate in Syria.

The ruling by Justice Suzanne Polkosnik follows an RCMP application for a terrorism peace bond aimed at addressing potential security risks posed by the pair, who lived in ISIS-controlled territory from 2015 to 2019.

Carson and Kalouti’s misadventure began about 10 years ago when they left Edmonton for Syria, allegedly drawn by the extremist ideology of the Islamic State at the height of its power. They remained in the region until the terror group’s territorial defeat in 2019, when they were captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces amid the chaos of the caliphate’s final days.

Detained in a camp for ISIS associates, the women spent years in limbo before their repatriation to Canada in July 2023, a move facilitated by diplomatic efforts and humanitarian considerations. Upon their return, the RCMP launched an investigation to assess their activities abroad and any ongoing threat they might pose.

While neither woman has been charged with a specific criminal offence related to their time with ISIS, the peace bond reflects a preventive approach under Canada’s anti-terrorism laws.

The court heard that both admitted to residing in ISIS territory, though details of their roles remain undisclosed to the public. The RCMP argued that counselling was necessary to ensure their reintegration into society does not compromise public safety….
